For the good ending , players have to fight Erlang Shen and the Four Giant King Kongs. Erlang Shen reveals the truth about Sun Wukong’s death: Sun Wukong intentionally allowed himself to be killed, abandoning his physical body and placing all bets on the sixth relic,which is the mind , the character played by the player.This was the only way he discovered to break free from the golden hoop and escape his fate. He entrusted the final trial to Erlang Shen to test the sixth relic and Sealed the memories within Erlang Shen’s third eye.

@@averagejoe4688 Erlang Shen has no choice in the matter because he is the god in charge of enforcing the laws of the Heavenly Court. All the deities in the Heavenly Court are bound by the ‘Investiture of the Gods’ (AKA ‘Fenshen Bang’) and must perform their designated duties. If he could, he would much rather drink and discuss Tao with Sun Wukong.
@@averagejoe4688 they were like brothers all the way along, since the first fight. He helped Wukong many times in Journey to the West, which was a tale before this game's events.

The fight between 4 heaven kings and Destined one is just a hidden boss fight, not really an ending to this game. I think you will get this ending even if you choose to fight erlang and the 4.
The real meaning behind the ending here is (IMO), after achieving buddhahood the previous Sun Wukong yearned again for the freedoom of the mortal realms, which (in the buddhist scripture that Ive ever known of) is impossible unless you are willing to give up your immortality and buddhahood
=> which means you actually live like a mortal with repeative circle of rebirth.
However, as the old monkey told us the universe always bear him a successors should he choose to be with his kins in the mortal realm (by the ways, it is neither right nor wrong, it sometimes just your choice. If you can bear the suffering of the mortal realm, you can choose to be a mortal once again). Therefore, the Destined One (player) are prompted to go through what Sun Wukong have gone through in order to gain enough strength and wisdom to be enlighted, similar to the Journey to the West which had made an once arrogant monkey to be enlighted.
Once, the broken shell (ending fight) is defeated the Destined One will attain to Buddhahood by accepting jingu (Heaven Mandate), and the Sun Wukong will be reborn as 6 of his senses are recovered so he can live with his kins once again.
In short, the destined one will replace Sun Wukong's buddhahood and position in Heaven, while Sun Wukong gets to live with his kins after rebirth like a normal Monekey. Win win outcome!
After Sun Wukong achieve buddhahood, he realizes living beyond formless realm and beyond all sense realms and having connection too all matters in all realms within his own being, he realizes peace however, the monkey king's nature is to have fun and he can't experience that fun as a Buddha. To give up desires to reach enlightment is to be free of all desires. The Monkey enjoys having desires and experience all sorts of pleasure and pain so he didn't want to remain a Buddha anymore, so he had to give up his Buddhahood and to return to the realm of senses with its many pleasures and sufferings, he sees it as the best state for his nature thus Sun Wukong chose to not live as a Buddha but live as a Taoist. So that is why his clothes change in the ending of the game to represent his transformation into a Taoist to continue the cycle of life. This time he sees things differently, like the Chinese Ancient Painting depicting Buddha Laotze and Confucious tasting the vinegar from the pot, each person gave a different explanation of the taste. Buddha taste bitterness, so life to him is suffering and enlightenment is the way out. Confucious taste sourness, so life needs improvements and discipline of self, but Lao Tze taste the vinegar of life and says it taste sweet. Thus nothing needs to be done, everything is perfect. Sun Wukong sees that life is already perfect with it's up and downs, tragedies and victories, so he accepts this is his path and he gives up his Buddhahood and returns to being the Monkey King again.

Like I said, it's all about your choice.
Buddhism was right about unavoidable suffering of rebirth cycle (Death, Deceive, Sickness, and Hunger). Therefore, if you live true and good to yourself and others enough you will get ascended to Heaven (similar to every religious teaching out there). Thus, avoiding these suffering entirely and live in a realm of internal happiness, but the catch is you have to sever all forms of mortal desires (relationship, Greed, Lust).
If you think these desire worth facing the unending circle of rebirth with its suffering, then go ahead and descended.
=> The truth is Destined One made his choice by accepting the Jingu and become the Glorious Victorious Buddha, While Sun Wukong also made his by abandoning immortal life and buddhahood.

There are a lot of hidden cgs during this fight. He may steal your potion, taste it and then give it back to you, eat a peach if you stopped fighting, or enlarge his stuff and smash you😂😂😂

Just played the next ending fighting the heavenly kings and erlang. That's a WAYYYYYY Hyper ending NGL. I was so hyped the whole thing! Screaming and losing my mind during the whole thing! That's how I remember the old God of Wars being. Just MASSIVE bonkers boss fights lol.

Anyone struggling with this fight, all you have to do is max out the pilgrims armour set and unlock the spellbinding spell. upgrade your mana as much as you can then activate spellbinding. Then just stay well back from Wukong mostly hugging the game wall. Just keep charging smash full and hit him. Do that over and over and you never have to interact with 90% of his abilities.
He literally throws his staff canceling the charging smash lol this doesn't work in second phase

I've been researching. this seems to be considered the... "bad ending." I don't see it that way. I find it beautiful tbh. Lifes natural cycle happening to pass on to a worthy successor despite losing the true mind and soul of original wukong. Shows no one lives forever, but it doesn't mean we can't continue the legacy of those before us. This game hit me hard in so many ways.

Im at this the very last part of the fight and im having the hardest time getting this fuckers health below half way.
I dont like how Wukong broken shell nerf us and we stay that even when we beat him. What i mean? Just remember the cool moveset in the beginning when we use Wukong. In the game you need to go for the relics, armor and weapon. Our moveset changes, even our concentration indicator changes too having the 4 points. But Wukong broken shell says "fuck you" and he nerf us. That was bullshit.

this boss sucked for me. essentially 4 phases with a bridge in between if you die after breaking its shell. Still though. The great sage is programmed to counter everything you throw at it, making it tedious, not fun. you rush in with light attacks or staff spin? nah, it just cloud steps back. want to perform a light attack finisher? nope, it just steps back and kicks you in the face, stopping your combo. you want to bring down a 4 focus point heavy attack? you can try, but it'll cancel its attack animation to dodge the wind up and finisher. drinking the gourd? nah, it freezes you just to swig your gourd and throw it back. you want a turn at all to fight? nah, it's never really your turn, it just busts out never end combos making it a battle of attrition. not fun
I knew it would be tedious fight, the moment i learned it has 4 phases, yesterday i came to him, fought first 2 phases which didnt seem hard, but i then went sleep and i dont intend to end game, because ive seen on other bosses what up with this game and what to expect. Like you said, tedious boss fight which wears player down, because its simply too long and forces player to master, not learn, all moves beyond normal game extend because developers were trying to tryhard, and get Sekiro recognition, and sadly they managed to get good reviews and 10 million copies. Bosses are tedious damage sponges, you fight them with melle character trying to avoid area slams and their premium skills made to counter yours. Player is often threated as cockroach in boss fights, rather than some good warrior. You dont learn almost anything after you beat many bosses, because every boss has his own attack pattern and combos, so its like going from scratch for every new boss

LOL no. Your goal is to unite the 6 essense of wukong, to become the real wukong. Basically by defeating the stone wukong, you get to absorb all the essense of wukong into you and basically you awaken the real wukon into your body. So now the real wukong is back and that is you.
