Not true, i shined a uv flashlight through reading glasses (both prescription and drugstore brands) on to a $50 bill's UV strip and they both failed bad, they don't block UV at all, my sunglasses passed 100%. I suspect the FDA is allowing companies to say 'blocks uv 99.9%' because they block only part of the UV spectrum. They don't block 380nm to 400nm wavelength.
@darkpal123 Yeah I understand that mate but since my sunglasses aren't very dark at all, do you think that 50% would be sufficient? I definitely don't think that my pupil becomes 50% wider when I have them on, so would that mean that 50% absorption would be letting in less UV rays anyway than if I didn't have any sunglasses on at all?
My safety glasses seem to block about 40% only. I wonder if the US$ 10 to 12 dollar sunglasses (Iron Man/Tony Stark steampunk design for example) on AliExpress or Amazon will block 100% UV (UV400 spec)? Thank you. God bless, Revelation 21:4
yes they may have 100% UV protection BUT the quality of sight and clarity is really the differentiating factor between $15 or $20 sunglasses and $150 - $200 sunglasses.
@@deltadelta9042 do optical stores have that photometer ? And do they mind if you bring them a pair from let’s say H&M to check ? Anyway have you checked cheap ones from your optometrist? I’m curious about Mango or H&M. I already have my Ray Bans which I love and I got them at sunglasshut but I want a cheap pair too, so I can swear the cheap ones at places where I’m scared to bring my Ray Bans. So please if you know any cheap brands you hasted and worked get them here.
This is very helpful, was wondering how to find out whether my sunglass was actually worth the price.
Its because polycarbonate (plastic they use to make most of lenses) is already a UV filter in itself.

Geez, would it have hurt them to state where the failing sunglasses were purchased?

most sunglasses in the states will give you good uv protection, what they don't tell you is distortion of the lens....
"most" isn't enough.
Great video. Get yours tested and FYI - don't stare directly at the sun like at 2:50. :) She did a great job - I'm just kidding.
My jaws dropped cause i love my expensive sunglasses. Lol.

the difference is that expencive glasses are all owned from the same company
Cyrus Takem But they don't use the same quality
Is there a way to test it like at home?
Yes, use a black light. I made a video about it. "Test your sunglasses for UV protection, The Truth, using a blacklight" it is on my channel
joesr31 No uv light doesn't work
How can I find the easy way test my sun glasses ? I don't wannabuy $400 photometer machine for $5 sun glasses
Ma Sa Take them to an optometrist they'll check them for free in 2 seconds
get a cheap UV LED flashlight and shine it on a $50 bill's UV strip....lookup youtube 'uv glasses test'.

Does anyone have a link to all the sunglasses she tested?
@darkpal123 Could, or will inevitably?
Aahhh, I just got my sunglasses tested and it says they have 50% UV protection... Is that okay?...
*No.*
Wow Nice
I found a pair with special protection at failing store for 80 cents.
"100% UV protection"
