    I got a pair of Blue Light blocking glasses made from an Optician. When I got home the first thing i wanted to do was this test with my cheap UV light. The lens seemed to not block any of the UV light! Objects would still glow with the UV light going through the lens. I was upset because I thought for sure these glasses don't have UV protection. I took the glasses back and the Optician sent them out to two labs and both tests resulted in the lens having UV protection. The Optician even let me test them in her office with a UV Photometer and lo and behold they were blocking 98% UV!
    So weeks later I was still skeptical about my new Blue Light blocking glasses so I went to another Optical store and their machine also said they block 98% UV.
    So after my experience with my new Blue Light blocking glasses, I don't think the UV light test on lens is as accurate as we make it out to be.

    Another quick test is to take a UV led flashlight and shine it through the lens onto a standard credit card in a dark room. If you can see the security protection features fluoresce, the lens is not blocking UV.

      How would you be able to see it anyway if its UV? Humans cant see UV.

    • @2bnor2b20
      @2bnor2b20 2 года назад +4

      @@tomd72 A blacklight is basically UVA. Much like the card demonstrated; credit cards, passports and driver's license have UV printing embedded on the laminates. This will glow and show a special symbol or picture to making it difficult to counterfeit. You are not seeing UV you are seeing the inks reaction to UV.

    • @tomd72
      @tomd72 2 года назад

      @@2bnor2b20 My bad just figured that out. Is it definetly only UV that causes the flouresensce to react though or could it also be near UV? Just thinking some cheap UV lights might only be 5% UV 95% near UV or something. Also even if the torch is a substantial amount of UV the test won't tell you the wavelength range of UV that the sunglasses block? So the protection could roll off halfway down the UV spectrum and you'd have no way of knowing unless you knew the UV range of the light?

    People should also be aware that the darker the tint that allows UV light in, the worse, because your pupils dilate more with darker lenses and thus let even more UV light in.

      It will help, but more than likely your pets cataracts are due to genetics. I had a friend of mine years ago take her dog in to correct the cataracts. Not cheap, but if your dog isn't too old and you want to have clear vision again, it's an option

      @@electronicsNmorethank-you for the reply! I give her bilberry, spinach and carrots.. but she is 11 now. Even at 7 years-old the vet told me that surgery may not fix the issue. At least with sunglasses, it may slow the cataracts, and make her more comfortable as apparently sunlight is harsher on eyes with cataracts.

    Dont tell project farm I see your videos first. LOL
    thats expensive for a UV detecting card but better than nothing I guess. I notice online just now it has a scale of intensity.
