Fun video, thanks! The Firewalker dlc came before Overlord and introduces the Hammerhead and explains how to 'mine' the resources. Basically hover over them and use the 'mine' key while jiggling the movement controls to stay in position until the mining is complete. The Hammerhead may be very mobile but its armour is cardboard so if you see it start to smoke retreat and recover!
Great episode. As others have pointed out this was originally a DLC. You were supposed to do the Project Firewalker missions first, which would have introduced you to the M44 Hammerhead. The M44 is very lightly armoured, relies heavily keeping mobile. The M44 does not drop mines! Those objects you saw are things you use the 'mine' button to pick up. You hold 'mine' down whilst keeping the M44 over the object. There are plenty of little sidequests out there, you will find them as you go planet scanning. Some are vey short and sweet others can be a pain, if you not ready. You learned that with the triple mechs. And you will be planet scanning! This is you primary source of the minerals for upgrades! An interesting point is that you went from being a soldier in ME1 and switched to Biotic in ME2 which is a big adjustment to make. So a few unfortunate deaths are expected as the combat ramps up.
Im not sure if its "you were supposed to so FW first" as much as it is Project FW was released first 🤔 and the Hammerhead was implemas part of the Overlord DLC
Not only was I not aware I'm doing DLC content, I'm doing them out of order 😅 Will keep scanning the planets and looking for exciting missions, thanks!
1:43:57 - Yeah, when you are on top of these things, you can press right mouse to mine this. Unfortunately the grame screwed up by the introduction of the Hammerhead.
You’ve stumbled across one of the many DLC missions in ME2, definitely a great one. Side note: when you say you have two objectives on the compass I think you’re confusing the smaller arrow which is just pointing north, the bigger arrow is your objective.
Not my brightest moment, not gonna lie. But I am relieved as I was noticing it ever since we were doing the quarantine zone on Omega; I was afraid I was missing out on content 😅
1:32:20 - yeah the game has decided to make shields, armour being worth something - only damage powers can impact these - Overload on shields, Warp on Armor and etc. Whereas non damage powers like Pull, Throw, Singularity work only on health but are potentially high rewarding because if successful, paralysed enemies on the floor or mid air, are easy to hit and to finish off.
Now I see why multiple squadmates have the Overload ability; it's so important to get the fight going against these strong enemies, and as my Shepard does not have an ability damaging shields, I have to rely on the squad heavily!
ME2 really rewards more active control of your companions. Grunt needs to be ordered to push forward so he will draw aggro and get into close range for his shotgun. Kasumi should be ordered to use her Overlord on Geth to strip their shields . . . and once shields are down your biotic abilities will work. Adept Shepard is weak against Shielded enemies. And really important to switch between your machine pistol (shield stripping) and heavy pistol (armor breaking) as necessary.
That Heavy Mech and crates side quest encounter is notorious for being difficult! Especially for how low level players generally encounter it. You really need to maximize the shield/armor stripping abilities and weapons. And Heavy Weapons can make a huge difference. It is possible to kill all the Mechs and save all 20 boxes. You just get a tiny bit more money reward for each box. There are assorted side missions scattered around for you to find. The system Relic you explored just didn't have any. They are fun . . . you never know quite what you will find.
I usually cheese it by bringing the Missile Launcher: since it's auto-homing, you can hit the mechs from the LZ, before you cross the invisible line that triggers their crate-destruction behavior. Just pull aggro for one Ymir at a time, use the shuttle as cover, kite and spank, then repeat until you have all three down. Hard as f**k to save all 20 crates if you play it as intended, but laughably easy if you use the ML cheese technique.
A lot of players were frustrated with how janky the Mako was (it was weaker in the original game, and got upgraded for Legendary Edition). So Bioware decided to troll everyone and gave us a worse vehicle the Hammerhead for ME2 🤣
OH 😂 well now you've done it! Just stumbled upon one of the most harrowing, highly impactful and morally challenging DLC in All of Mass Effect, will literally make you question things. To the exploration aspect of ME2, if you're looking for Mako style planetary landing opportunities, you wont find them. ME2/3 moved so far away from that type of gameplay, there are missions around, dozens of them, some of them are chain quests that will take an entire episode, you have to scan for most of them, if there is a mission available you will generally be given Audio to scan for. This is why mining planets is a good idea, it should be noted and I only say this for you to judge the type of content, these scanning mission very rarely have consequences that effect the whole ME2 game or carry over to ME3, they are singularly a ME2 experience and offer rewards for ME2 only. Scanning isn't just for resources it can lead to some really funky adventures. Much improved use of Shockwave in this one. Consequently your Singularity game needs to improve, it does nothing to shielded enemies and is ineffective as a first strike weapon.
Noted, had no idea scanning could be so impactful, will scan every single planet my way 😋 Also sad there are no more Mako sections; they were not perfect, but I don't like seeing 'the strongest vehicle in the universe' gone!
So yes, as many people have said, Overlord is a DLC that pretty much locks you in for quite a while. The DLCs in ME2 are actually MORE involved than any of the main missions. Most side missions in ME2 are very much like the mission at the start of this episode retrieving the crates, with a short objective and possibly very combat heavy on a unique map. Just like in ME1, there is exactly ONE place to land/perform a mission in every star system (as opposed to a star cluster), but in ME2 many of these locations will never be pointed out to you in any way other than exploring planets and stumbling across them. Some are puzzle based rather than combat based, and most are one offs, but there are a few that lead into mini-stories. Lastly, I have a question for you that may feel intrusive. I have an amateur interest in linguistics, and I've noticed a habit of yours of repeating phrases particularly when you seem to be excited even though it isn't usually accompanied by an increase in volume on your part. I've been wondering if this is a regular construction in your native language or if it is merely a bit of a personal vocal tic. This is not any sort of criticism, but my slightly autistic mind has become hyperfocused on it, and learning the answer might do wonders for my increased enjoyment.
Not intrusive at all, but I might not be sure what you are talking about haha. Like me receiving some info and following it up with 'let's go, let's go'? Or in similar situation, saying 'interesting... interesting...'? If that's what you are referring to, it might be just my English language antics, and not something related to my mother tongue 😄

It truly is cardboard, that thing would not stand one hit from the thresher maw...

can't wait for the next one 🤩
Thanks for the support 🥰

Thankfully, I managed to figure it out, but we almost managed to miss some content 😅
You’ve stumbled across one of the many DLC missions in ME2, definitely a great one. Side note: when you say you have two objectives on the compass I think you’re confusing the smaller arrow which is just pointing north, the bigger arrow is your objective.

Fun fact - Project Overlord is DLC
It is! Completion of the first assignment is hard imo
Had no idea it, I picked at random from the assignments, great fun nonetheless! 😁

Yea, I'm starting to realise that I have to think about squad positioning, especially since taking cover is such a big deal in ME2!

At least I feel a little bit vindicated knowing this section is considered hard 😭
1:53:39 - Actually there were Geth Primes in the first game. However you only encounter 2 I believe. One on Virmire and one of Ilos.
I could be mistaken with the figure, but yeah the point is stil there.
Oh, had no idea they were there in the first game, but at the same time we were absolutely mowing the geth down in that one haha
There are sidemissionyou can find through scanning.
From now on, I'm closely examining every planet, thanks!
A lot of players were frustrated with how janky the Mako was (it was weaker in the original game, and got upgraded for Legendary Edition).

Hey, I like it 😂 It blows up in few hits, but it handles beautifully and is so agile!
