It's hard to explain to young people now exactly how famous River was, his death was shattering at the time. I still feel emotional watching him on screen.
What someone who wasn't conscious before the internet doesn't understand is that there was no way of finding out about celebrities but to rely on entertainment news on TV and the radio, or in magazines and newspapers, or from friends and fan clubs. That sense of optimism that going to the newsagents every week created, looking to see if there was anything on River. We've lost that in our times. Sometimes it was months with no news at all. Even today when I see his name, a current of positivity affects me. He meant the world.
He was the most beautiful and talented among his siblings and perhaps also the most fragile. 30 years later the pain of his loss deepens because thanks to the Internet I am learning to know him, not only as an actor but above all as a human being through the interviews done with him and with those who had the pleasure of knowing him. Besides, it was nice to hear his wonderful voice, unknown to me until recently, because, being an Italian girl I have always heard him dubbed in my language. River, I saw you for the first time in "Little Nikita" and since then you entered me and never came out. So many things I would like to say, so many reflections I could make but what remains inside is only a great void and the sense of an interrupted life that could have brought you joys and satisfactions and us with you, if only you had taken better care of yourself and if you had had people around you capable of helping you. River, despite your death you are eternal to me, even a thousand years or more can pass, because even if your life was short, your memory will always remain because you were a special person. May you rest in peace. 🌈 ❤
He was great, but Joaquin is obviously the better actor, but that could just be because he had the chance to do so many more movies. Most people say Joaquin was more talented as an actor, but maybe River would have gotten close to that level or even better, but it would have been really hard, as talent alone isn't always enough as it is. He may not have had the talent of say Joaquin, but he was very good looking. Very sad what happened to him, we will never know how good he could have been unfortunately. I have no doubt he would have done very very well though. RIP River Phoenix.
His absence left a void that was eventually filled by Leo...who wouldn't have had anything near his current career if he had to compete with River for roles.
Im so sick of this stupid statement. Leo would have been fine if River had lived, things might have been a bit different like maybe they would have worked together, and maybe there would have been a rivalry, but to say Leonardo owes his success to Rivers death is disgusting, Leonardo deserves his success with or without River
@@RonFulkerson-ji7db One thing is for sure if River was still with us you would have seen him as Jack in Titanic not Leo. Titanic was the turning point for Leo so yeah things would've been different.
I watched Stand By Me and he caught my attention the most. He is one beautiful young man, and somehow got that flamboyant vibe about him that’s interesting to watch. It’s too bad he’s gone so soon.
I genuinely think he is the only man I’ve been in love with. I’m 6 months younger than him & fell in love the moment I saw him. I think it was Stand by Me but I am still in love now. Still angry with him as well !
Today 30 years sense River was given a fatal drink at The Viper room. Many people should be in prison for the murder of river. His Beauty will be remembered for eternity.❤
Drug dealers get away with that stuff all the time. It was fatal to River specifically, but I wouldn't call it a hot shot. It wasn't meant to kill him in my opinion. That said, it did and the guy should have been charged, but even when famous people die from drugs the dealers sometimes get away with it, which is very unfortunate.
I miss him. He was a real deal. Absolutely delighted when the Phoenix's eventually broke their public silence in 2019 - never saw it coming after all those years.

he was sooo beautiful inside as well as outside, so deep... yeah, as somebody said: too good for this world...

Yeah, the talent of Joaquin with amazing looks. Yeah, Leo would not have been able to keep up.
