I'm so full of joy Riv is being celebrated by his family more publicly. He himself said he never wants to be forgotten. And for me, it feels like he is STILL HERE! 🌻
I can see so much of Joaquin in River in the first clip. River would be so proud of his little brother. Wil Wheaton saying that River’s death wasn’t shocking but he hoped it wasn’t true is so heartbreaking.
@@pyt7778 You can shut up now. Stop acting like your the one who lost a beloved family member to some tragic event. People have convulsions when they overdose. That's what he said. “Ok, I’m calm, but he’s having convulsions, please come in. You have to come, I think he took Valium or something else. that he is dying. ” I've heard the audio. He was panicking and likely in tears, not thinking clearly. He didn't know what was in his system. He was a kid whose brother was dying in front of him and he was breaking down. If that drug was as harmless as you say and wouldn't hurt someone not overdosing why not give it to him anyway? That's on the adult paramedics not a scared kid. I'm sure he's replayed that night many times in his mind over the years. And imagine you can't turn on the tv without hearing about it for a long time afterwards. You can't mourn in peace because the media are vultures. Just stop already. What you are doing is just as despicable as the paparazzi.
Oh my god that's amazing congratulations!!! I live in Israel and English names are not popular here (like I care) but if and when I'll move to Boston and have kids I'll name the first boy that comes out River as well. I have a River, oh, River tattoo for him so, it's a perfect piece of the puzzle.
He was incredibly talented, and also, just completely beautiful. I don't usually use the word "beautiful" when describing men (I usually use "handsome"), but River was beautiful.
imagine if river was still alive I'll bet we can always see him with keanu hanging out in the streets, pulling pranks everywhere and riding a subway to work as well as spreading goodness around the world dang
I don't think disbelief is the right word. Not wanting something to be true is not the same as not believing that it is. I felt like he was trying to say that it was a fear because he felt 100% like it was very likely quite true. Idk what the word is I'm looking for either.
I disagree. That word aligns perfectly with "shocked", which he said he was not. Heartbroken and utterly disapointed are probably closer. Afraid of the reality of it all is probably in alignment as well.
so interesting how he was so young but already was considered by others in the industry to be one of the greats... i read a different snippet from ethan hawke where he really talked about how river impacted his life as an actor bc he felt like he was always striving to be as good as river
@@RePete690 it’s honestly disrespectful af, weird af, creepy af, and delusional af that you’re commenting on this trying to pretend that you’re River Phoenix…. He was a great actor though and did some great work before he died . I was a fan and can say that he was genuine and I wanted to always meet him . He was a kind soul and remember reading his articles in magazines like “ teen beat” back in the day and thinking how genuine and kind he seemed when there was so many actors that sounded fake and entitled . River was supposed to play Christian Slaters role in “ Interview with a vampire” but since he had passed away CS got the role instead . Some ppl can see he was bound for great things and there’s some ppl who speculate bc of how young he was when he died , but for the ppl who saw him preform and admired his work and kind gestures they know he was a legend whose flame died too young 🙏🙏🙏 rip to river and his family and I think it’s beautiful that Joaquin and his wife named their son , River 💜 beautiful tribute to his brother and the legacy he left behind … I think Joaquin takes his brothers talents anytime he’s doing a movie
I was so broken hearted when I heard about River, and it still makes me sad to this day. He was so special, an immensely talented and special actor. 💗💗💗
I read it in the newspapers. I cried in the supermarket while reading it. I thought my youth is over now. And it was true. I was 20 and sure that my whole generation will not get old.
It just feels so weird how I can miss someone so much when I wasn’t even alive when he died but i’m just so heartbroken that he died and I miss him so much ♥️
River would've won it if he was still alive. I truly believe, River's essence rubbed off on Keanu. That's why they were such great friends because both were/are such genuine, kind souls.
I was 12 maybe 13 when he died. This kid who grew up in Foster care who just identified on some level with him. I remember hearing on the radio of his passing and being utterly distraught. Had this big memorial wall dedicated to him in my room, it's weird that someone I'd never met left such an impression on my life. I'm quite sure I'm not the only one.
I’m an older brother. My younger brother and I have always been super close. I think we both realize we’re lucky for that too. He’s a traveling (nationally touring) musician, whereas I just grew up playing the drums. Never any competition. Just real genuine support. I think that’s what being an older brother is all about. It’s cool to think about how proud River would be of his brother. I feel bad for Joaquin that he’s never really been able to see his brother light up at his success. I hope there’s a place where they can meet up in the end. Long lost brothers. Old friends.
I know for logical reasons nowdays everybody thinks of Joaquin when River is brought up and viceversa but i always think more of Rain. She was the closest to him, they shared a band and their love for music and she witnessed a lot of things River experiencied cause they were very close in age.And she was also there when River died... of course its pretty obvious that Joaquin suffered a great deal but i think people has no idea how painful it must have been for Rain.
Agreed 💔 Her latest album is dedicated to River and is literally about him, so I think she found a way to express at least some part of her grief through music ❤🙏🏻
@@joana9039 well to be fair i think she had wanted to honor River for a long time and held back cause of Joaquin. She even said she asked for his permission to do this (which i dont think is fair at all). I think in a way Joaquin has a weird place in the family. You can tell in that 60 minutes interview, he was interrupting his mom and Rain only talked when he mentioned her album. Family own literally everything to River. Im not saying they should share awful details about his life they dont even embrace his work publicly and i think is in a huge part due to Joaquin.
@@Jts-fg7jr Well, I don't know them personally, but I wouldn't say that Joaquin was the main person to make this process longer. I honestly didn't even think that he was interrupting them in that interview too 🤔 I think I remeber how Summer, Rain and Joaquin all spoke during the Launchleft podcast (you must have seen that) how Rain sat all the family members down and asked for their permission to release such an album (unless I forgot something). So, I believe that all of the Phoenix family members even though are experiencing grief differently, still have an equal right to express their opinions in a democratic way 😊
Oh? So they are both singers? And Joaquin Phoenix is not? I mean river and rain looks like a twin but I don't know he was a main character in the JOKER, where can I know about Rain Phoenix more??!?!???????
I was a production assistant in MY OWN PRIVATE IDAHO. Keanu and River are both amazing actors and very nice human beings. River 's death in 1993 and just a few years later another actor from MOPI Rodney Michael Harvery also died of an overdose in 1998. Such a shame to loose two amazing talents, so young. RIP to them both.
River Phoenix and Brandon Lee...two amazing actors who were taken far far too soon. Both are highly respected in the acting business. I'll always miss them, but their movies and family carry their names and memories.
@Lisa Surlie It's called accountability. Your life won't change for the better until you start taking some. You should seek help to deal with these feelings of yours. I was sad when Heath Ledger died, but it didn't drive me to drugs or anything.
It's so heartbreaking but incredible how unbelievably grateful people are to have even known him. To quote Romeo and Juliet, "can heaven be so envious?"
It's just heartbreaking to see just how different Joaquin was before that day. He's so calm and communicative and allot of it is thanks to his brother. You could see how whole he was when they were together and to see the emptiness and sadness in his eyes from that moment on hit me really hard now. It's terrifying, and fascinating, to see what trauma does to people because it never repeats itself. Thank you for sharing, I wasn't prepared to see him and it was a very powerful surprise. You gave me something to think about.
Its amazing to see how many people River truly had an impact on.I myself have loved him and his work from the first time i laid eyes on him! He was such a beautiful soul inside and out.No matter how many years pass i still feel the pain of his death as if it happened yesterday. R.I.P. River, you will be forever loved! ❤❤
Johnny depp saying that they wouldn’t let phoenix rest or the family is so meaningful. This is a 23 year old that should have a resting place for those who loved him. I wasn’t alive when River died but the coverage seems horrific. At least what’s stuck around and I just couldn’t imagine and never want to know what the family or friends felt. That is a nightmare

Flea has the most emotional words for him. He was really a friend. ❤️
River Phoenix was a wonderful actor. He could also do comedy so well. There is a movie that he is in I think it's called I love you so much I could kill you with Kevin Kline, Tracy Ullman, William Hurt and Keanu Reeves. River Phoenix had me and stitches he has this one line he says I "have to collect myself" Also, "Stand by Me"was a wonderful movie he's so good in it. I miss him very much, Debra Bader ❣️
I don't usually follow celebrities' personal lives. Too often, they turn out to be disappointing enough in character that it can kind of ruin my appreciation of their talents. River was one of those people whose movies I generally liked, but whom I valued as a compassionate & tender human being even more. If he'd never made another movie, I'd still have cared...imagining him as a bright light flickering in the distance & being content that he existed. He was 2 years younger than me & I remember the disbelief when I heard the news. It still doesn't seem real sometimes. The "if only..." is haunting.
If only John Frusciante hadn’t given him a lethal drink... if only River had stayed and rested at the hotel & not chased after his siblings as they were leaving, saying he’d changed his mind, if only Joaquin hadn’t lied to the paramedic and said the reason River was having a seizure was because he was diabetic 😞, this cost precious time in them giving a possible lifesaving drug, Narcan, River was never a diabetic
Anthony Hutchins Please show me where I said River was any less of a person? I have nothing but respect for that young man & how much he had to cope with. Fact is, John Frusciante gave River a deadly mix of drugs, in a cup, with enough drugs to kill a damn elephant-that River knocked back, not realizing what it was. After he became unwell he yelled at Frusciante “What the fuck did you give me?” Fact also that Joaquin lied to the paramedic about what was wrong with his brother, that lie meant that Narcan couldn’t be given, Narcan reverses opioid overdoses. River could have been saved if help was gotten immediately, it was close to 25 minutes before 911 was called. Frusciante & Joaquin both have River’s blood on their hands whether you like it or not.
@FTW well that's your opinion. But many people directors and actor like Leo & brat Pitt called river the great actor of his generation. And you're nobody so your opinion didn't count.
They're still inseparable. Watch Joker, the master and walk the line and you'll see River reflecting in Joaquin in every other shot. I have to warn you, without spoiling anything, if you know Joaquin's history with his brother and you know their relationship, some scenes in walk the line are almost too painful to get through. I had to watch some of them four times because I cried too much twice, and then it was just impossible for me to seperate Joaquin from his character, it's pretty brutal. A beautiful, beautiful performance and a great film, though.
it's so amazing to see how everybody who met river always (until this day) talk about him with so much love and admiration. everytime i see one of his friends talking about him, it's just the most extraordinary definition of a person. he seemed to be one of those few people in the world who are just to good. river phoenix will forever be remembered ❤💔
A highlight of when I lived in LA was when I got to attend that Academy anniversary Q+A and screening of one of my favorite ever films. Forever River flowing x
I always wondered about Joaquin the way he is as a person he never really seems full of life in interviews like something was missing l, just takes everything day by day and I didn’t realise until now, knowing his older brother died was his hero and probs a person who was extremely popular so Joaquin went from hearing of his brother constantly and people wanting to know him to losing his hero, amazing actor I’m sure his bro would been proud
There are some people that you will never meet but they touch you so deeply that you mom their loss. I still mourn River's passing. Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Heath Ledger, Robin Williams, Tom Petty, and one of my favorite authors, Sir Terry Pratchett. I still get so sad at their loss, and everything the world lost when they died. I never met them, I would have never met them had they lived but they somehow imprinted on me. I wish they hadn't been in so much pain. I wish I could have eased their suffering, they way they often eased mine, taking my brain out of my chronically ill, pain filled existence and giving me a better place to exist, even just for a little while, is a hell of a gift that is too great for a mere "Thank you," to suffice. It's as if they lead a coordinated campaign that kept me from going mad, and it's a debt I will never be able to repay.
River was my first crush and the only actor I collected teen beat pics of. No one can ever beat him. I was devastated when I saw the news and prayed it wasn’t real.
1986, I was 10 years old and saw Stand By Me. Fell in love with River at first sight. I dreamt about him last night; we were kids going on Summer camp and he was my buddy. Forever missed❤❤❤
I miss River Phoenix he was a great actor and if he were still here he would have won two or three Oscars and about five Golden Globes for his work by the age of thirty. River would have been a director and screenplay writer. He would have been so proud of Joaquin. River was a rare soul.
At the begining of this video, young river.. i can see the sharp eyes, the way he spoke - joaquim n him had very similar facial feature, expression even their body language. The way these actors spoke of river, he seemed to be very unique & talented person. I just imagine if Joaquim is THIS GOOD, River probably even beyond good... they have the same genetics...
I remember when I was a kid my dad loved this movie called stand by me and at such a young age I didnt know what a great movie I was getting ready to see but ever since that day it became one of my favorites and since that day ive just been drawn to river pheonix I mean I'm 36 today and I'm still drawn to him its a shame he lost his life so young he was amazing in so many ways and so so beautiful ❤

I still remember the night he died like it was yesterday . He had such a remarkable talent and kindness about him that this world will miss
I can see so much of Joaquin in River in the first clip. River would be so proud of his little brother.
Wil Wheaton saying that River’s death wasn’t shocking but he hoped it wasn’t true is so heartbreaking.
Maybe, although Joaquin blatantly lied to the paramedic, that lie cost precious time in giving River a possible lifesaving drug, Narcan

It hurts hearing Keanu talk about River. They were the ultimate best friends. :/
"disbelief" is the word Wil Wheaton was looking for .
WHil WHeaton
Denial.
I would say anger…
so interesting how he was so young but already was considered by others in the industry to be one of the greats... i read a different snippet from ethan hawke where he really talked about how river impacted his life as an actor bc he felt like he was always striving to be as good as river

You're wrong dude... Two heroin addicts don't drug eachother... Just because he was using doesn't mean he was any less of a person.
After he became unwell he yelled at Frusciante “What the fuck did you give me?”
Fact also that Joaquin lied to the paramedic about what was wrong with his brother, that lie meant that Narcan couldn’t be given, Narcan reverses opioid overdoses.
River could have been saved if help was gotten immediately, it was close to 25 minutes before 911 was called.
Frusciante & Joaquin both have River’s blood on their hands whether you like it or not.

I honestly think that if River was still alive, they would be inseperable, and been so happy for him
They're still inseparable.
