  • Are you an overthinker? Here are some tell-tale signs you overthink everything! While being able to weigh options carefully is a useful skill, getting carried away with thinking too much can have adverse effects. Being indecisive and constantly worrying and overanalyzing everything can create negative thoughts and emotions and overwhelm your brain.
    You are more likely to be an overthinker if you are a perfectionist or have some type of anxiety disorder. And it’s not something that can just be just turned off. Chronic overthinking is not really a conscious act, but more of a compulsive obsession.
    While there are some limitations of being trapped in an overthinking mind, knowing even just some of them can help you balance your overthinking with more doing.

      Thinking about my horrible life. My mom was not great. Told me age 12 that "Your kinda cute but will never be pretty." Horrible. I hate my past and cannot accept it at all.

    I can't stop worrying.
    I often worry about things I have no control over.
    I constantly remind myself of mistakes.
    I relive embarrassing moments in my mind over and over.
    I often ask myself "what if..." questions

      The 4th one I do always.i always think of my embarrassing situation.but what I do is I say that I forgive myself for that.then I forgets it.try that

      I blame me constantly. I worry lots of things where i have no controll over. If i want to start to start a business, i remind myself that i failed 4 previus businesses so if try new business i think i will fail again.

    "Hold on to thoughts that benefit you and let go of the thoughts holding you back" --Yes! Thanks for the reminder! Overthinking also leads to self doubt which can get you stuck in life. It's hard to deal with it sometimes but I know that when we're aware that we are overthinking, we can figure out a way to stop it:)

      @@mabelidove6813 I tend to turn captions on to focus my mind. If only I could do that when people speak and ask me to remember something at work. I could then literally pause and rewind, get my task done then erase the video. I guess that's a classic response from an over-thinker. I am an HSP. I wonder how many people are Highly Sensitive and over-thinkers or whether you could be highly sensitive without being considered an over-thinker.

    Usually, when you are overthinking, writing in a piece of paper all your thoughts when you feel like your head is about to explode can help you to relieve it a bit. While reading the notes you put on the paper, your brain can, sometimes, notice that what you are overthinking is not that big as it was becoming. Our thoughts are also information and it's about how we organize our ideas.

    This describes me 100%. Unfortunately, because I’m on the extreme end of all 18 of these things, sometimes I binge drink alcohol in order to try and calm my mind down.

    Being present in the moment is the best cure for overthinking, trust me, I googled the hell out of it and binged on 3000 hours worth of videos about it😉

      @@girikrishnan5532 for real I narrate my actions in my head, like it was hard at first but now I control my monkey mind. I wash my dishes by hand and tell a story in my head that describes my current actions, like "Charis is scrubbing a plate" etc.. sounds crazy I know. . I also go on meditation walks where I just narrate/ observe my surroundings, i.e. red car, barking dog, laughing child, mild breeze. It has really helped all my negative past ruminations and worrisome projections. I used to be on anti-anxiety medicine and I don't take anything now. I can regulate my emotions very well now. it is also important to train yourself to not take anybody else's actions personally, this helps you respond instead of be reactive.

    Overthinking is one of my toxic passions. Makes me feel safe and yet it fucks me over. I have identified myself with almost if not all every single point said on this video.
    At least I speak with my situation: my mind is very wired to think certain types of thoughts (usually negative ones). And not everything is negative. So what I am trying to do is to question some of my thoughts. And try to think about a valid positive reason why the thought might be just wrong. I also question myself why this train of thought happens: Why can't I be more positive and just live in the moment?
    I believe everyone can balance that out if you start to implement things you don't usually think about.
    And one thing said in the video a good way to counter all of this: focus on a task for a long period of time and train your focus.

    It's really annoying when people tell me I'm over thinking something bc I can't help it. Also isn't it good to be prepared for things?

      It's because overthinking brings some negative vibes, and it's kinda stupid and also annoying for non-overthinkers, like focus on the present and just think not OVERTHINK.

    This explains why I was so reticent about taking on a new and very challenging role At work... it's been a tough year because every day is completely unpredictable... but taking on the challenge has dealt with the overthinking quite a bit..

    When I overthink, I think about all the possible ways an issue or event could go and how the outcome could affect me. Once it actually happens I have already relived all the possible outcome hence not surprised much

    I think I’ve done more googling and research on things that I overthink of then I did with my school work. Also I believe overthinking can sometimes be a good thing and a bad thing but I feel it’s hard to take control of that, people don’t realize how powerful the brain can be

      I, usually, say this to myself: I will try to do everything that is in my power (100% of my best) to fulfill the tasks, and if things are not working out favourably, well, then at least it was not my fault. That almost gives me a certain level of peace of mind.

    For me it's:
    obsessing about the future,
    Who to date, seeing what clothes look good, seeing what furniture looks good in your room, completing tasks at the last minute, fearing rejecting.

    I recognize most all of those traits in me. It is hard to let go of the way I prepare. I do have obsessive traits and try to be perfect. Try not to hurt other people’s feelings. Overthink comments to me or about me. Never let things go when someone has hurt me. Always have second thoughts about anything I may make public on social media.

    Just sick of overthinking, I can’t live with it. It’s a benefit and a curse, when you’re constantly thinking about everything you realize that you’re alone. I’ve tried to talk to people about it but they don’t understand at all or just ignore me. It’s hard to explain to people that I just think so much more and I’m always thinking about different things. And even when I wanna talk to someone I end up talking to myself instead

    I, myself, am a overthinker and it's really bad. These days I'm feeling really very depressed, sad and paranoid. It doesn't bother me much before but since last two months it's taking over me. I'm always quiet, sad, scared all the time. Can't talk much about it to anyone at home. I hope to find a group online where I could share my feelings with people like me.

    I’ll overthink to an extend that I have a form of precognition to predict what I think will happen, how it will happen and who will be affected by it.
    Acid taught me a lot about myself and the way humans communicate. Things that bother most people, don’t bother me as much anymore because I know how much it doesn’t matter.
    Overthinking causes me to logically identify a problem and come to the conclusion that is it ideal or not worth the effort.

    I felt its normal to plan everything and make sure everything is perfect all the time since I'm like this from long time. But I'm happy to hear that I'm a over thinker coz no matter what life throws at me I'm always prepared 😁

      HSP is not defined by overthinking. It's a personality trait, not a subconscious choice like overthinking tends to be.

      Martina Nilsson From what you wrote, it follows that personality trait is NOT a subconscious choice. You mean, it’s conscious? Let’s not confuse definitions with consciousness, and let’s not argue that oranges are not apples, in order to prove that each one is edible. 😂 HSP’s tend to overthink things and act in the ways that are described in the video. Overthinking is a subconscious choice for HSP’s, regardless of how you define HSP.

      愛月 I did not say that the video is wrong. I only suggested an umbrella term for the list of behaviors. Personality is described as a combination of internal mental processes and externally observed behavior, and overthinking is certainly an ingredient. Overthinking can be changed, there are many types of therapy for that, and I would suggest not coming to conclusions based solely on personal experience. Look wider, look at other people and their stories, talk to psychologists and read research on “overthinking” first. Overthinking is not even a scientific term. The word is used for journalistic purposes.

    i am definitely an "overthinker." it is a habit. im not perfect. i accept that i am an overthinker and try to learn about my shortcomings and minimize their effects on my life. To Brainy Dose: thanks for the information. putting references in your video would be good, make your claims sound more "scientific". the points made seem to be generally true (at least from my perspective). but i hope young people watch this and -dont despair- but take charge of their aspirations

    Thinking Alot Is A Great Thing, But Over thinking Can Be Bad On Some Things.

    I see everything from every angle. And try to analyse every bit.
    I see details how people talk, say, eye contact, I see lied or shady things easily.
    I can predict people stupidity through normal interactions.
    I blame myself too easily
    When someone doesn't match my vibes, that person is somewhat shady most of the tym.
    I constantly fidget
    I sleep well but wake up early or in the middle of the night
    I see changes or the changes which will be coming in future
    I have a bad habit of re assure things again and again
    I don't make commitments easily coz I know I have a moody mind if I don't feel like I won't do it.

    Wow, I’ve watched only 2 of the videos and found out I’m a highly sensitive over thinker!I’m almost afraid to watch any more. This is stressful so I’d better think about it before watching any more. 🤔

    This was really helpful to watch. I overthink so much and I display almost everything that was said here. Do you have any advice on how to calm down the thinking? Also is there any science behind overthinking?

    I have most of these problems where I try to not let it weigh down on.....even when I explain things to much my supervisor would to try to let me that if it's ok then belive what she says....like if I made a few mistakes and didn't know then it's ok I don't need to explain it.I had a habit of doing cause I didn't want anyone to think I'm out to cause trouble or do anything stupid on purpose just to piss others off.She cares about me and was telling I need to chill out and relax my mind....even still mother would remind that I'm way too hard on myself a lot.I don't mean to be but I do it for reason to remind myself to be cautious to watch what I'm doing and not be stupid again....I can't help how I feel at times.If I wrong about something I would admit not to gain a pity party or anything but just to do the right things by fessing up to mistakes as a adult.

    I am, and the worst thing is not being able to let go, Over thinking is so bad that i have sever anxiety because of it.

    I used to be 100% all this. But I grew and matured and a lot of it has faded away. I still have times of overthinking but it's not NEAR as bad and as frequent. It all started when I made the decision to have a more positive life and it's been better since =)
