Listeners in the UK are extremely lucky to have BBC Radio 2. I listen when I can online and absolutely LOVE the station. Pity I can't pick it up by conventional means.
Like this package. Very contemporary sounding. It is incredible how Radio 2 has progressed from a very MOR/old time radio sounding jingle package in the late 60s, 70s, 80s and early 90s to the modern AOR/contemporary format of recent years. Before Jim Moir took over in 1996, it was said the station was aimed at an age group of "35 to death"! In the early 70s it even used to have a regular show playing Edwardian music! Nowadays it's much more aimed at a "mature 25 to a young 60 plus" audience.Wise Buddah have done a great job. The news jingle and sonic logo had been used since around 1997, I think and really needed a refresh.
This Canadian is a massive fan of Radio 2 (listen to it everyday online), and indeed the BBC in general. Yeah, we have the CBC, but it's not even close to the BBC on radio, TV, and in terms of the programming on both.
Also, just to add, I'm always struck by how much work goes into these sorts of jingles, and the news themes on the part of the BBC. The CBC has no identifying themes because they're all so generic and only 5 seconds long.
This new package is just brilliant. Big, bold and instantly memorable. I definitely think the new logo melody is better than the previous one, and the whole package is miles ahead of the stuff that Groove Addicts ever produced.
Wow, I didn't know BBC Radio 2 change its sonic logo. Thanks for posting and sharing! Greetings to you and yours in the United Kingdom from the United States of America.
We'll have to wait and see if this new tune seeps as much into the public consciousness as the old one did. My initial feeling is that it's not quite as sing-alongable, but I am well prepared to be proven wrong!
Radio 2 need to remember that the majority of their dwindling listeners still choose to do so on FM. Bring back the FM jingles and get rid of the smart speaker nonsense.
Really, really hate the screeching end notes on this newer version - the "RADIo Twooo" absolutely grates on you! I am surprised no-one else has commented. Lot of effort for a poor result tbh.
I think the BBC could save themselves many thousands of pounds by using digital keyboards with sampled sounds (violins etc) to create jingles. Even the drum sounds could be replicated. The only people you would actually need are the vocalists and perhaps the guitarists. Seems like another waste of license fee payers money. Come on the BBC, move with the times and technology. Can I have refund?
The fact that this is the BBC's own full-time orchestra completely passed you by, clearly. We're paying for them whether they played on these jingles or not...
I think the point I made bypassed you. If a digital keyboard were used by a single keyboard player, you wouldn't have to employ mulitple musicians to produce the same sound saving a fortune on costs.
'Jeremy Vine intro' - one of the best blends ever !!

I could listen to LOVE C forever.

I didnt realize they use a real orchestra
Online, on digital and on 88-91 FM
Now it is: This is BBC Radio 2 on the sounds app, on your smart speaker & on 88 to 91 FM. Or as Huey Morgan says it: On your FM dial.
How did only find out that Craig Blundell played with Porcupine Tree??? fantastic drummer.

The news jingle is so disappointing
Musicians in hell...

You obviously won't be satisfied until the Radio 2 jingles are played out live on air by the DJ with a xylophone, Hi-De-Hi style.
