This was a.i. best game of his career. His calm shooting, constantly pressuring the defense with his raw speed. Zooming in the passing lanes. Running the offense and getting his teammates involved. A.I’s peak was short, but it was one hell of a peak.

2006 Kobe didn't even survive into WCSF.
AI high volume ft shooter gave lakers all they wanted but Mutombo needed help early in the game 2nd half they did better . That one went to 76ers. However lakers took the series . Much is made of AI needing help but actually they had enough . They just didnt have AI trust offensively . Mutombo was not as terrible offensively as people thought. That 76er team shot nearly 600 more free throws than their opponents . AI averaged 10.1 fts perg. They did not use KUKOC CORRECTLY . He shouldve played more than 20 minutes perg( but played only 50 games ) And been the point forward. Instead they upped AI s usage rate . Denied kukoc the role or lost him to injury . In fact only 3 people on that team played 70 or more games. AI squabbled with Coach Brown and the chemistry of TEAM never quite developed. But they did go to the ft line a lot.

With AIs deep penetration and those 2 on the wing corner 3s they might have 1 it because when the spear point AI was blunted as it was with Shaq in the middle the corner 3s would've made them Champs. But we know the outcome. Another Ringless great players effort not fulfilled. We know how Coach Brown finessed that Laker group a couple years later using Rasheed tayshaun, 3s , and Rips superior midrange to destroy the 2004 Lakers despite Chaunceys lower rim finishes because he kicked it or drew fouls from where he made 90% from the ft. Line. Look it up . Mutombo couldn't handle all the defensive responsibilities. So though I put AI as one of the greatest foul drawers and rim finishers of all time he came up 🤏 that much short for being stubborn . Kick it - and this is where Ja is going to learn and will probably learn from AIs near miss because it's now more of a 3 ball era and he's got 3-4 mates who can stick the kick it. The Lakers made 36 3s in that series . Philly 17 and AI had 11. They outscored Philly 118 to 51 from 3. And the series was decided by 34 points. So with 67 more points from that 3 line they got chopped. AI took 162 shots by comparison kobe took 106. And in that extraordinary usage rate he averaged under 4 assists perg. With 19 total. ( AI personally is very generous but his helioeccentricity with the basketball was overdone.) Mckie and snow barely touched the ball as AI had an adamantine grip on it . Even superstars have to know their limits in a team game . THEY WERE ALSO BEATEN ON THE BOARDS SO ITS NOT ALL ON HIM. Shaq was mvp with 27 and 15. AI with 35 and 5.6 3.9 was not his shooting was low 40s high 30 %s . Would they have gotten there without him NO. A better TEAM BEAT THEM.
