Police agencies can request the addition of specific plate numbers or transponder signatures to a list, which sends real-time notifications when those vehicles are detected passing through.
License Plate readers can reveal information about people who are not accused of any crime, from private homes they visit to the times and locations they travel on any particular day.
With all the detailed information a plate reader can supply about when and where we travel can paint a picture of a person’s life.

What about that MTA supervisor who did this and bragged about it, he cheated the system over 100k, paid back 10k, got to keep his job and his car. The team that came up with cashless tolls should be accountable for not thinking ahead or fixing the problem. That 1% number is outrageous, I see someone with obscured plates almost every time I drive. Most of them only cover the back to block speeding/red light cameras.

Well we had an clearly readable plate. But their EZ Pass system didn’t read the EZ Pass and sent us a $65 fine. Then trying to get ahold of anyone from New York or New Jersey is like an act of Congress.

@@TheGaryNinja The tag should be registered with the ez pass account. So if the pass wasn’t read then they can cross reference the plate to the tag account.

All roads and highways should be free to travel on as our taxes should pay for the upkeep. To me tollroads are nothing but another unfair tax placed on all of us. We have a tollroad here in Oklahoma that goes from OKC to Tulsa (Turner turnpike) that has been paid for fully for decades but they keep running the same scam and now it's a $10 round trip. Everybody should do this license plate trick. Good for them.

You hit the nail on the head. Roads bridges & tunnel construction & maintenance should be paid for & are paid for state tax dollars. Then we get double hit $$ when we buy fuel because there's road use tax tacked on at the pump. Tolls on roads bridges & tunnels are just an egregious 3rd hit rape of the American peoples pocketbook. Don't get me wrong. Stealing is bad. But that should go both ways. When the individual does it. Let's crucify him! But when the theft is state sanctioned it's A-OK. Not to mention many criminal politicians sold out many toll roads to private corporations for like 99 year contracts to "raise needed funds or some bullshit like that." Many of those corporations are foreign owned. And where'd those extra funds end up? God only knows. That's I left the Communist State of New Jersey long ago.

I drove from Philly to Brooklyn and back a few years ago and and it cost me over $50 in tolls. I flew from Philly to Orlando for $28 bucks round trip. How does that make sense. $20 to cross a bridgee?

Not just what you are saying but in NYC they give tickets for EVERY single thing here, you have bus lane cameras, red light cameras, speed cameras, meter maids, regular cops pulling people over for trivial things, in my area there is a cop who drives a tesla patrol car TESLA patrol car giving out tickets. They make a lot of money here, i dont feel bad for the city.
Not to mention the streets and roads here ate horrible so they aren't spending money to fix them obviously, we pay all these tickets and on top of that our suspensions will wear out a lot faster

I drove to PA yesterday, the highways were smooth, flawless and free no tolls, passed through the tolls in NYS and the highway was so terrible I thought my car was going to break. They extort the citizens and pocket the cash. It's insane, we are getting robbed. I hate this state.

Perhaps the ourageous tolls in and around NYC are to blame for this? The last time - years ago - through the tunnel, it was $19 to get into town, and that is just one toll! No wonder people are trying to cheat the system. What infrastructure are they maintaining, Idk - bridges and tunnels looks old and decaying for years, so the tolls being just another way to make free money is a much more likely explanation ... i.e. greed!

tolls reduce traffic because they incentivize people to take alternative forms of transportation. you aren't gonna fix this by adding more lanes, or making parking free, etc. look at texas or california.

Come look at the long term parked cars all over mosholu ave and vicinity in Riverdale. There’s out of state cars parked everywhere here. No registration displayed. No emission /inspection sticker displayed. Expired plates. Last month my registration expired and I was issued a ticket for an expired registration. I had renewed the reg online and was waiting for the reg to come.

Yeah I feel so bad for the agency that takes in 2 BILLION per year and uses it to “maintain the infrastructure” yet the roads and bridges are decrepit. There should be accountability as to where every single penny is spent. You can absolutely guarantee if they’re taking in that much per year, a portion of it is being stolen. So sick of these people that get away with this large scale thievery. It’s just like the lottery, they take in billions upon billions and pay out a couple hundred million. Where does all that money go? No accountability whatsoever. They should have to report every friggin nickel and where it’s spent because they still rob tax paying citizens blind all year. Great news. I was in NYC one day and night, I got 3 days worth of tolls, photos enclosed, I was 150 miles away for 2 of those days.

Tolls are ridiculous. Tolls should only cover the cost of the bridge and end when that is met.
Some people are paying $1,000 / month for thier cars and $500 / week for groceries. Then throw a mortgage payment in there and other necessities - Phones, Insurance, etc... No wonder they can't afford tolls.

After paying taxes on your check, buying stuff including the car taxed, maintenance taxed, fuel taxed, property taxed, speed/red light fees, these tolls etc. Another drop and people will stop working 🤷♂️
I'm sorry what $100,000 a day and the road to the Lincoln and Holland tunnel both have potholes enough to fit a whole car. Absolutely not. I can't wait till the state starts investigating them for their $50 penalty for a 50¢ cent toll. Investigate that or how about them giving tickets for signs blocked by outdoor dining
