Talking about one of the most overlooked & underrated movies of the past few years! Go on Netflix and watch it ASAP! So good.
Sing street is on the syllabus for film studies here in Ireland, its a national treasure.
I actually studied it for English class!
It's one of my favorite movies, and I'm American
That makes me so happy.
Movie is hot ass
Can confirm, i studied it
I forced my family to watch Sing Street and they all loved it. Mission accomplished.
glad they liked it!
That happened to me and i was not looking forward to it, but then the film actually started playing.
SmugAladdin loool
I'm planning on indoctrinating my own family soon!
Drive it like you stole it should have been nominated for original song that year!
yassssssss! it got ROBBED. It was admittedly a pretty strong category last year but La La Land got TWO different nominations and I've never even heard of one of the other nominations
Dara Eleazar at least I wanted they'd have sung that at the Oscars with the whole choreography
Hard to choose: Up, On my Way to Find You, Beautiful Sea, Go Now are all amazing songs too.
Thought it was nominated? Was never going to win because La La Land but thought it was nominated.
This movie had the most important thing: passion
shuheb987654321 you should watch "the secret in their eyes", passion is the key in that movie
I agree so much
this movie is sooooooooooooooooo underrated. so glad you're talking about it. it was my favorite of 2016 :)
Aye this is one of my favorite movies, glad to see you talk about it man
favorite song?
Alfo Media of course drive it like you stole it
It's so wholesome to see my two favorite RUclipsrs talking about my absolute favorite movie :')
Also "Up" makes me cry
Well 2 years late I guess
Yeeees thank you for talking about this movie, Sing Street is ridiculously underrated.
Think it made several top 10 lists of 2016
"Drive It Like You Stole It" snubbed from winning/being nominated for Best Original Song...
Yes sing street is just so amazing and it’s a movie that I actually don’t have a problem rewatching because it’s just that enjoyable so many of the movies I watch I watch once because whenever I rewatch the movie it just feels like I know everything but sing street just makes me feel so good rewatching 💓 thanks for making this video and hopefully more people watch it!
Today, I'm still listening to their songs like every weeks.
great video essay! I love this movie with all my heart, it's very uplifting and doesn't take itself too seriously
something that really elevated Sing Street in my opinion is it's setting - there's such an 80s resurgence at the moment, but it's all sun-soaked suburban american nostalgia. being from dublin, where barely any big films (let alone teen ones) are set, it felt like coming home in a way that US-centric, groups-of-kids-on-bikes movies never do. also shout out to Carney for making Raphina nuanced and kind and having her own problems, and not being forced into the stereotype of mean, shallow love interest.
OMG I FOUND MY PPL, literally im obsessed with every artist/movie/topic you do a video about! I've searched for someone like you for such a long time!! your videos are made with so much love and the quality is so high I CANT EVEN, just please continue!!! LOVE UR CHANNEL
thank you!! I appreciate it
So glad you made a video essay over this, Sing Street is my favorite movie!!❤️
okay so this is the best channel
great film- the band sound like the cure!
Literally such a good channel
thanks guys
Great video! "Drive it like you stole it" was snubbed a best song nomination!
Sing Street has made its way up to my top 3 films of all time.
Sing Street is so marauders coded! It’s not on netflix (at least where I live) but the whole thing is on RUclips for free. Banger movie I adore it
I loved this movie so so much!! I watched this movie in my English class, we were supposed to watch ET but my teacher could find the DVD. She was going to order a new one but we saw the trailer for sing street when we were watching a bunch of movie trailers so she got that instead. I'm so glad she did because now me and all my friends are totally addicted to the soundtrack lol
I haven’t seen sing street in a few years and it came back up in conversation with a friend a few days ago and that movie holds such a special place in my heart that literally just watching this video has made me cry
Are you serious? we have the same music taste AND the same taste in movies?? you're becoming one of my fav youtubers
It's like you took all of my thoughts about sing street and put them on video. I'm so glad someone finally made a video essay about sing street. People overlook it too mug because of its basic plot but it's an incredible movie. Thank you!
Brilliant assessment... I am from Dublin myself and when I saw this film I was absolutely blown away by its quality, storyline etc. Jack Reynor (who plays Brendan) also went to my school!
Sing street heavily surprised me, I was expecting a generic music Disney rom com movie but was heavily surprised by this entertaining, dark and funny movie the characters are really liekable
also the music is banging
i love it. i...love it. i. love. it. i LOVE it. love everything about this movie, so nice to see other people appreciating it just as much as i did. i needed this movie.
This movie is just such a heartwarming sweet movie.one of my all time favorites
Than you for making this video. Sing Street deserves all the attention that it can get it! ❤
love love love sing street! definitely one of my favorite films.
I'm so glad a video like this exists!! I swear I made so much people in my life watch this movie especially my band because this inspires me so muchhh
How did I know this was gonna be another amazing video before I clicked the notification???
Good taste in music/movies, my friend
thank you, friend
This is definitely one of my top 5 movies of all time. This video sums up why even though I hadn't really thought too much about it. Thank you.
It’s honestly so beautiful, your video has reminded me of its quality as a coming of age flick full of hope
I am a film major and people are always taken back when I cite Sing Street as my favorite movie. You make a lot of points that I agree with and I am glad I am not the only one who has seen this movie a dozen times!
I doubt that any film will live up to the treasured music of ONCE. But, this is also brilliant. Films that are music films without being musicals. I hope that makes sense.
Loved the review and glad to see this movie getting more attention. Small niggle: the family was by no means poor; they were resolutely middle- to upper-middle class who’d fallen on (what I suspect they hoped to be temporary) hard times.
I’m 58 and I’ve been a huge music and movie fan all of my life. Sing Street is my favorite movie. Period. In my opinion a good movie can’t exist without a good script. Everything else will fall into place if you have that. You don’t need A list actors, expensive special effects, or lavish sets. This movie not only has an outstanding script it has great music and a terrific cast. Could Cosmo, Raphina, Eammon, Brendan etc. be cast more perfectly? Quality all the way around.
I love you so much for this.
Sing Street is one of my favorite films ever. I can't shut up about it. Watched some of your videos on brockhampton and it led me to this, immediately subscribed
Sing Street is such a great film I have to believe that it's popularity will continue to grow as the years go by until it eventually outshines La La Land as the great musical of its year.
I don't mean to nitpick but Connor isn't technically poor. The film is set during on of Ireland's biggest depressions, the economy was doing horribly, Connor's family weren't always broke. He went to a private school before he changed.
I'm so in love with this movie..the soundtrack is sooo good, the acting perfect..wish the cinema here in my country has more coming of age story like this instead of infidelity-themed ones
i love this film so much!! thank you for this
2018 and its still underrated
2023 and it’s still massively underrated but a great gem
great homage to 80s and 90s pop and this one will always leave a smile on my face
Yes! I go back to this movie all the time, it's so good! This is a great topic you've explored as well!
I love this movie sooooo much. I saw it for the first time at the theater cause I won tickets to the premiere and I had absolutely no idea what it was about and had never heard about it before, it instantly became one of my favorites
OML YES this movie is so underrated I hope more people can watch it. It’s a gem
7-8 yrs after this movie came out I see this post. I bet you I watched this movie no less than 100 times on Netflix. I was 20 in 1985 and I couldn’t believe just how exact the movie depicted that time. One of my all time favorite movies and you’re absolutely right. The soundtrack is fantastic. Too bad it didn’t get radio played
For some reason, you like everything I like, it’s awesome
“A poor Irish kid “ - he’s a posh south side kid who lives in a massive looking Victorian house
His parents were rich but they lost their money the heating wasn't on you can see it in the film that's why he went to a public school
@@BillyBobFerguson I’ve a hard time believing anyone that can afford a big Victorian house in sandymount is poor
@@paulmcgrath6118 ik it is kinda dumb writing
@@BillyBobFerguson I suppose now thinking about it - it was the eighties and property was much cheaper , I imagine the parents came from good money but fell on hard times. Brilliant film anyway. Might watch it again tonight with my daughter
@@paulmcgrath6118 yeah true, have a nice day
I'm not sure if it's an issue of originality or whether it's necessary. Sing Street profits greatly from the nostalgia bomb it gives. But yes, it's greatest strength is the execution. I'm not sure the same story would have worked if it was set in modern day pop culture, or say the 90s (imagine this during the era of Nirvana and Pearl Jam lol).
Now I have to go listen to "Drive It Like You Stole It" about eight times in a row. :)
Absolutely adore your videos. I'd love to see you talk about HOMESHAKE and how his eclectic style, being so popular, gave way to other artists becoming popular (Rex OC, Gus Dapperton, Clairo, etc).
I absolutely adore this movie. Makes me emotional thinking of the nostalgia and memories it being back .
One hid...his brother is a reflection of his future self...how things turn out if you don't do something about your dreams...that is why his brother is so supportive...I love this film...
Brilliantly done
This is my favourite movie! It’s so underrated.
Sing Street Is probably the only realistic film set in the 80s
Saw this the day after it came out and it's been one of my favourite films since
the moment you watch the film you know its gonna be a classic. Almost nothing new to the table, but quality everywhere.
so like when i first heard of sing street.. i was like really sad and thought i'd watch a rom com.. i genuinely had like no expectations of it being a good movie but oh boy i watched one of my fav movies ever
Man, This movie and Once is so great, I love John Carney
This is my favorite movie I’m so happy you did a video on it
This movie is absolutely my favorite! Would watch this again and again
I loved this movie! I also love this channel, keep it up man!!
thank you!
This channel is beyond perfect
thanks! means a lot
Yes!!! This is such a good movie and deserves more attention!!
very well put.
Calling Maria Doyle Kennedy an unknown killed me a little but excellent video!
Sing street is so underrated. It’s by far one of my favorite coming of age films.
While not quite the same, if you enjoyed this you should watch the 90s movie The Commitments which you can even find on RUclips.
Hudson Thames - Drive It Like You Stole It
natural, beautiful and profound in so many ways
I adore this film. One of my favourites 😊
I love this Irish film and the music in it!!
This is my all time favourite movie. Everyone that I've gotten to watch it loves it!
If you haven't seen Begin Again, you're missing another gem from the same director (John Carney).
When is my Boy Pablo gonna be featured in a video?
I agree almost completely with you, the film is amazing. But the last scene almost completely ruined it for me, if they would have cut that out, i think it would be one of my top favorites.
Bixter23 It's what I love most about it lol
agree the ending took me out but everything else was good!
Discovered Sing Street accidentally a year ago. Have made all my friends watch it since.
