Sculpting is fun, but sometimes capturing existing textures, or causing them to happen can also be a good way of getting shapes.
This is a rerun of the presentation from the London IMATS 2013. If you were there, it may be useful to recap. If you weren't, then you can pretend you were. If you haven't got a clue what this is all about, then you are in good company.
By all means get in touch for more info on upcoming prosthetic makeup workshops etc.

This is, to use your vernacular, BLOODY BRILLIANT! Thanks Stuart :)
Yet another amazing video. As good as some of the Stan Winston videos are, they could learn a lot from you in terms of simple, effective, clear presentation. Impressed as always, Stuart.
Once again you have saved the day! Every time I'm stuck in regards to prosthetics you come along with another excellent video! You truly have saved my bacon! Shame I missed you at IMATs though, would have been an honor to have met you. All the best!
it was a great seminar with some brilliant resource pictures i left fully inspired and with ideas. then it was even better that i got to speak to you and watch up close on the sunday sclupt gel infection demo.
Brilliant, thanks so much for your generosity Stuart!!
Awesome Steuart, the wonderful world of imagination. Thanks
This video was fantastic. So many wonderful ideas that give a lot of creative power and freedom. Please make more like this!
this is so interesting and helpful thankyou!!
Ciao Stuart! Saw this demo at IMATS ... but seeing the video again was great,
Amazing as always. Great tips!
Sooo helpful! Thank you
Wow awesome vid man, I really liked this. Makes me want to experiment with trying to create textures out of things. Thank You for this.
Fantastic - that's the idea. Sow a seed and then someone else takes it from there and makes it better!
This is just a mould silicone, a tin cure 20 Shore A from Mouldlife I think. Any moulding or lifecasting silicone would work I am sure...even alginate actually, although it may split more readily when bending like I did for the bitten apple.
Amazing!
Great video with some great ideas as always. I once tried to take a cast of the texture of a foam exercise mat, but it didn't come out well. Just a quick question though, what is that "Cat Plastic" you mentioned to encapsulate the silicone appliance? and do you know where we can get it? Google search is only returning plastic cat images.
Cap plastic. For making bald caps!
stuart bray D'OH! thank you - I was watching late at night on headphones :0)
Hey, Stuart!!! I love this, could you please tell me what paint colors/ratios you used to get the effect at 19:02?
It was skin illustrators used over a pale silicone appliance. I don't think in terms of ratios....have no idea or records of that.
What kind of silicone do you use? Can you use any kind?
This video is wonderful! But I was thinking about the "apple bite" effect: It gives an awesome texture, but isn't the mold (fungus) on the fruit harmful? How do you get rid of it, so your silicone mold doesn't get infected?
The silicone mould can be scrubbed/boiled/bleached or whatever you need to clean it. Then you get a plastiline out of this silicone mould, resculpt the edges and clean up the texture, then make a mould of that.
THEN you get an appliance out of this mould....the processes between the apple and skin are numerous. The piece is then applied to skin, not eaten...It's not a problem.
Got it! Thanks!
@@stuartbray This is awesome 🤩 Thank you so much 😊
damned keyboard ... getting ready to do a zombie ... lots of good ideas here for textures, sores, etc. You da man, mate!
would any of the molds for those silicone prosthetics work as latex prossthetics
?
Do you mean if it is possible to get latex out of the silicone moulds? It is possible, but latex works best from plaster moulds as the water can be absorbed by the plaster.
Also, the sulphur in latex will mean you can't easily get silicone appliances out of the moulds in the future as it will have contaminated it.
You could make an alginate mould of the silicone mould and make a plaster version to allow you to then get latex copies out without then ruining the original silicone mould.
I love your videos..
But maybe edit down your talking or maybe talk slower..
