    Great video Stuart! I actually used a ton of the techniques you taught on your previous sculpting videos when I had to sculpt a witch's old-face prosthetic for stage a few weeks ago. I didn't have any of the customized tools you do and couldn't make any (brass tubing alone costs an arm and a leg here!). I just had generic sculpting tools that you buy in a set, and I also used nail art dotting tools and this funny little doll's comb that my daughter had! Granted, it was for stage so it didn't need to be as refined as this, but you techniques of using a soft brush and reticulated foam for smoothing out, plus the plastic of different thicknesses and "punching" pores as well as actually placing tiny blobs for moles or pimples, and the needle under the clay and lifting for goose flesh worked out great! I didn't even have to resort to using lighter fluid (which is good cause that stuff scares me).

    Sorry if you already mentioned it in the video but, does the lighter oil affect the clay? Like can you reuse the clay after that?? Thank you for awesome video btw!

      @@カニら sure. The solvent evaporates off and leaves no trace after a few hours.

    Thank you for this video! I'm currently working on texturing a sculpt for some old character makeup, but i do have one question with the reticulated sponge: when i rub it, i end up with a lot of little tiny balls of clay spattered on the surface, and they really seem to detract from the texture i was attempting, am i doing something wrong? I'm using monster clay just so you know.

    • @stuartbray
      @stuartbray  8 лет назад +2

      you can talc it first tobstop those balls from gathering up. it may be that it's warm and the clay is soft too.

    Could i buy general reticulated sponge for cheaper than buying the stipple sponges from makeup websites/shops? Like a big pack of 50/100 pieces for example for like £5. Also can you wash them and reuse them if it was just cream paint of something like that used? As you can see I'm cheap lol

      iz iz yeah. Buy it in huge sheets from sheet foam suppliers.

    Besides lighter fluid what else can be used that has the same effect as using lighter fluid?

    • @stuartbray
      @stuartbray  3 года назад +1

      Depending on the plastiline you use99% alcohol works with Chavant. Also try the orange solvents such as used in 'Goo Off' or 'Goo-Gone' label adhesive remover.

    Hello
    If you apply alcohol to oil based clay as you have done in your tutorial, when the sculpture is finished and it comes to making a mould (im making my mould out of Easyflo 120) can the alcohol applied create problems?

    • @stuartbray
      @stuartbray  7 лет назад

      Tim Ryan I've had no problem. The alcohol evaporates entirely so it shouldn't leave any residue or affect anything.

    • @timryan8803

      Thanks Stuart - so to clarify - Ronson's lighter fluid would be fine for smoothing out fine details on Monster Clay?

    • @salsa101
      @salsa101 7 лет назад

      I've tried mineral spirits for sculpting pores on the same type of clay but it left it muddy for a long period of time and I couldn't sculpt on it anymore because it would turn into a sticky mess. Other than using the passing of time for it to return to it's original firm state, does this alcohol accelerate that process or is there something else that can do it better? Thanks for the upload!

    • @stuartbray
      @stuartbray  7 лет назад +1

      F/X Art Desk I woukd just use alcohol if anything but to be honest I rarely use solvents at all for smoothing. just all brushes and sponges
