- Timeline is taking you back to 1979. We're going to jump into our decoupage time machine for a nostalgic trip back to '79. 1979 would be the last hurrah of the Seventies where we would see the decade setting the stage for the 1980s. From the rise of Reagan to the popularity of The Village People, 1979 would end on a cliffhanger. So sit back, grab yourself a Lite Beer and enjoy Timeline 1979

The 70's was the most important decade of my life! Graduated from High School '71, graduated college '75, got my first teaching job in '77, got married in '78, and had my son in '79!!
That certainly was a big decade for you.
I was born in 1960, so for me the most important decade was the 80s, but the 70s contain the bulk of my growing-up memories. Taken together, the 70s and 80s are "where I'm from", and everything from the 90s on is like some lesser alternate world, just based on perspective. I imagine my parents' generation felt the same about their youthful decades, just as today's youth will feel the same in another 40 years about now.
@@richatlarge462 the 90’s were that shit to you? 😂
@@fruitfarmfactory7901 the music was cool, but the Gen X youth world felt like a comedown from my young adulthood. And the new world order was showing signs already of not giving up to the hype. A material focus got stronger. So while not shit by any means, I liked the 90s less than the 80s. But again, that's because I was born in 1960.
Hey, you're All Decade!
I was born Nov 1970 so I was a young child in the 70s. I never realized how turbulent that decade was since I was just a kid and no internet back then. I spent my days playing outside, riding my big wheel around the block, playing with army action figures in the sand, playing with toy guns ( cap guns and dart guns were some of my favorites ) . I remember riding in the back of pick up trucks and used to think that was so fun, nobody was worried about safety back then. Also remember riding in the back of station wagons, but that sucked. Always hated the station wagon still do. In the early 80's I would be Ridding a real bike up ramps to fly through the air for just a sec like Evil Knievel it and pop a wheelies.
I Loved the cool looking vans everyone was driving in that had a small round dark tinted window in the back. An despite fondue being messy as a kid I loved it and just thought this is delicious and such a cool idea. Bean bag chairs were great to sit in and have bean bag fights with, shag carpet, macromere, Agree shampoo, Playing ding dong ditch, cops and robbers,. Eating in the restaurant at K mart and their chocolate chip cookies. The 70s things I remember For being a young child I have many fond memories of those years. I wouldn't change that for nothing An this is just a small list of things.
Space Hoppers (Tho they were much earlier in the 70s) Skateboards ' oh yes ' my dad got one too around 77 or 78 it was light green ' don't think he ever tried it ' at least he hadn't come 1985 when I left my folks for the last time ' and it was stored in their cellar rusting by then and forgotten.
Nothing quite like it when Weird History releases a Timeline video
Indeed I love the timeline series
I hope this isn't the end.
They should keep going I was born in 98
@@bandzyolo They already have the 80s and 90s.

The wall is to this day still a masterpiece
Van Halen II
"London Calling" by The Clash is another great album that came out that year.
2 more songs from Pink Floyd's "The Wall" also got lots of airplay: Hey You and Run Like Hell.
The Walkman changed my life. Being able to carry music with me and listen to what I wanted to..best invention ever.
Better headphones for my walkman changed mine.
Better invention was the internet..... gives you the chance to download every song you want!
Sony still makes a Walkman now, albeit with flash storage for digital audio. I have the NW-WM1A. It was ridiculously expensive, but I carry my entire music library with me. It's absolutely excellent.
I remember riding the bus in the early 80's and some of the older kids had their walkmans running into small external speakers and playing them on the bus. The really old bus driver would yell back at them, "TURN OFF THAT RECORD PLAYER!" 😂😂🤣
I didn't have one until about 82 ' by which time they were cheaper ' but still pretty state of the art.
My favorite 70's moment was turning 10 years old. Being double digits was a big deal back then, I even stayed up till the exact minute I was born before finally going to sleep that night (10:02 pm). Being a kid in the 70's was fun...can't imagine how much of a downer it must be to be 10 today with how crazy the world is.
Yes! Absolutely! Turned 10 in 72... Great time to be a kid
@Airewolfe1989 I hope that's true.
@@whatsreal7506 for me it was 1979.

Growing up in the 1970s was special! I became a teenager in 1978.
Everything about the 1970s seemed special. The music, fashion, films, TV shows, attitudes, politics, toys, beautiful women, schools, etc.
I remember 1979 being an exceptionally good time. It was like everyone wanted to close the decade with a bang!
I DID end the decade with a BANG...a BIG BANG!!!😜🤪🥒💦👅🍑
Please PLEASE do the 2000s next. I’m ready to learn about the weird decade I was a child in lol
I'd like to see 2000s too but that gets more political with Bush and Obama. Maybe other decades first I think, not sure if 1960s or 1900s-1960s. 1900 decade still has a few people alive from it.
@@Doug87969 Considering Timeline 2020 Weird History Should do the 2000s & 2010s completing the 1970-2020 Timeline Story Or the 1960-2020 Timeline Story
@@Doug87969 Politics have always been a thing. We just didn't have dozens of cable and social media outlets raking in money to spread misinformation like there is today.
@@NASCARFAN93100 I am not arguing they shouldn't do it eventually. I just think a lot of people are getting impatient. Shows almost never do 1900-1950s, even though there are plenty of old people still alive from then (I am not one of them). I feel like it would be interesting to learn about decades from the past. Great video as always!!!! Thank you, Weird History!!! Now how about Timeline 2000s?!
The 70s were about the best time to grow up. I also know the 60s were pretty good also and allot of changes happen there. I looked forward to turning 13 back in 1967. I could be a big shot teenager. I got my drivers license in early 1971 and everything seemed to take off through those glorious 70s. I felt like I lived a whole lifetime in those next 10 years. I hitch hiked from coast to coast and from Florida to Canada. The party dope was even better back then too. I know I did enough to drop an Elephant and maybe a Horse or two. Cars were hot and the ladies were fast. Rock & Roll was at it's tops and I played lead guitar in a popular hometown band. I built and raced Mustangs. I also learned a trade in floor covering, tile, carpet, vinyl, hardwood. I developed my own business into total kitchen and bath remodeling and made a good living. I screwed up allot here and there, but I had one hell of a good time growing up in the 70s. The opportunities through the 70s seemed endless. Not at all like today. I would give my "I" teeth and left arm to go back to the 70s.
I was in college in 1979; my friends and I used to say that if Bo Derek is a 10 there sure are a lot of 15's walking around.
Alien's release was a big deal, they publicized it for months leading up to its release but no one knew what the Alien looked like. With about twenty minutes left to go my girl friend told me she couldn't watch any more and would be in the lobby; it is probably the most intense ending of any movie ever.
There were a number of Iranian exchange students at my college, all from wealthy families. When the Shah was deposed they all vanished almost overnight.
They failed to mention that American made cars in 1979 were complete junk, the 80's would be the decade that Japanese cars began to make huge inroads into the market.
My brother snuck me into the sequel Aliens when I was 13. I got home with such an adrenaline rush I couldn't sleep the whole night.
Here are the top 10 songs of 1979, according to the Billboard year-end singles chart:
10. Sad Eyes- Robert John
9. Ring My Bell- Anita Ward
8. Y.M.C.A.- The Village People
7. Hot Stuff- Donna Summer
6. I Will Survive- Gloria Gaynor
5. Reunited- Peaches & Herb
4. Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?- Rod Stewart
3. Le Freak- Chic

I was only 7 years old at the time and completely oblivious to the chaos going on in the world around me. Then again, I suppose most kids were. I had my Star Wars toys, Lionel trains, Shogun Warriors, and I was happy as a clam! One vivid memory that stands out for me is that 1979 was the last year we lived in a small bungalow before moving into a larger house just a stone's throw away the following year.
Same. I was born in 1970. I had never realized just how turbulent the 70s decade was, but than kids weren't spending all day on the internet either. I was just a happy kid who loved to ride their incredible Hulk Green Machine Big Wheel round and round the block. Playing with toy guns, toy trucks, action figures. Remember the 6 million dollar man action figure?
@@ITIsFunnyDamnIT I sure do, and I had one! Remember the Evel Knievel stunt cycle? That came out around the early-to-mid 70's. That decade churned out some amazing and classic toys! I had the regular Big Wheel, and later on, a Huffy Thundertrail 78 bicycle. I wish I still had that bike!

Culturally and Socially, the 1960s is the most amazing decade ever.
I'd like him to do the 60s next too even though I acknowledge that one will be quite challenging.
@@Borella309 Yeah, I feel like the '60s was the decade that changed the most when you LITERALLY compare the beginning of the decade, to the end of the decade!!! Seriously, comparing the year 1960 to 1969, it seriously feels like you're looking at two completely different time periods!... 😳😱

How could anybody hate disco?
They thought it was replacing rock music. Some of them also didn't much like the gay and/ or black aspects.
It did grow a bit better at a second take, and with some time.
1979 was the year my dad started his battery business. Specializing in buying and flipping junk batteries to recyclers while picking out the newer, undamaged units and reconditioning them...started it in a literal shed-like building on a main street, grew to 3 locations, back to 1 location in '85 when he built his big shop...sold out in 2021 and is retired now. 22:30 The "Salem's Lot" mini-series is truly a masterpiece of the vampire genre, being almost on the same level as "Let the Right One In", and one of the best adaptations of Stephen King's works. The window scene is undoubtedly one of the most memorable in the story of horror movies. Its 2005 remake with Rob Lowe isn't bad either. What beautiful times when vampires were terrifying creatures and not shiny emos made to wet teenagers' pants...
Source of countless nightmares for me 😂 put me off vampire related media for years
Indeed, the window scene kept me restless up @ night checking my own bedroom window, terrifying for sure.
I know time passes and things change, but been an avid vampire movie lover I was disappointed to see the turn it took irrigating those young ladies panties.
I love Christopher Lee’s portrayals of Dracula, even Dark Shadows the movie was good, hell even Vampire Circus was scary, and so was Count Yorga I and II
I appreciated Francis Coppola’s Dracula as well,, these were terrifying creatures of the night for sure, even Blacula was.
I flipped out when I saw the kid floating outside the window. It's still terrifying.
"Let the right one in" was stupid. Pick something better.
@@NinjaRunningWild Dude, it was possibly the best vampire movie ever made. In fact, it's considered by many one of the best movies of the 21st Century. Why it's stupid according to you?

He hate these cans 😅 More CANS. When Navin finds out he is adopted. He almost scares his grandma to death when he finds the rhythm.

Aahhh yes, the walkman... made mowing the lawn, with a pushmower (that took 2.5hours total) so much better as a kid!!! 😂😅
I thought I was losing my mind not finding 1979. Why the gap? I felt neglected. Now I'm cool. LOL
