      Aside from some superficial intervallic similiarites in the shape of the melody there aren't really direct copied and pasted elements of this song from the Han/Leia love theme. If anything it just sounds like a work composed by the same composer .... which it is. Melody and chords are completely different though. Sorry to burst your bubble. This is so beautiful! Thank you, Sergei Rachmaninov, for writing your second piano concerto so that JW could take this clarinet melody from the second movement, change the key, reorchestrate it a bit, change a few of the pitches and pass it off as original ;) ;) ;)

    • @PianistTanooki
      @PianistTanooki 8 лет назад +5

      +Max Pankau I know exactly the theme you're talking about (I've listened to that concerto countless times), but I wouldn't say this is the same theme. They're similar, oh yes, but this theme goes off into a different direction, so… it's kind of silly to call this the same. I'd say it's still different enough to be its own theme. This is the same kind of similarity that many saw with Brahms's first symphony in the last movement, where people thought he "ripped off" Beethoven's 9th. Similar, yes. Exact copy? Absolutely not.
      I hear many people call John Williams a "thief" and I never understood why. If examples like this are their best evidence to support that claim, then I'd say they're just looking for reasons to hate John Williams, looking into small details a bit too much.

    • @mrpankau

    • @mrpankau
      @mrpankau 8 лет назад

      JW's "influences" are not subconscious. He intentionally composes certain themes and so forth to sound like others' music. Hollywood directors like Spielberg and Lucas used to request that.

    • @macree01
      @macree01 5 лет назад +1

      @@mrpankau Thats an oxymoronic statement because it supposes that there is anything that has been composed that doesnt sound like others music. Thats how music works, thats how the western canon works. For some reason people feel the need to point this out with john williams music but not others. My opinion ... people must be either extremely jealous, have bad memory or be totally tone deaf.

      Well, John Williams is famous for taking motifs from "classical" music and incorporating them into his works.

      1. Why the quotation marks around "classical"?
      2. At least half the action themes in Star Wars are basically Mars: The Bringer of War put together in different ways. I think John Williams is a Gustav Holtz fan.

      1. The quotation marks are there because most people refer to any music that is not modern, classical, whereas it would depend on which era the piece was written in, (Baroque, Classical, Romantic or Modern) which I am too lazy to look up. lol
      2. Exactly my point! John Williams, whom I consider the best composer of all time, steals music from other composers. There are many composers Williams stole motifs or flat out phrases from.

      +JediMaster7251 He was mostly active in the late 19th century and early 20th century, so that would probably post-romantic, a style which applies to most of John Williams' best known works.
