Andy. I've been a diehard fan of your father's since 1986 ...I stumbled upon your sermons shortly after Dr S was called Home. And wow...I'm learning so much again. ❤
Just when I am at my lowest, and full of doubts, then there you are providing a cogent argument to get back into serving the Master. Thank you, Reverend Stanley.
So so powerful! Andy makes the brilliant point , that few others seem to pick up on- it’s incredible. The reason we have a ‘the Bible’ is BECAUSE Jesus rose from the dead. The 4 gospels are like biographies of Jesus life and times. Most of the New Testament writings are from the events of Jesus life AND resurrection. If Jesus stayed dead on the cross. Christianity as a whole would likely - have died on the cross with him( game over) - and not be here today! Only Deity to ever predict his death and resurrection. All others lived, died, and stayed in the ground. Hmm…
"For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that he was buried, and that he was raised on the third day, according to the scriptures." 1 Cor 15: 3-4. It appears that they were shocked because they didn't understand the Scriptures. What scriptures? The bible of the early church - what we know as the Old Testament. Seems that knowing them and their connection (one could say "hitch") to the meaning and purpose of Jesus' life, death, burial and resurrection is critical.
The books of Moses (Pentatuch) were the scriptures of Jesus’, the disciples, and the early church. When Jesus said “How do you read?” “It is written,” “you say you know the scriptures…” That’s the Bible as well. Amen.
