    INTRUDER
    I know something about opening windows and doors
    I know how to move quietly - to creep across creaky wooden floors
    I know where to find precious things in all your cupboards and drawers
    Slipping the clippers
    Slipping the clippers through the telephone wires
    The sense of isolation inspires
    Inspires me
    I like to feel the suspense when I'm certain you know I am there
    I like you lying awake, your bated breath charging the air
    I like the touch and the smell of all the pretty dresses you wear
    Intruder's happy in the dark
    Intruder come
    Intruder come and he leave his mark
    leave his mark
    I am the intruder.

    In the US Peter is seen as the Sledgehammer guy to most people. He is so SO much more. I adore his early 80s work so much. He is a complete genius. Can't wait to see him in Houston this October. 😍

    This is the definitive version of this song. The BPM jump gives it a blistering-fast pace, with Peter Gabriel acting out the lyrics perfectly, the breathing, THE WHISTLING. He made a sold-out crowd feel in danger. You hear this and you feel threatened. It's brilliant.

When he fell back when doing lay your hands on me I actually though he had fallen, mind blowing at the time. Would have loved to have seen him on the pg3 or especially the pg4 tour, but in hindsight revisiting the so tour, I was well, so lucky. Never gone on So, other than Mercy street. Seeing him on the i/o tour soon, bit disappointed with the set list really. Happy if I never hear sledgehammer, don't give up or even in your eyes again.. San Jacinto , wallflower, no self control.. When he started Genesis at the age of 16 where else do u go but UP! The cream always rises to a top- always. His solo records show his raw talent but his absolute peak was “The Lamb lies down on Broadway & “Selling England by the pound”- to get a glimpse of what I’m referring to LEARN all the lyrics to these masterpieces and put yourself at ages 23 & 24yo- then go shock the world with ur off the chain lyrics, his ability to produce & direct, as well as sing, and front this amazing new sound that cropped up around 50+ years ago. SO far ahead of his time and producing music decades ahead of the current culture. He exits Genesis with “Dance with the moonlight knight” & the timeless saga of Rael and his magnificent journey. I’ve been a follower and researcher of his outrageous talent and can’t say enough about him- A TRUE musical genius. While Phil & the boys we heading up the “POP TOP 10” & ruling the 1980’s with an endless string of #1 love songs including Disney sound tracks, Peter was winding down the century with “Signal to noise”- and thereby making all of my statements right on the $MONEY$-/and if u don’t know the lyrics & music to this song then that’s the reason you’re listening to “One More night”- in 1975 & 1976 Phil led a total prog jazz bad named “BRAND X”, with 25yo Phil blowing the minds of prog youth across the planet by demonstrating his total mastery on drums- Phil & the late great Jon Goodsall could bounce anything across the room and it would land on TOP! But after 50 long years his body began to fade on him and now his 21yo son plays the kit behind him! U can see the proud papa looking back at the newest circle of life! Have a great day off and enjoy this beautiful weather!! ~K.

      Peter did not "start Genesis" at age 16. Don't falsify history.
      A shame Peter left to make the big solo $$ and no longer wanted to be part of the creative TEAM. Roger Waters did the same thing to Pink Floyd.
      Luckily, because PG had insisted on writing the entire Lamb album, great writers Banks, Rutherford and Steve Hackett had a big backlog of music to play, and out came Genesis' greatest album start to finish, the sizzling scorching Trick of the Tail. Awesome PROGRESSIVE album. Every tune a gem. The media wrote them off without Peter, and they just laughed while working on Dance on a Volcano, Ripples, and the iconic set closer jazz fusion masterpiece Los Endos. Followed up by another gem, Wind and Wuthering, and then the greatest Live album of the 70s, Seconds Out.
      But when Peter called, Phil was there to help on Melt, and created the Gated Reverb Effect drum sound that became iconic.
      In the Air Tonight
      I Don't Care Anymore
      Mama
      etc
      What a drummer, composer and singer!

    • @jeffreygrove
      @jeffreygrove 3 года назад +4

      @@neplusultra4196 The dictate was no cymbals ("no metal" percussion sounds, actually) and they accidentally discovered the gated reverb effect when Phil was working on the base rhythm for the song - drums through the talkback mic had a similar effect, so they rewired the recording console to create the effect. After that it was just a matter of using digital reverb units with a volume gate.

    • @jimlassen9422
      @jimlassen9422 Год назад

      @@jeffreygrove That was the listen mic (return talkback ... RTB) from the studio for the musicians to talk to the Control Room. I worked at Solid State Logic for 7 years and know this is what accidentally created the Phil Collins drum sound at Townhouse studios in London (now closed).
      The listen mic went into a compressor on the SSL and then straight into the stereo mix. Various consoles were then changed to access the listen mic/compressor sound to bring it back out again for extra processing (post compressor) and the rest is history!

    I love this song, but Katche is playing the iconic drum sound way faster than Phil Collins' original studio recording. Maybe by this tour PG wanted it faster.

    Early Faith No More took a lot of inspiration from Peter Gabriel.
