Brilliant - history recorded, and not a trespasser in sight .....
Thank you, Philip. It’s a good spot just there; not a lot of scope for trespassing!
Magnificent, Hilary! That crossover is very special! Wonderfully well captured!
Thank you, John. It was quite nerve wracking, in a ‘will-it-won’t-it happen in view’ kind of way. It was rather splendid to see!
Brilliant capture. Just sad that people today don't appreciate history. But also very rare sight. - Tyler
Thanks Tyler. A rare sight indeed!
Superb! Right place, right time - a once in a lifetime shot!
Staffordian Thank you. It certainly was a fabulous thing to witness. 😊
What perfect timing! Nice sound from The Flying Scotsman
Thanks, Andrei It was the perfect spot!
Nice sound!? He's rattling like an old tin can! Fortunately it's a problem that was quickly taken care of.
What a brilliant capture, cracking timing from the drivers and the videographer, days planning paid off really well for you, well done
Thank you Colin. A few seconds later and it would have happened out of sight! Excellent planning by Tail Lamp Productions and some good luck involved too. Hilary 😊
Well done Hills, great capture!
Thank you. So glad they crossed while both in view. Scotsman was in danger of of heading round the bend before Clun Castle arrived. Phew!
Magnificent it’s a double steamer passing each other on the different railtours heading for Oxford and Paddington
Thanks Scott.
Hils TheTrainLady as always Hilary
A very rare event! 🚂🚂 Fabulous capture - excellent timing.
It was rare.... and rather exciting! Thank you Nigel. Hilary
I HEAR IT HAPPENED T WALSALL ONCE !!!!.
peter buckley There are a few train passing videos on RUclips but I can’t find them. I will have to ask my son; he will know.
@@hilsthetrainlady4683
Trains passing... certainly. Steam trains passing..... highly likely. But steam trains passing on the UK mainline in the modern era....???? Rare I think, especially when one of them is Flying Scotsman!!
ASK ME THEN, I CAN FIND OUT AS I HAVE SEVERAL CONTACTS INCLUDING A GUY STILL WORKING ON RAILWAY AT 76 AFTER NEARLY 60 YEARS AND SO H E FINDS HE KNOWS MUCH MORE THAN CURRENT TOP RAILWAY MANAGERS ECT WHO HE OFTEN PROVES WRONG, AS THEY HAVE NOT WORKED UP FROM THE BOTTOM. . HE GETS LOTS OF SPECIAL TRAIN CAPTAIN JOBS, EVEN ON HIGH SPEED TESTS WITH TORNADO , AS HE IS SO GOOD AT HIS JOB, VERY RARE IN THE UK, THE LAUGHING STOCK OF THE WORLD WITH WAGES UNLAWFULLY A HALF OF INFLATION AND SO DITTO OF THE CORRECT LAWFULL WAGE LEVEL, A MINIMUM OF £900 A WEEK FOR ALL.BUT FAT CATS NEED SALARY CUTS. .
Wow, just brilliant. Thank you 😀
Well done, fantastic footage. Takes me back about 55 years lol.
Thank you, Garry. Back in the good old days!
Wow, superb capture! That’s lucky to see one, but two at the same place and same time is outstanding! Not often that happens!
Thank you Toby. A rare moment indeed. It was quite nerve wracking, wondering whether it would happen in view or not.
Yes, I bet it was! Certainly turned out very successful considering the amount of views this video got too.
Great video Thanks Well Done.... Excellent Timing !! Regards Tony Australia
Thank you Tony, and thanks for watching 😊 Hilary
Can't stop watching this video Hil's, one of the best I've seen.
Thanks Paul. Glad you are enjoying it 😊
First class Hils - and a thumb from me. You timed that really well - brilliant!
Thank you Brian. My son worked it out beforehand and then the locos passed at just the right place, luckily for all of us on the bridge!
Wow that is absolutely fantastic!
Kent Rail Fan Thank you. 😊
very nice, a very rare sight. great video
BR Pannier 68 Thank you 😊
What an awesome capture, well done. :)
Thank you! It was touch and go with timings, but it all worked out well in the end. Hilary 😊
@@hilsthetrainlady4683 You're welcome, glad you made it in time. It certainly was worth it. :)
Fantastic timing !
My son (Tail Lamp Productions) spotted on RTT that this was going to happen just here, so all credit to him for good planning on a day of three rail tours.
@@hilsthetrainlady4683 Often the best laid plans never turn into fruition.... but glad it did for you on this occasion as it made for a fantastic video
The legendary Flying Scotsman.
Indeed, although little remains of the original loco, I fear. :-) Hilary
Love seeing lucky clips, well done
Westerleigh Werek 😊 Thank you
Absolutely brilliant.
Thank you, Mervyn 😊
This got to be the best video ever yet this year.
Jack Rumsey Thank you! 😊
BUT BADLY SPOILT BY CREW OF 7029 NOT BOTHERING TO WHISTLE 7029 IN ACKNOWLEDGEMENT TO 4472 WHEN IT PASSED, SO ACTUALLY WELL SHORT OF BEING THE BEST VIDEO OF 2019.THE BEST WHISTLES I HAVE EXPERIENCED WERE - - ON 31 DEC 1966 WHEN LOCO NO 16 VERY LATE EVENING OF THE LAST DAY OF STEAM RYDE TO SHANKLIN ON AN ECS TRAIN TO RYDE AT BRADING DID A VERY COMPLICATED LONG 4 TONE WHISTLE / 3 PANNIER TANKS WHISTLING A TUNE WITH EACH OTHER < LIKE HANDBDELLS >, WHILST BANKING A HEAVY STEAM HAULED FREIGHT UP THE LICKEY STEEP1/37 2 MILE BANK TO BLACKWELL PAST THE BROMSGROVE CHURCHYARD IN AUG 1963 / A BULLIED PACIFIC < ITWAS ARRANGED BEFOREHAND > WHISTLING RIGHT THROUGH BASINGSTOKE STATION IN 1966 ON AN UP WATERLOO EXPRESS / BUT THE VERY BEST WAS ON SUN 2 APRIL 1967 WHEN 41312 WAS WHISTLING THE RHYTHAM OF YELLOW SUBMARINE ALL THE WAY BROCKENHURST TO LYMINGTON TOWN AND BACK ON THE HISTORIC VERY LAST NORMAL STEAM TRAIN ON THE LAST DAY OF REGULAR STEAM ON THIS THE UKS VERY LAST REGULAR STEAM WORKED BRANCH LINE,BROCKENHURST TO LYMINGTON TOWN AND LYMINGTON PIER.
Great capture 👌👍
mattmaz2 Thank you! 😊 Hilary
That was bloomin'marvellous, thanks for getting out there-fab!
Thanks Graham. It was rather special. I have Tail Lamp Productions to thank for the excellent planning.
Hils TheTrainLady never heard of tail lamp productions, but I take my hat off to them. Will google them.
It's my son's RUclips channel 😊 He is great at planning what, where and when.
Hils TheTrainLady Nepatism!...Just had a look at some of the tail lamp material, really good variety, and great to see some miniature railway footage too.Ive just subbed, and left a quetion: on the intro vid, there was footage of a pannier, going thru one of my local stations (Hanwell), but cant seem to see it on the playlists.Hopefully, ill hear back soon.
I’m sure he will reply, Graham. Got to promote the family hobby! (Well, him and me anyway!).
Great video!
Thank you, Simon. Glad you enjoyed it! 😊 Hilary
Brilliant! Cheers, Dave.
Thanks Dave.
Hils TheTrainLady You’re welcome. An exceptional video. Cheers, Dave.
Absolutely incredible to watch this! Well done both of you for it (and I suppose luck did help a bit!)
Likely one of the best recordings of mainline steam since it was meant to come of the mainline for good! :D
Superb Hilary, what an amazing catch and well videoed as always. Regards, Jeff.
Thank you, Sam. Yes Matt planned it all, and then it looked unlikely because FS was reported as running late... then it just happened. FS a few seconds later and they’d have crossed round the bend, out of sight; CC a few seconds earlier and they’d have crossed right beneath everyone on the bridge. It was a bit nerve wracking, to be honest!
bobnweaver Thanks Jeff. A lot of planning and a bit of luck!
@@hilsthetrainlady4683 Sounds like it! Honestly I have a feeling the 20L of Scotsman may have been planned (why stop at Oxford?)
But I am glad it all worked out for you - a piece of railway history you caught yesterday!
('Yesterday' as of 16/6/19 :P )
There was no report on RTT for ages, right from way further beyond Oxford. I guess the two schedules were possibly set up for this on purpose. To think, this (well, not locos from different regions) would have been an every day sight at one time. We’d better start appreciating 800s now then. 🤔
Great video again Hilary! And great planning... or luck?? I saw a photo earlier of the two passing at Hinksey and was hoping to see the video!
Thanks Phil. It was great planning on the part of Tail Lamp Productions, then a bit of luck.... It could have happened a few seconds later out of view.
Awesome Catch! Liked & Subd 👍🏻
Thank you, Donni 😊 Hilary
Hi Hils
Always the way isn't it ,you wait for ages and two arrive together.
😂😂😂😂
Fantastic video
Thanks, Rory 😊
@@hilsthetrainlady4683 your more than welcome
May never see a crossover like that again THANKS
Thank you. Yes, very rare indeed, but there’s always hope it will happen again one of these days.
Love the first shot
kingofatlantistv Thank you 😊
Super video Hils :)
Thank you Simon. It was quite an exciting thing to see 😊
Goose bumps!
sirjohng1 Thank you 😊
Well done for that dual capture. I saw these but not both in the same shot. Start at 2.43 for the passing.
Thank you. 😊
Very lucky to get both together 😲
DIDCOTTWIST Thanks. Planning and luck combined!
This Is Awsome
Thank you. Right place, right time! 😊 Hilary
that's the third time that the castle and the a3 met each other the first one was in 1924 when Caerphilly castle was on display alongside flying Scotsman and in 1989 during the trip to Australia flying Scotsman was join by pendennis castle and now its 2019 and its Clun castle first time meeting flying Scotsman
Nice one Hils, what are the chances of that happening these days, two fabulous steam loco's at the same time, love it.
Thanks Paul. Quite a few people on the bridge where I stood didn't realise there would be two locos, let alone a cross over. They'd come for the Scotsman, I guess.
Funnily enough, it's not too often I hear a Castle make that rhythmic ticking or clicking sound typical of Great Western engines. Watching videos I often hear it from Halls, Panniers and especially Kings - the Kings seemingly having a habit of accompanying it with a series of squeaking noises, too - but rarely from Castles. Am I alone in that or...?
I can’t help you, I’m afraid - I’m not an expert on the different loco sounds. I need to pay more attention in future! Hopefully someone else might read your comment and be able to answer. 😊 Hilary

What a perfect time 2 steam train cross over
Dandyes1997 Thanks. Was great to see it.
2:47 - If that's not good timing and a half, I don't know what is!
It was great to see it!
Anyone know when Clun has a dirty diesel attached to it but Scotsman doesn't?
streamleazefishhouse It was either for turning manoeuvre, power for carriages or perhaps help on the inclines on the tour; but I doubt she needed any help.
Most excellent ! Just wish Scotsman had a better sounding whistle. Do I win a coconut for being the 300th like lol.
Barry, if I had a coconut, I'd send it to you! Thanks for your nice comment. Hilary
Fantastically rare occurrence since 1968, well done on capturing 7029 on 543P 1804 Didcot Parkway to Oxford Empty Coaching Stock and 60103 on 1Z27 1631 Worcester Shrub Hill to London Paddington The Cotswold Venturer passing at 6:24pm
