This is hands down one of the most useful hacks I have ever seen for downspout cleanout system. Thanks so much for sharing this.
As a plumber who always gets stuck flushing out weeping tile and roof drains, I love to see that you guys actually install vent clean outs! Makes my jobs soooo much easier! Good job boys! ❤️
Thank you for explaining catch basins. I am still trenching .The weather in Michigan is so unpredictable from 60 degrees to 30. degrees. But I am almost done trenching and can wait to start laying the pipe.👧
Thanks for all the useful information your site has provided. 👍

Fantastic info, thank you for sharing!
Good job guys!!! Montreal Canada 👍
Good Info!
I sure could use your talent at our home!
Awesome video! Thanks for the information!
Great job. Does snow ever cover the clean out? If so would that be a problem?
What is the best way to route a downspout drain pipe from the side of the house at the back corner, to a pipe that goes along the back of the house without losing too much velocity? Would I use the corrugated solid pipe or the smooth wall? 2 story downspout that handles 1/4 of a 1120 sq ft roof.
I noticed at 3:33 min you tied the sump pump discharge into the main line? Its okay to use the same line and use corrugated compared to a dedicated PVC schedule 40 discharge line? Trying to better understand when do run a separate line versus teeing into an existing downspout line. Thanks
Great video with a lot of explanation. Question for you. I live in Minnesota. What is your thought about using a tee at the end with a 24" deep hole filled with pea gravel and a pop up instead of the catch basin? Thanks again for the great video.
I know that could work. Though, I would make sure to have at least 4" of soil on top of the pea gravel so that you could get grass to grow there- that is if you wanted grass there.
How far down do you dig for a french drain and do you have to slope it?

@frenchdrainman I can't seem to find an answer to a question, maybe you can help. I've a 260 sq. m. roof that seems to accumulate 2.6 litres of rainfall a second during a regular rain in my location (Q20 is 100 litres per second per hectare). Do I need some kind of a drain well at the end of my 30-meter pipes or will these pipes with holes suffice to disperse the water into the ground?
What is the baughman tile made from?
Sir, thanks for all your instruction. Advice please- I connected two downspouts to the same run about 50 feet long. One of them before it connects to the main line at a “T” is connected to a 6 inch catch basin in a low spot . Problem- I used 4 inch pipe. When we get a heavy rain here in Florida the 4 inch pipe is overwhelmed. NOTE TO DIYers- use 6 inch and you won’t have a problem. The catch basin overflows. Why am I worried? That area is outside my garage where the suicide vents are located near ground level. Once rain stops, the system quickly removes the water. Fear is that in hurricane the vents will be breached and flood the garage. I don’t want to dig up the pipe and lay 6 inch now. Will a bigger catch basin do what I need to avoid the overflow. Sorry for the long story. Thanks!
Great video!!!
Do I need to tape where I join 2 pipes together? I am getting some leakage where the two meet.
Do you charge by how many feet you put in the ground? If so, how much do you charge per foot
Thank you so much
I have a question, how deep can it be?
This is your old way .This is how I have my downspouts. Works great.
Thank you for commenting and sharing. We appreciate you still watching our videos.
Forgove the ignorance.. why does the first downspout need to be higher riser than the following and so on... Also, i know for frost you use the single wall corrugated cause it wont break, but when the daylight is blocked and the thing freezes then the thaw comes and the overflow would cone out of the vent right? I mean Thats what was done in mine and i dont know if thats ok (since its just for the thaw) or do i have to redirect that overflow at the downspout somehow
So - for gutter runs of solid pipe - it's not helpful to backfill w/ stone or sand? Just fill w/ the original dirt/clay??
How deep does the downspout go into the plastic adapter?
Exactly what I need ,

Hey French Drain Man, have you ever combined a downspout system to French drain? For instance, I have a downspout and it’s about 45 ft from my fence. I want to do solid pipe with 10 ft perforated in the middle. Reason being is similar to why you recommend grid systems. Do you recommend keeping the two systems separate from each other. My plan is to do a sump basin and use the pump to go up grade to the curb. It’s the only way out and a dry well definitely won’t work.

I learned that using a 45 degree angle elbow pvc pipe does not drain the water well from the main gutter run off. It's best to use a longer flowing elbow pipe that will help the water flow better.
Love your videos. Thanks. If I run the downspouts away from the house and onto a steep grass hill, and if it needs daylight at the end, how do I prevent erosion at that spot on the hill? Can I connect a long White 4” PVC pipe with big holes in it and run that straight across the hill , not downhill or uphill? Will water work its way out the holes if the white pipe is buried? Should the end be daylighted still? Any other suggestions? Thanks.
You go to a 6-inch pipe for the last 5 feet. The amount of area that a 6-inch pipe has is so much greater than a 4 inch pipe that the water spreads out and loses energy.
Most people don’t understand the why you need raisers,( most cases you do need them,) btw the best method is to use DWV ( drainage, waste, vent) pipe, last way longer, you have glued connections( no risk of roots growing into connection) and you CANT NOT cut through it with a shovel like butter. Yes it cost a little more, NOT much.... reason so called professional do not use DWV unless home owners REQUEST, is because it take a lot longer to install because it does NOT bend, and you must have plumb connection ( more labor involved) but if your house is worth $300.000 plus YOU DO NOT USE CHEAP thin wall plastic corrugated pipe ,black or yellow, you HARD PIPE IT, PERIOD. Also gutter to DWV connection should be with a 4” fernco coupling

Will this kind of setup freeze in hard winter like we have in Quebec Canada, assuming that all my gutters are covered with a grill?

Thanks for the very quick reply. I appreciate! I actually checked that video before commenting but I wasn't sure if you guys had the same climate that us. I was wondering if corrugated pipe would build up ice over the long run during these nasty winter rains we have in our area. Right now I got 8''ish corrugated pipe downspouts on my grade, but I'd rather do a proper underground drainage system (not perforated) and send that water to daylight. Problem is that my grade doesn't have much slope on it. What would be the minimum slope you recommend so it's doesn't build up ice during the winter?
Is there a benefit of attaching the downspout to a vent/cleanout vs using a catch basin with an air gap?
Catch basin works with light tain fall. But heavy rain it doesn't do the job very well because it misses the catch basin. This method gets all the water coming from your gutter system.
Can you connect your gutter downspout system to your French drain outlet to daylight if connected at solid tubing point of the French drain?

I did this wye connection for my drainage line like you showed here thanks - but it leaks at the connection how do I prevent? Did you tape it? With what?

Look for a landscaper or lawn sprinkler contractor or DIY.
Does y connector vent helps from freezing the corrugated pipe at winter? Or is it only for flushing dirt out of system?
You can run heat tape through it in the winter
Thanks, if I need to raise the popup emitter more than 5 inches- will it work? or it is better not to use emitter and instead install a well?
Use pop-up emitter dry well

Sir how much would this job cost? To bury the pipe.
Please be nice I'm new to this so this might be a silly question but if I were to connect my downspout to my friends drain does that make any sense?
That will be fine. Having multiple downspouts on the same line helps to flush it clean during heavy rain.
Can you tie downspouts into French drains?
@Todd
I do not recommend turning your French Drain into a garbage disposal.
FRENCH DRAIN MAN you do work in northern Indiana?
Does two 4 inch pipes coming together to one 4 inch pipe create resistance to flow, and cause water to back up?
You can put up to 4 downspouts on one line. 4 inch pipe moves 240 GPM
The purpose of the vent is for faster drain or for cleaning?
Both. This is a older video. We have something better

So where does the water go? Do you use a pop-up?
@@johnsmith-ko8ud can I just dig deep and put rock and let it drain into rock in the ground. I guess sorta like the septic does.
Do you guys use machines to dig your trenches or all by shovel ?
Both. It depends on depth and Access
Finally got it. Man this can be confused but I Finally got it. Atleast the part I couldn't get thru my thick head 😂

Is there something special about the yellow pipe or is it just a brand? Normally it is black.

How do I get the pipe to drain when it has to go down and back up and back down .? Please answer asap
Sump pump. No way to make water run uphill unless you force it.
How much does a job like this cost ?

Why a vent instead of a cap on the clean out?
ruclips.net/user/shortsHdM_gomu8JE?feature=share3
Does it need a vent?
Yes. Otherwise it will glug and not flow well.
I couldn't find the vents. So I ended up buying caps. Gonna just drill a couple holes in it.
@@Dellcity1 did that help?
Burrito wrapping with stone is not necessary for this type of drainage system?
No, as he said, don’t use a french drain for your down-sprouts.
Why not show the end of the pipe ?

I get a lot of people calling and asking for us to do this for their homes.

@@FRENCHDRAINMAN ok thanks

A catch basin at the bottom each downspout not this DIY clean out is the right way to do this. With the CB you can see when it needs to be cleaned, lift off the grate and scoop out the debris and keep the debris out of the underground pipes.
I've done videos showing how the splash will destroy the Homes Veneering. It results in $1000s in damages by the time the homeowner realizes the damage it's too late
@@FRENCHDRAINMAN 6” inch minimum foundation exposed above grade should solve that. I believe that’s code for residential work!
Also CB does not have to be right up against foundation wall.
Why not use 4 inch smooth interior pipe thin wall pvc and fittings ? There is no corrugated ribs to collect debris.... in my excavation Business we never use any pipe that can stop up or slow down water flo. Not bein rude just curious why most people won’t to use corrugated pipe ? Nice job
We replace it all week long. Its fails everywhere its used in the United States
@@FRENCHDRAINMAN Curious how it fails? Improper glueing technique? Pitched incorrectly?
Fails due to freezing and cracking
Where in the hell is the gravel and fabric?🤪
It's a roof Runoff System NOT a French drain
