More sewing tutorials Please! This was a breath of fresh air in the Blender sewing world. I really appreciate the time you took to make this much needed tutorial of making an actual outfit. Can you do something more complicated? My only issue was even the final was a little rough. I would like to also see a more fited tutorial.
One thing worth noting is that, rather than relying on a little space padding for the fall, you can also go into the Field Weights tab at the bottom of cloth settings and set gravity to zero until you're ready to use it.
Add Weld modifier after Cloth if you want to seams to disappear. Blender cloth tends to break with fast movement, unless you tinker with sim quality increasing simulation time.
A game changer for me. Thank you. ps In Australia we say 'Sowing' for 'sewing' I have saved about half a dozen really important video tutorials over the years - and this is one of them. Well done.

Whenever I try to simulate, the vertices simply refuse to connect. Regardless of the settings, shape of the mesh, or whichever tutorial I base it off of. Is there anything that can be done about that?

MD using GPU to simulate, only this thing makes MD miles ahead blender :) PS editmode subdivision > subdivision modifier(on) because the last would do it for every frame so for much fastering cloth sim process its better to not have subdivision modifier :)
is already here :D you can start playing with the new improved cloth brush in 2.83.4 or check out the great new cloth physics and dynamics of the incoming blender 2.9, at the same time they improved other stuff that can help, now you have mutires that helps to go up and down according to your need in subdivisions for sculpting and come back, they improving the making and the texturing as well, now is like you have zbrush subtract painter marvelous design and Maya in just one place, I am having a lot of fun with it just with the 2.83.4 and can't wait neither imaging how cool will be work with the 2.9 :D NOTE: blender can do properly all the softwares I mentioned do, you just need to know how to do it, is mindblowing, because is crashing the market being free open source, I already installed Maya because I stop using it, and Zbrush is at the edge I uninstall it as well, I am not using any more adobe animate because blender grease pencil gets the job done perfectly as well and don't fee any need to pay the MD subscription any more :D
I'm sure someone else has mentioned this but the Sewing group isn't necessary. Blender's cloth sim will assume any single edge is a sewing line when you turn sewing on!

Make sure that your base object and cloth mesh are very big in world scale. I always ran into a problem where my cloth would ball up. Cloth sim is complicated and needs lots of space, so just scale them both up and make sure you apply scale. I dunno if this will fix it, but I hope it does.
i tried it this way before i found your Mixamo-Blender-MD workflow and i got absolutely mad. it might work ok for a simple tunic but as soon as you want it to look like actual clothes and kind of elegant it. just. wont. work.
@Ey Malla yepp, I agree. Maybe try the addon Modelling Cloth by Rich Colburn. Afaik that comes with its own sim engine. You can even drag around the simed cloth like in MD. The results are quite nice with a bit practice. Still no substitute for MD but better than what you get with vanilla Blender. If you want to try it before you pay, it is available on Github. Rich even posts that link on the selling pages.
Guys you are going in wrong direction, when you work in clothing in Blender you don't only use seems, you use constrains, is what gives you the wrinkles you are looking for, you need to know what you are doing with your dynamics as well, try to learn constrains, that will totally change your perspective about blender clothing, in this tutorial I got surprised because he is just figuring up, he really doesn't know what he is doing in blender, go and check CG cookies or other real blender modelers, unfortunately I don't have the time and English isn't my mother language then I cant really make video tutorials for you guys :(, but believe me blender can do pro clothing, and even kick the ass of MD, you can set in blender high detail parameter for simulation and rendering, believe me is more powerful, but you need to learn how to use it, the major part of videos I found in youtube about blender are for amateurs and comes from enthusiastic people, not pro modelers, but is a reason why ubisoft Nvidia AMD and more brands are backing up Blender now, and is because is righ now the more powerful 3d software in the market

Hi there!c xdo you know why the scale of a model effects the way the cloth sim works - i have a huge probelms with the cloth modifier - and i can only seem to get unpredictable corrections depending on how i scale the models - its very frustrating.. as no matter what p[parameters you apply - if the scale i not correct the sim wont work correctly
@@MartinKlekner I was wondering why my thing isn't working. It doesn't work adding the vgroup to the pin point; it stays the same. However, if you take the vgroup out of the pin then it gets all comodulated. I wonder if someone has an up to date version.
An issue I've been having is that once I sew and get the garment to drape how I want... I cant figure out how to... keep it that way. It turns into a crumbled ball with anything else I do next and I dont know what I'm doing wrong.
Using this workflow you can definitely make a base for them and then finish them up using modeling and brushes. The only thing is of there's more layers of cloth colliding I found it kinda problematic in Blender, but this should work better in future versions :)
I did exactly the same as you and it's the 5th tutorial I follow but it don't work for me and I don't know why ! It just make a ball with my clothe. The collision of the mesh or set like you and the clothe simulation too. I also have performance issues with blender with my computer with I5 9600k + rtx 2060
This is probably way too late but it may be the scale you are working with. Cloth Sim works best when you have pretty large objects, like multiple metres instead of the real size. The weird "curling up" is often the result of small scale simulation.

Hello, if you mean Internal Springs and Pressure, yes they are available, but these are best for things like balloons and pillows, but by the life of me, I wasn't able to make them work properly for a closed-up garment. If you find a way let me know please :)
@@MartinKlekner There is a separate shrinking feature that lets you shrink a specific vertex group (you can find it under the Property Weights section right below the collision.) It basically works the same as the shrinking factor under the Shape section, but only affects the assigned vertex group. As for whether it'll work well for more elastic band-esque things, I've got no clue since I haven't played with it at all. Might be worth looking into though. Also just an FYI but there's no need to assign the sewing edges into a vertex group. I'm pretty sure blender automatically uses any faceless edges as sewing lines and doesn't reference vertex groups at all when doing it. Great tutorial, I definitely learned a few things as someone who doesn't plan on getting MD
I'm getting quite annoyed with all the comparisons to MD, while everyone just creates some simple ugly clothes in Blender. Can't even sew different fabrics together as far as I know.
Now, it makes sense to pay for it because it has much more options when it comes to garment creation and usually much better and faster results. If you make a living by doing such stuff, it makes sense to have a software that can make it fast. Otherwise, yeah, Blender can give you good results too :)
Sure, no doubt that's true but you're comparing one $500 tool that does one thing to a free tool that does 500 things. Like saying, " My Bose stereo sounds so much better than my computer, who would ever use a computer?"

Yes :) It automates a few things, makes some stuff more convenient, but I wanted to make a tutorial woth just free tools :)
Dono why but with my cloth it just curls up into a ball and ignores the mesh (yes collsion is on)

Yes, you definitely can to add a little thickness :)

Try playing around with size units meters, centi, mili etc.
