    If cost isn’t an issue getting 2 of these is a nice option. Im a nomad and i live out of a carry-on and 1 checked bag. Ive been steadily using this combo for a little under a year. They stack well, never had an issue with it slipping from each other. Being able to pack two separately give you a lot more flexibility than a single bulky mat. And like the poster mentioned, you can use as a top mat on top of a studio mat and just easily rinse it off after.

      I have a hack with this as well so it doesn’t eat into your baggage limits. I have a dual top buckling backpack i use as my personal item for flights. Its a good temporary double for a mat carrier and ill wrap my Go Play mat carrier around it so it looks like one bag. So far no issues, id imagine that if you have any issue you can just fold it and sit on top of it as a “seat cushion”

    The problem with this mat is weight variation . On the Manduka site it says that the manduka pro travel weights 1.08 kg but after weighting my new pro travel mat I’ve got 1.45 kg from it . 50% more weight then stated at their site . That is meaningful since 1kg is travel oriented yet 1.45kg is not here and not their ; It is not exactly a classic weight for a travel mat .
    A travel mat is up to 1.2 kg ; That is the top end .
    The manduka pro travel therefor is for short distance like from home to the car and back yet too heavy to take it to the Gym . Especially for women.
    😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
    Sorry .

    • @jaimetan
      @jaimetan  Год назад +1

      Weird. My PRO travel is definitely super light, around 1kg and is foldable. (The PRO is closer to 3kg, the PROlite closer to 2kg, for reference). So not sure which version you have - but the travel version is definitely lightweight and even foldable as it’s about 1mm in thickness.

    Thank you for the thoughtful and thorough review. I have the Jade Voyager travel mat, which is 1.5mm thick (I think it is comparable to the EKO superlite). I too love my Prolite, but love that I can fold the Jade mat and pack into a suitcase or bag. However, I am not a big fan of the feel of rubber mats, and find the grip interferes with my practice as I tend to wiggle my hands and feet to get them into position. This looks like what I need in a travel mat. I will keep an eye on sales! Thanks again.

      Alternatively, before the PRO travel existed, I used Manduka’s eko superlite mat as my travel mat. It’s even thinner than the PRO lite and to be used more like a skin/ mat topper. Also has the rubbery feel that’s different from the PRO series though.

    Hello Jaime, thanks for this review! I'm just starting out with yoga so I don't practice at home yet but in the studio. I want to buy my own mat to put on the studio mat. I'm doubting between the pro travel or the prolite. If I buy the prolite I can use it at home on the floor. But is a prolite too thick to put on an studio mat? In time maybe I buy a pro to keep at home, because of the better cushioning. And then maybe it's a bit silly to have both the pro and the prolite :-) So I'm doubting... I' love to hear your idea!

    • @jaimetan
      @jaimetan  2 года назад +2

      Hello! You can most definitely have both pro and PROlite (I do! LOL)… but if you’re just starting out you can start with just the PROlite coz you can use that at home and also use that on its own in the studio - you won’t need to put it on top of a studio mat (the less you can touch a gross studio mat, the better!) Hope that makes sense!
      PS. Even if you’re not practicing at home yet, the PROlite might encourage you to/ make it easier for you to do that down the road and you’ll only need one mat as opposed to buying so many different mats. (Besides, with this pandemic who knows when the next time is when lockdowns happen again and you may just need to practice at home!) I think the PROlite would be more versatile!

    Hi Jaime! Thank you for the great reviews for the Mankuka mat series. I would like to seek for an advice - Pro Travel vs Eko Superlight. I bought the Eko super light for carrying purpose (already have a Eko mat at home!), it was greatly light but it became too much sticky, almost impossible to move in a mat so now I have a chance to exchange the mat and thinking about having Pro travel instead of Eko Superlight. Eko Superlight is too thin so definitely not for using its own and I feel easily sticky, the Pro Travel mat will be a good replacement? Seems similar weight to Superlight. I like doing outdoor Yoga and some workout outside, looking for the lighter one. Could you advise on this? Thank you!

    • @jaimetan
      @jaimetan  2 года назад +1

      Heya! Thanks for watching my videos! And yeah I know what you mean about eKO superlight being too grippy - it’s almost too rough! The PRO travel is very similar in feel (and stickiness) to the other PRO series mats. It’s really thin, and doesn’t provide any cushioning at all. It’s best used as a skin on top of another mat, just like eKO superlight. I’d say it’s maybe just a little bit thicker than the eKO superlight coz when I fold them both up to take traveling, the PRO travel definitely takes up a bit more space in my bag than eKO superlight. It’s not great for use on its own too - I use it only when I’m traveling so I layer it on top of a studio mat. Or I put a hotel bath towel under it if I’m practicing in a hotel room. What I mean is - I can work with it, but it’s not the “ideal” daily mat coz that’s not what it’s made for anyway. What you gain in thinness and less weight for travel, you lose in performance when compared to their regular mats. But that’s to be expected coz it’s not a fair comparison that way!
      Do you like the feel of the PRO series mats? In my experience, people who love their eKO mats don’t really like the feel of the PRO mats and vice versa coz they’re quite different textures… so I’d try and go to the store to feel the pro travel if you can. Just to check out if you can work with the thinness of it, but more importantly the texture too. I find it super grippy, but I’m not sure if it’s to your liking. I hope there’s something here you might find helpful, but when it comes down to it - it’s such a personal, individual taste thing. What I like may not be what you like when it comes to texture/ grip/ feel/ thinness. It’s best if you’re able to physically touch and feel it first if you can?

    Thank you for this review! I have been searching high and low for someone to review this mat in detail. I have been using my Pro for the past 5 years and I love it! It still looks as good as new despite my using it almost daily and the grip is so much better now. I have been deciding to get a travel mat so I have been torn deciding between the Eko Superlite and this Pro Travel. But based on your review, would you say that the Pro Travel is a better choice for me?

    • @jaimetan
      @jaimetan  3 года назад +2

      Awesome! Glad to hear this helped! I have both the eKO superlite and this PRO travel, but because I love the grip and feel of the PRO series, the travel version is hands down the winner for me. Have you seen my other review of the PRO series and the eKO superlite? It might help you. But if you don’t like the rubbery, grippy texture on yoga mats, you may not like the eKO superlite. What do you think?

    • @jaimetan
      @jaimetan  2 года назад +2

      You’re so welcome! Hmm. If you’re traveling a while and padding is important to you then I’d get the PROlite. Its a much better idea than stacking 2 PRO travels (I don’t see the point in this!) I’ve taken my PROlite traveling lots of times with me, especially on retreats and it even folds flat to pack too. Check out this other video I made that shows how I do this: ruclips.net/video/BNTmPVt4kWg/видео.html it’s about 2kg so not the lightest, but if padding is important to you then I don’t think you will enjoy the PRO travel!

    Hello Jaime! I’m about to travel and am torn between the prolite and the pro travel mat. I’m likely to be practicing on a carpeted surface during my travels. Do you think the pro travel mat / prolite might “cinch up” during practice on a carpeted surface?
    Thank you for all your informative videos on Manduka mats!

    • @jaimetan
      @jaimetan  2 года назад +3

      Hey Joey! It depends how fluffy the carpet is - if it’s a high-pile carpet, then I think this mat might cinch up, but if it’s a low-pile rug (like the Mysore rugs that aren’t fluffy), then it might be OK. Any high-pile/ fluffy carpets are going to be less stable for any yoga mat, so the thinner the mat the less stable/ heavy it will be. Don’t know if this helps?

      Hi Ashley! Both travel well but if weight is a consideration, the PROlite travel version is lighter coz it’s thinner. I just bought this mat and expected it to be lighter. My scale says it weighs 3lbs, so a bit more than the 2.4 advertised. I was torn between this and the Manduka eKO Superlite Travel mat. Other reviews said this was much better as far as padding goes, but I just read a review from a travel magazine saying the eko actually felt more padded. I’m so confused! Do you know anything about the eKO travel mat?

    • @jaimetan
      @jaimetan  3 года назад +5

      I have both this PRO travel and the eKO superlite travel mat, and in terms of feel, the PRO travel is definitely a wee bit more "padded" than the eKO superlite. But - it's still super thin though, so don't expect it'll feel padded or soft on the joints. The eKO superlite is more rubbery/ grippy to the touch, but it's definitely NOT more padded than the PRO travel - you pretty much feel the floor beneath you (perhaps that review was referring to the the eKO lite, which is a different mat from the eKO superlite). I did a comparison review of the PRO mats with the eKO superlite as those were the only mats I had at the time - you can get a more close-up look of the eKO superlite mat here: ruclips.net/video/BagD_ayAhbY/видео.html
      In conclusion: this PRO travel is very slightly more padded than the eKO superlite, but not by much and is still a super thin mat so it's not something that will feel comfy on the joints. For that you'll need a thicker mat like the PRO lite or PRO mat (I made reviews on those in the link above). Hope this helps!

    Hi Jaime, I just bought a Manduka Pro Travel mat and it is sticky! I salted it thoroughly for 24 hours and then washed it and it is still sticky as well as slippery. It's the stickiness that upsetting me the most. It makes me feel as if my hands, feet and any other part of the body in contact with the mat are dirty. When I do yoga, I want to feel good, not dirty. And, even worse, the mat actually IS sticky and there is a noise when my hands and feet unstick from the mat between moves. I am salting it again for a second time. Is this stickiness normal? I bought this mat partly because it received many favourable reviews and because I have a Manduka X Yoga and Exercise which is fabulous.

    • @jaimetan

      Hi Joy! When I got my PRO travel it definitely felt a little sticky/ grippy too… I’d say keep using it for a while coz it could be part of the break-in process. I don’t salt my mats so don’t know if it’ll help but since it’s in Manduka’s guidelines you break in a mat I reckon it wouldn’t hurt to try another round! Otherwise - definitely try emailing customer service for their opinion. Don’t know where in the world you’re based, but their EU customer service is fantastic - so email them!
