  • Manduka is a leader in the yoga space. Their mats are top of the line. But there are a lot of options. It can be hard to chose the right one, and it’s not a cheap investment.
    This Manduka Yoga Mat Review goes over the pros and cons of 5 popular yoga mats for home workouts and yoga practice to help you decide which one is best your your needs based on price, activity, sweat factor (non slip surface), and portability.
    Jenn reviews these 5 mats:
    The PRO mat
    The PROlite
    The GRP
    The eKO
    Manduka X
    Spoiler: the eKO is my fave but it has its cons (explained in video). The PROlite is my choice for best all around mat for most people.

    I own a pro-lite in the same light gray color than the one shown in the video. It has been my yoga mat for the last 8 years. I've been practicing on it almost every day and it still looks and feels new. What they say about Manduka pro mats is 100% true: once you get one of those, you will never have to invest in another yoga mat. Before the pro-lite, I used to own a Jade, a very lovely mat, but it eventually fell apart. The density of the pro-lite provides great cushion to my knees and wrists without having to carry around an extra heavy yoga mat. Also, it really sticks to the floor, which means it doesn't turn into Aladdin's magic carpet during the practice, which usually happens to other yoga mats. The only con I would give to Manduka pros is that they don't work that well in humid, tropical environments. I spent the last three years living in the Mexican Caribbean, and experienced the mat to be quite slippery, most specially during the warmest season. The solution was putting an eko-super lite on top, and some people put a towel. I definetely would not recommend a pro or pro-lite to people who live in a tropical land, or to people who have sweaty hands. Now that I'm back in my hometown, which is less humid and has milder temperatures all year round, the grip feels a lot better because my hands don't sweat as much as they did in the Caribbean. I sometimes crave for a new yoga mat, they say the Liforme mats are amazing, and there are always great new stuff coming in, but the reality is that my pro-lite is so good that I do not need, and I probably will never need, a new yoga mat.

    I use my manduka pro every day. It is heavy but indestructible. And looks like new after a couple of years.

    hey, thank you for your review. I noticed a unpleasant background noise. It's easy to remove this noise on the software you use, type "noise reduction" + the name of the software you use. It will sound more professionnal.

    Helpful! Did got yoga a few years back but not religiously. Per COVID and quarantine I’m going to get myself to get into yoga and I’m so excited. Went with the GRP (but not the Lite). So stoked! What are your favorites towels, or thoughts on them? I’ll be extremely sweaty and won’t want a pool beneath me (=

    • @jennvazquez
      @jennvazquez  3 года назад +2

      I'm so glad it was helpful! I think you'll love the GRP mat - great choice! The more I use that one, the more I like it. I do have a couple of Manduka towels. I have the hand towel which I love and use almost every workout. And I have the yogitoes towel which I really only use as a travel mat. If you have the GRP mat, I don't think you'll need a full length towel (but it's personal preference), although a hand towel is a must for wiping sweat off your hands and face! Good luck getting back into a practice!

    Thanks to this rewiev I got Prolite 😊 is it normal for Prolite to stretch? I had the idea of these mats not to stretch at all, so I'm concerned if my mat is faulty or I'm just too picky of the little things..

    • @jennvazquez
      @jennvazquez  2 года назад +2

      I've never noticed a stretch with my Prolite. That's weird. Mine are all at least a couple years old at this point - maybe they've changed the materials or something? I'd reach out to them. It could be faulty, and even if it isn't they have a lifetime warranty.

    Hi! Is the grey one called storm? is it more blue/grey in the color? I know they have a color called thunder that is also grey... deciding between the two.

    • @jennvazquez
      @jennvazquez  3 года назад

      Hi! I don't remember what is was called. It's not blue - it's definitely light grey. I looked on the website and based on the current color choices, I'd say it's Storm (but it looks lighter in person than on my screen).

    After breaking in the PROlite do you think I can use it with sweaty hands (which I get quite quickly after a couple of vinyasas)? I'm afraid to spend so much money and then not get the grip I'm after but then I do prefer the PROlite over the GRP based on your explanation.

    • @jennvazquez
      @jennvazquez  3 года назад +2

      Hi! Yes, I do think the PROlight has a good amount of grip. I’ve been using that mat as my primary mat lately and it’s holding up really well. Way more grip than the EKO and not quite as much as the GRP, but it still has plenty for a moderately sweaty session. You can always add a towel if you’re extra sweaty. :)

    Thanks a lot for this review, exactly what I was looking for, from someone with knowledge (and humour!) I am trying to choose between the lite and Pro, 4 mm vs 6 mm. I have sensitive joints, neck, shoulders and I wanted to go for the 6mm because I am practicing yin, hatha, pilates and I want to start with restorative and vinyasa. But I was afraid that my wrists will sink in the mat, which is something to avoid because it would do more bad than good and that it would compromise my flow or balance. Do you think that I should go for 4mm with props like wedges, pads etc or for the 6 mm? Thanks a lot in advance! 🙏🏻❤️

    • @jennvazquez
      @jennvazquez  3 года назад +2

      Hi! Great user name! Thanks for the positive comment and question. I would go for the 6mm Pro if you're really concerned about sensitive joints. While it is thicker and has more cushion it isn't very squishy. It's a dense cushion if that makes sense (that's why it's so dang heavy!). It's not too soft for balance or flow. You could always still use blocks for your hands with it if for some reason your wrists need extra support. I hope this helps.

      @@jennvazquez I forgot to mention that there is a mat very VERY similar to the manduka, it is called Kurma grip and they have a lite version of 4,2mm and a version of 6,5mm, I believe that they are made in the same factory as well. I didn't manage to test it on the floor because I ordered online, but I did test the grip a bit and pinched it between my fingers. It is pretty hard, like the manduka pro, the grip seemed fine but like I said I couldn't lay it flat on the floor to check properly . It also doesn't need a break in period. I am therefore very undecided between this one vs the manduka (the thickness problem was clarified, thank goodness phewww). I thought you might want to check it out as well. 🤗 Ps. That 0,5mm won't make such a difference between this one and the manduka 6mm if I decide to go for that one, right?

    • @jennvazquez
      @jennvazquez  3 года назад +1

      Cotton Candy Pancake hi again! I’ve never used Kurma - thanks for letting me know about it. No, I can’t image that 0.5 mm would make a difference. Good luck!

    • @jennvazquez
      @jennvazquez  3 года назад +4

      Yes, it's great for other workouts. The only thing is sometimes I notice shoe prints. But wearing super clean (indoor only) shoes and/or cleaning after each use solves the problem. :)
