U can use 3 weight yarn. It all depends on ur hook size as well. Hoping this helps. I don’t like thin yarn. I do all her projects no matter what size yarn she does. U have the option of doing a sample with different size yarn and hook. 🤗

Allison i think if u used lighter yarn doing this it would be much better because dark colours are hard to see
