Looking back at the career of Messi and everything he has shown and done on the pitch, what he has produced in output and won on top of all that, there is no shame in Ronaldo coming 2nd to such an alien.

Bale is a good shout for honorable mentions. The 2 seasons he had for Spurs before joining Madrid was incredible. He was so Cristiano-like the way he was able to impose his will on games. Left, right, heading, free kicks, screamers. Every game he played seemed like something special was likely to happen. He won multiple trophies at Madrid but the way he was performing in the PL it's kinda sad he wasn't able to replicate all of it in La Liga.

Arjen Robben has Bayern create a formation and style of play entirely around him. He had a hotspot where you know exactly what he was going to do but you couldn’t stop it. You can’t tell me a goalie doesn’t know he’s curling it in from outside the box but you couldn’t stop it. For me he’s my favourite player of all time. Such a unique and mesmerising style of play.

In terms of other players that deserve a shout out, Frank Ribery. What a player he was! Not sure if he got a mention or not as I started watching late.
Messi did both. He likes that KdB right inside channel and he would often drift there as a false 9 but in the MSN days, Enrique used him and Neymar as wider wingers and Rakitic and Alves used to rotate to open space for him to get into his favored zones of the pitch. Either way, he perfected certain dribbles and passes to a point that no one could rival. Forget the analysis: simply a magisterial footballer.

In my opinion longevity is not a heavy aspect in this discussion. When a winger dominates for 4+ years, the prime needs to be compared. Imo Ronaldinho prime is on lonely heights. Dinho can do what messi does, but messi cant do what Dinho done.
