@@gametimenoah5902 fromsoft doesn't know how to balance pvp in any of their games so they take an approach similar to carving a statue. When they think it looks good, they leave it alone. Once someone complains about it, they smash it into a thousand pieces and hope nobody cares anymore

I watched this back around when it first came out, because I was actually doing my own pure caster miracle build in dark souls 2. I watched this before I had beaten my second Lord at the time, and this video helped me out quite a bit more than the dark souls wiki. What I will say if you've gotten this far down on the comment for anyone trying to do any kind of pure caster build the old iron king's crown is amazing. The hexers hood is close to Faith plus one intelligence if I remember correctly which pales in comparison to the old iron king's crown which gives you I want to say 20% of all of your spell casts back every 2 minutes I believe. With this it's very often that you get back that little bit of spell you need near the end of a boss fight just before they die so you don't have to pop in Amber herb, then if you're patient enough and equip a healing spell you could do the entire game New game Plus without any bonfires easily.
Additional note that I forgot eventually, the minimum gain back for the crown of the Old iron King is one spell cast so even if you have a spell that only has one or two spell cast you'll always get back at least one.

I probably watched like 50 miracle only challenges on ds2 and this was by far the most planned out. On other challenges most people sit for hours or beat bosses with just barely enough spells to win Kyle just mowed through everything. Good job m8
Idk if you’ve seen ymfah’s video about making a ymfah video but he literally prints out whole wikis, excel spreadsheets, and plans then he binds them all. Each time for a new challenge. It’s insane.

@@dayyaanadam2589 You're correct about that he hasn't done a miracle ds2 guide, but saying he fucks up a lot of things is disingenuous. They are usually done for comedic effect.
What I love about DS2 magic is how many options you have to make yourself more powerful overtime. Rings, access to multiple scrolls, upgrading chimes, armor with added affects. DS2 in general has so many build options and makes it the most fun to play in the series, imo. That being said, some ways people can optimize this build further is using the Northern Ritual Band for additional spell usage. Sun Seal ring is also a good option for a modest 5% damage increase but no negative effects
Northern Ritual Band *could* be useful early on, but ultimately you end up getting enough spell casts by Targray that running out doesn’t become an issue. At that point you’re just taking a crowbar to your HP’s Kneecaps. Red Tearstone ring doesn’t work on magic in DS2 after it was nerfed, and Sun seal I alright but I’d rather have a ring slot for situational like Ring of Giants and such instead of something as low as 5% damage when I’m already hitting DLC bosses for not much in the first place.

You say this is the "first of many" DS2 challenge runs, but there's only 1 other on your channel. Did you give up on the game?
Glad to see you dipping your toe into DS2. You should've seen the game before the nerfs, where each miracle of Lightning Spear gave you ten shots from the get-go. You know how you had like 70 near the endgame? Picture that, but without even trying for it.
I think this game has some of the sickest challenge runs in the series, and I can't wait to see more from you. Keep up the good work!

Sorceries only isn’t a challenge, I think there’s maybe 3 bosses resistant to Magic, and they’re not hard ones. Plus, Sorceries cast faster than lightning spears.
Dark is a little harder, several difficult bosses are resistant to Dark. But on the flip side, hexes are pretty powerful in most instances. Surprise twist, everything in Brume is resistant to Fire and Dark! Just kill me now, Fume Knight.
Fire…. Oof. Pyromancy only is a bad time. Aldia, Ancient Dragon. All of Iron Keep, and all of Brume Tower. I’d rather sl1 the game than do a pyro only challenge.
Sorcery will honestly be a calm time. You can beat giant, pursuer and dragonrider easily with the spells you have access to early in the game, giving a huge soul pool.
Dark and pyro are a different thing, if you are going for "pure", since they both have steep entry costs.

Kinda amazed how well you have this planned out. Also if you decide to do pyromancy only no one well be mad if you need to kill the flexile sentry first. Just do it with bombs or something. Also also archery only is pretty fun in ds2.

@@szarekhthesilentking7043 You can. Also it's scaling bonus is glitched so any negative scaling from not being hollowed out enough doesn't apply, you'll always have base damage AR, no matter what the game says. Makes the early parts of the run before you get the regular pyro flame easier.
Pyromancy-only isn't too hard even with the few bosses that resist/negate fire and/or poison, but having to farm extra copies of Great Fireball from the Fire Lizards in FoFG is painful...
@@ludward I just hate wasting early Fire Seeds on the Dark Pyro Flame. Yeah, there’s enough seeds for both, but in a pyro run, you want to pump up the better flame sooner than later. But I guess that’s what makes it a challenge.
@@arellajardin8188 No need to upgrade the dark flame, tho. You get a Branch of Yore almost immediately after getting the dark flame, that you can use to free Rosebeth and the path to the Shaded Woods. (Hello free 30k souls and stamina/cast speed rings.)
Get Poison Mist from her and Flexile Sentry becomes a joke. Poison Mist is a savior against any fire resistant enemy that isn't Fume Knight (Gotta get gud for that one, which isn't as bad as it sounds.)
Poison Mist also stacks with Toxic Mist, which you can obtain almost immediately after getting the regular pyro flame, since you have access to both Grave of Saints and the Lost Bastille by this point.
Remembering my own struggles with a regular cleric playthrough, this is gonna be really good and I'm wondering if you're gonna touch on the same issues I experienced

I feel like when they say smelter hard they mean blue smelter bc screw that boss he is the only boss in the series I haven't killed
Honestly the runup in Scholar is complete bullshit unless you kill the clown closet of Alonne Knights to the point that they stop spawning. That alone makes me like the fight less because of the amount of work I have to do to actually fight the boss or I'll be gangbanged to death by a dozen Alonne Knights in the back trying to enter the boss arena due ro the lack of i-frames at the start of traversing a fog wall for some reason.
Seriously, who playtested that shit and said that was good? Everything else about Iron Keep isn't actually that bad, it's just that one part that is inexcuasbly bad. Honestly it's the best fire level in any FromSoftware game if you ignore that part as outside of that it's actually not bad like Lost Izalith or cobbled together like Smouldering Lake.
Most of the time when people say that a bod is bad, they mean that the bossrun sucks

Honestly I find that it's the worst one, not that it's a bad game by any means as I've put an unhealthy amount of hours into it (imo it does the exploration thing better than any other game), however the awful enemy placement (Smelter Demon runup in Scholar), some of the most garbage hitboxes I've experienced even with 100+ Agility (Sir Alonne's grab got when I was next to his sword) and the extremely lackluster boss roster (I'm not a fan of Fume Knight right now, I've beaten him but I just have a lot of issues with that fight) just drag the game down for me.
Overall I consider Dark Souls 3 the best game in of FromSoftware's souls-likes (Bloodborne has a few issues that hold it back for me in the combat), I know the game has its flaws, however I find that game's combat the most satisfying, the boss roster is easily FromSoftware's best despite the stinkers, and the soundtrack is easily one of the best of that decade. I don't play it much these days because I've burned myself out on it after over 1000, hours (currently 1,111 hours to be exact).
However I can see why its liked as well as it has a lot of fun things that I can see people overlooking the shortcomings it has to hold it so highly. It's just the jank and objectively bad design choices (i-frames being tied to a stat) hurt the experience for me.
I absolutely *need* you to try Dark Souls 2 shield-only (or pyromancy-only. That works, too).

It's a Halloween miracle! So glad we're getting into DS2 challenges, and that you had fun. So many challenge runs try so hard to be difficult or to do something that hasn't been done before, but you remembered games are supposed to be fun.

Although I’m curious about one thing. What made you decide to forego getting Licia’s set after hitting 30 FTH? Was it the +1 to FTH and INT from the hexers hood?
Probably wouldn't have made much difference. All the native FTH gives extra Lightning resist to cover what the Saint's set would give, and the Hexer's Hood gives a bit more Dark resist.
Edit: FIRE Resist, not Dark.

I wonder if the dragonrider was left there for x only challenges, since it opens up to the teacher for miracles sorceries(in the wharf) and the darkness ones(in the woods via relocated licia) and rosabeth for pyromancies(you find fragrant branches behind)

Not available until after Undead Crypt, and by that time it wouldn't offer anything worth using.
Not to mention it would go against the spirit of the challenge.

This is after the miracles nerfs from long ago...miracles and lightning in general were OP for a while, before they got nerfed.
It still takes a ton of casts, though, even this powered up many DLC bosses still take less than 100 damage per Spear...
Hey Kyle, I thought of a fun challenge after you have done everything else you wanted.
The Shieldless Lothian Run:
- Can only deal damage with the Dragon Crescent Ace while it is two handed.*
- Cannot use Shields at all (duh)
- Must wear the Stone Ring, Ring of Giants (and upgraded versions) at all times once obtained. Cannot wear any rings before these two are obtained.
- Can only wear the Faraam Armor Set. You cannot remove any piece of the set, once worn it cannot be removed.
*For mandatory ranged damage or puzzle activation you may use the Black Firebombs. But nothing else only the Black Firebombs.
Special Rule for true Pros:
Shieldless Lothian was rumored to be a Dragon hunter, meaning if a dragon is available to fight then you must kill it before any other boss. You must kill the ancient dragon when first meeting it. You cannot leave the dragon area before killing it. When the Sunken DLC is first available you must go through it all and kill Sinh before continuing on in the main story or other dlc's.

My miracle only run is definitely different than yours, haha. I prefer taking bonfire ascetic as a starting gift, because I want another copy of Emit Force (after I kill Flexile Sentry for the first time). One better way for early souls is killing the merchant in Majula (for his armor) and then going to Forest of FG and killing the ogre near the first bonfire. IF you need souls.
Using the Ascetic for a second copy of Emit Force? Now that’s big brain.

If you started with the bonfire ascetic, you could have chessed the dragon rider twice and wouldn't have needed to farm for souls early game.
That increases the health of the Firedrake/Old Dragonslayer and you'd waste to many herbs killing it (If you could at all), which would mean you'd have to hunt down a Boltstone pick up, which would suck. You also wouldn't get Heavenly Thunder and another emit force as early
@@realityoverdrive4059 So what he would have to use a couple more spell restoring items, those aren't to hard to aquire. Anyone who has farmed for the desert sorceress set, will agree with me on that. Seriously I had over 30 twilight herbs, by the time I had the whole set.
Even early game there are quite a few ways to get a good amount of spell restoring items, the sorcerer teacher has a rather nice selection of them. And you can find him pretty early on,.
@@matthiasthemagician6803 Except the damage from the Boltstone/Heavely Thunder and the extra Emit Force cast are clearly a lot easier to obtain ealier on and not that much trouble to get, overall you'd just be making that section of the game unesscasscarily harder
I’d suggest a Dual Caestus run, but that’s not a challenge. It’s just fun!

One of my favorite builds, though I prefer more of a Paladin, using Heide weapons, or the Dragonslayer’s Cresecent Axe. Defender Greatsword in NG+. Lightning damage is fantastic in DS2, they really gave miracles a glow up from the original. Even after the nerfs.
Im quite late for the party, but IF I remember correctly Lightning Spears versions deal extra damage when you point blank shoot them. The increase isnt crazy, but it was something like 30% more damage.
How do i know it? Friend one-shot me in pvp fight at both of us were confused. Or it was in DS1 or DS3.
There's a splash damage, and a target can be hit with both the main spell and the splash. But I don't think there's a point-blank mechanic on the spell itself.
A worthy challenge, since miracle spell casts start with so few.
You might be happy to know Dark Souls 2 has two very different versions. And each version has interesting challenges of their own. For example, the Ladle-only run is dramatically harder in the vanilla version, because the Dull Ember is found in Iron Keep, instead of Lost Bastille. I’ve done numerous challenge runs, and Ladle-only in Vanilla, while in Company of Champions covenant (hardmode covenant), was by far the hardest.
My one suggestion for the video is don't speed up the video(audio not included) so much. When some bosses came on it became a really hard pain to watch because the lights were flashing so much due to the speed. I don't usually have problems with your videos and don't know if for this one the video was going faster than normal, but either way I personally request the video section be slowed done from its higher speeds. I was closing my eyes whenever a boss fight came on because it was just really bad.
Agreed like a sped up boss fight is fine but these ones were really sped up to painful levels.
I'm sure it's been pointed out, but you can pick up the Disc Chime (shield) after the rat boss for a small but noticeable damage increase to all miracles.
Obviously Sun Seal (ring) also increases miracle damage no idea why he didn't use it
How about beating dark souls with only kicks?
Playing hopes and dreams and save the world is perfect as its like you have the power of God and anime on your side while using some of these miracles
Great video, as for challenge ideas how about a crossbow only run? This is the only game in the series where cross bows are good and it would be a bit of a twist on the standard bow only run.
Eh, it's not much of difference. You can't aim as easy, and you hit harder but slower. It would just be slightly different run
@@jstar3382 I like the variety of crossbows and the fact that they are slower will make certain fight much harder. Especially since you need to load as well as aim and fire.

Question, have you considered getting Unleash Magic through navlaans sidequest for sorcery only? Basically power within for all spell types only. Does require like 60 INT but the buff is strong, coupled with any of the lingering dragon rings its nice duration to. I will voice as an aside, as my first succesful build ever in dark souls 1 was a lightning throwing sunbro, i am continuously saddened by how they nerfed miracles throughout the series.

Phase 2 Raime is so easy. He hits like a truck but he has no quick random attacks. He is like nameless, big wind ups, big damage, but a test of skill, if you know how and when to dodge, it’s quite easy and fair

@@xXLunatikxXlul Raime is tough, and tanky, but when he kills me it’s because I slipped and when I kill him, it feels earned, not like a “try toe in short, hurrah for victory!” Cheezing. Fume Knight is my favourite fight in all of souls, along with dancer, artorias, Gael, and midir. Those are my top five. Sorry abyss watchers and Friede, I have more history with dancer.

you don't need to fight anything in memory of the old iron king, you can just run/roll past everything and they leave you alone at the fog gate.
This was great. I think I said it on one of your DS videos, but the skill is superb, but it's the knowledge that really makes it perfect. Knowing what rings, where and how. Knowing when to swap things out or get extra casts. Fantastic entertainment.
Great video, and very nicely planned out!
Worth looking into the attunement breakpoints for spell casts if you do more spell-based runs. They are often between when you get an extra casting, so they can be easy to miss.
Also, the Disc Chime increases Miracle Damage too, so it's a good offhand item for miracle runs! I used it when I did a similar run along with the Sun Ring which also increases miracle damage.
I love all of your Dark Souls challenges. The editing on them makes them so fun to watch. Can’t wait to see more!

This is actually a fantastic PvE Faith build post-nerf from 2014.
If you decide to play the game normally, the best weapons for NG are the Heide Knight Sword (Slash/Trust) and a Regular Mace with minimal STR/DEX requirements. Infuse with Lightning + use Sunlight Blade on top.
For DLCs and NG+, the Throne Defender Greatsword (Slash/Trust), Mace of The Insolent (Strike) and the Bow of Want (Ranged) are your best options.
You should aim for Powerstance once you get better stats, since the Throne Defender Greatsword has a self-buff and the Mace of the Insolent can cast miracles.

Soul Appease would have completely trivialized Prowling Magus and the Royal Rat Vanguard, on my faith character (hybrid melee/spellcaster) that spell took out all but two of the hollows and the priests (as well as the Magus) in the two casts that I had, it very quickly dropped to a 1v1 with the Magus himself. As for Royal Rat Vanguard, that fight lasted like a minute at most with my three Soul Appease casts (Saint's Hood) just obliterating the rats (first one took out like ten rats) and I finished it off with Heavanly Thunder.
Outside of those two fights it's not that useful for bosses, but it's by far the best spell for those two fights.
BTW I'm looking forward to the Hex only run, please don't let it turn into a Climax one-shot/nuke run.
Also I'd argue that the Decons of the Deep is a fun boss fight on anything except a Sorcerer build, there's just something so satisfying about knocking them around like ragolls without much risk if you use the Pontiff Left Eye Ring due to its ability to fully heal you under circumstances that can trigger quite often in that fight. It's not a spectacular fight (moreso given DS3's excellent boss roster), but it's just good fun and there's nothing wrong with that.
My first Dark Souls 2 character was a Miracle user, but I found them lackluster, even with the Dragon Chime. The spells just never had any oomph to them. Maybe fun for a challenge, but as a build I didn't enjoy it. Even in the endgame, my sword with barely any stat investment did significantly more damage than my Miracles with 60+ Faith. MIracles in DS2 were clearly meant to be more for Support, than an alternate way of being a mage.
Oh my god.. I can't wait for Can You Beat Elden Ring with (blanks) Only. It's going to be fuuun. In the meanwhile we still have DS3, sekiro, bloodborne, Demon Souls also. Can't wait for you to branch out to outside of from soft game.. Magic only Death's Gambit perhaps?

I will defend DS2 till I die. Yeah it wasn't the most popular one. But it feels like it had the most content, bosses, magic, and some of the coolest weapons including DUAL SHIELD WIELDING. The magic in DS2 looks awesome to me, the lighting with the chime looks incredible to me. Idk man, just isn't the same as the other Souls games but I think it's a great thing.
I know this video is ancient, but for anyone looking to repeat this, I recommend killing Titchy Gren and buying the Jester Gauntlets from Magerold. The helmet and chest of the Nahr Alma set, along with the Jester Gauntlets, Tseldora Trousers and Silver Serpent+2 is the best soul farming equipment in the game

Remember kids…sun seal, disc chime in off hand, and old bell helm give offensive miracles about a 9% damage boost with no downside. Blue dagger and clutch rings give damage boost but there’s a price to pay…Ring of faith is a nice faith +5 bonus when you hit high pricy levels…
So, a fun thing about ds2 is that there's a glitch on the pc version (because it uses the mouse) that lets you swap the use count of a spell with the use count of another spell. This includes extra stacks from other copies of the spell who's use count you're using. This means you could, in fact, equip a ton of normal soul arrows, which, of course, have a bunch of uses, and then swap lightning spear or great lightning spear onto one of them, giving you over 120 great lightning spears with only one copy of great lightning spear. This, I imagine, would make the run even easier than you're showing it, and it could also shorten the early game by letting you just charge around with 30 lightning spears at that time. Though it does require you to meet the requirements for both spells, the glitch is pretty easy to pull off with a bit of practice.
They're Great Souls, not Lord Souls.
Sorry, bothers me when people keep calling them Lord Souls. Never seen anyone refer to them as Lord Souls in DS3.
Ds1 kick only NG+ by using the orange charred ring from the centipede demon bossfight and any other damage buffing items/armors :), (as I suggested without details at the gigastream)
Why doesn't anyone buy the Arch Dragon's bell from Felking? It is really better than the others and it needs 22 faith and 4,000 souls apart, it uses normal titanites to update, it only needs 4 intelligence points, and if you go to the cartographer's house you could reverse it with the soul vessel.

Please do pyromancy only. I have thought of a route but don't know if I can test it because I don't have the dlc. I thought if you could cheese dragon rider and get lucatiel to kill flexile sentry you could get the pyro flame. You could use normal weapons on smelter demom and others immune to fire. Just a thought.
DS 1 or 2 run, only starting equipment. and when i say that i mean whatever your starting class is, whatever weapons and armor they start with thats, all you get. no new armors, no new weapons, no new spells, and no items you dont have in your starting inventory (unless its quest required). just your starting equipment. i'll also say no summons, since you dont start with the white soapstone in either game. soul consumables are allowed but no arrows or bombs or anything else that you dont start the run with. upgrading your stuff with titanite is fine, no infusions or buffs allowed.

Soul appease is very good against the rat boss and can actually damage vendrick too. Kill darkdriver gandrahl as soon as you meet him in the shaded woods. Also talk to Licia with 30 faith for the faith set with the hood that has the same +1 to your spell cast numbers. Also get the priest disc chime near the gutter that boosts miracle damage and have that equipped in the left arm while the dragon chime is in the right. O.P.

2:20 but you said only miracles damage, that is fall damage (or insta-death because he fell into the void) so... that means you can´t get lightning spear without killing him with other methods
