I have a rp3+. The thing I like about retroid is that they sell spare parts for their consoles, spare shells and conversion kits. Pretty brilliant in my opinion.
Yep, it made a customer out of me for this reason; when I saw the pocket flip my first thought was I'll wait until flip+. Then I learned that they usually sell conversion kits to make the base model convert to plus model. Here's hoping they don't break that tradition.
For those wondering if you can play Tekken 4 full speed on the rp3+ you absolutely can. You have to tweak a few settings and it runs full speed all the time at 1x or even at 1.25x resolution. There are so many games that run full speed and so many others that don't lol, especially if there are too many computer AI characters showing up on the screen such as SSX 3 or NFS, in the beginning of the race its very slow and then its smooth but its not ideal.
This looks a great machine for the money. I am fed up with people going on about the steam deck playing retro. Compare the prices and this is far better
And the latest sleep trick, for some reason, and nobody so far, has worked this out, why it works.
When switching on from a cold start, as soon as the icons show, or press a key screen appears, put into sleep mode.
(Press power button once).
Wait 20-30 secs, then press power again once.
And boy games that struggle especially Gamecube or Wii or PS2, will get a performance boost, which stays on, for as long as the RP3+ is on.
Not sure if we lose the boost, if put into sleep mode again.
This even works on RP2+ as well.
Have noticed less stutters, on there as well.
If the Retroid p.3+ had been plug and play we finally got that china budget emulator we all been waiting for. I have followed you for years buying several packages from china and hacking all my devices ( psp.3ds, vita, switch, ps3++). In the end, you started talking about mini PC,s and that got my attention. I bought a 5 TB HDD with 70 emulators+tonns of games and hooked it up to my laptop, but the emulation had problems starting at Ps2. I bought a used gaming PC and found one with an i5,16G ram ROG Strix GTX 1080 and now it's FUN. I paid 350$ and it does everything! It upscaled 6x up to ps2 and GC without problems. Playing old games in 4k is king :-).
Great review, as always. If I were looking to buy a handheld device, this would definitely be on my short list.
took me a good 2 weeks to fully set mine up the way I wanted (with Daijishu frontend) and it takes tweaking each game to get good GC and PS2 performance, but I'm pretty happy with mine. Only external change I did was to buy a Nintendo Switch 'grip' (that I had to dremel gaps out of for the volume and home buttons) so my hands didn't cramp for long play sessions. Those of us with bigger hands have issues with these little things. I still think the home/select/start/volume buttons are located in a bad place.
On the plus side, I have side-loaded SO many Android games that are running awesome (TMNT Shredder's Revenge is great on this).

I have the same unit, it's an amazing little handheld and plays up to PS2 games, not all PS2 but definitely a few good ones.
Streaming is also fantastic with it. I love mine and highly recommend it.
I just bought one of these because I see that the performance is pretty good and I can do game streaming as well. I've had bad luck with these but I decided to try this one. Hopefully I like it!

I have one of these and it is an excellent emulator. The only thing I would change about it is the screen size (make it bigger).
Love mine! Plays loads of ps2 great.
I like mine but the form factor is a bit small for my hands. Really looking forward to the grip on their website.
the thing that really bothered me was having the joystick near the bottom. so i ended up having to print a handle for it. feels very comfortable now.

I went with the PowKiddy X28 and I paid €133. Most important thing for me were the PSP and N64 emulation (with a slightly bigger screen). But this Retroid device is a real powerhouse. Sadly a bit too expensive for me priced at €199.

Im happy to see this type performance in the $199 or less price range. This very well may set the bar for 2023. I think we will see a few more powerful handhlds this year in the $149 range.

Overall a really good machine
I have this and the steamdeck. For pick-up and play, this is the better choice. Steamdeck is obviously the better choice for PC games or if reading text is important, but the RP3+ is really a great handheld for many other uses.
Edit: For making the display even better, run the 1.6 Saturation script. Oled-like. (I've got the Oled Vita).
im gonna wait n see which launches first razer edge global release (us only atm) or the next retroid pocket.

@@sm0k3yg well, I ordered it on the first day of the Chinese new year. So there was a 2 week wait, my timing was the worst lol. But it shipped the day after it ended and most people get theirs in 2-3 weeks from ordering.

Same. Ordered mine direct too, 12-02-2023, it is now 08-03-2023, status: unfulfilled. Not happy...
I ordered one on Jan 18th and have yet to get shipping info. (Feb 13th 2023) Cancelled my order. I'll just wait until I can get one on Amazon. Let's see how long it takes to actually get my money back now.
FYI: While Tekken 4 runs quite poorly on RP3+, it's very easy to get Tekken 5 running at full speed. :-) I think it's capable of the raw power needed for Tekken 4, but there's some behind-the-scenes optimization of how it's emulated that holds it back.
Just bought mine. Will arrive next week. Curious :-) One tip for EU-customers. Kibotek has them already in EU. So no taxes and hidden costs. Although I think the price will be almost the same (mine was €245), you have it faster. Mine will be here (they say) in 4 bussiness days, because it ships from Spain.
With Ali-Express and Retroid we pay tax with order so you get your package from China Instanly or that was with me.
So big positive ordering from EU store you have it faster 👍

Moi je l'ai prise direct sur Retroid, on va voir si je me fais taxé ou pas, j'ai choisi un envoi long, en France tu te fais souvent taxé sur du rapide, genre ups. I endeed took the ‘safe’ option. However not sure if it is the cheaper option, so very curious if you receive yours, if there were extra costs and taxes. I have an RP1, had an RP2 but sold it when I bought the RP2+ and I want to get this just to have them all... but it's not worth it for me. I have a Steam Deck so I can already emulate more than this can. This runs almost 200 after you pay for shipping and you have a long wait to receive it. For 300 you can get an Anbernic Win600 and for 400 you can get a Steam Deck. It needs to be around 100 for it to be worth it considering the next steps up. You can get Switch Lites for less than this used, I actually got my Animal Crossing regular Switch for 200 used with a game.

I have RG300, (had Rp2 in the past), Rp2+, Rp3+ and Steam Deck and what can I say, Rp3+ is rally good device and worth this money. I stay with Rp2+ only for retro 4/3 systems, Rp3+ is everyelse a way better. GBA looks better, upscaled Dreamcast on 16/9 and PSP on 3x looks amazing. Gamecube/WII/PS2 required a lot od tweaking but a lot od games are playable, in some 2d WII games I can play in 2x resolution. Android ports and Xbox Game Pass are next good features. Rumored Rg506 will have better spec than Odin Pro, so I supposed that price will be also higher, very close to Steam Deck 64.
What charger can you recommend for the RP3+ ? Is it good to charge from usb cable attached to pc or it needs a power brick?
plus the PS2 emulator, the devolopers have stopped working on it unfortunately.

China keeps putting new handhelds and new android boxes but some of them are really expensive and have similar specs as some cheaper options which really is a let down when you start it up and you can't play anything over Playstation 1.

u can connect 1 bluetooth i duno about 2 at the same time i just use one blue tooth and one usb
Yes you can. I used to use two bt game pads on Rp2 and ancient Android 6.

The only thing I hate is that horrible home screen, wallpaper. The 405M wallpaper out of the box looks better
You can easily get daijisio which upgrades it much better.
Everything looked fine until the Aether test with Tekken 4. This emulator still needing more progress to match the PS2 emulation gained with PCSX2.
Overall, this is a decent retro gaming device.

The GameCube is more powerful than the Ps2. I think the emulators for the ps2 are just lacking, which is surprising lol

I have it since months, and these are the best dollars I’ve ever invested 😍 Dreamcast and ps1 HD, 16:9 hacks, of course gb nes snes, n64, sega cd 32x and Saturn, psp, and even some ps2 and gc games … mame, Naomi… I can even play my ps5 streamed on it… (Xbox players or steam players, same…)

When playing Dreamcast, and ps1 games, you can set it to display in real 16:9 with hacks, same for Naomi with flycast core. (Duckstation for ps1 16:9 hacks)
The screen which is as you said really good, is rumored to be old iPhone 6 screens. And having one yes it is really close.
Drastic and nds is really good, having the ability to display both screen or only one and swap with easy shortcuts…
For ps2, or gc games, except a few games that perfectly run, 1/2 will not run acceptably…
It is not powerful enough for later systems in MAME, Naomi won’t run with MAME as an exemple but will run 100% with flycast.
The tool you show at the end as an option to map your physical inputs on the touch screen, great for android touch screen only games…
That device is really a beast.
It’s not when you can emulate a good console and the games.
Ya when you compare it to the low end Anbernic and Powkiddy devices it’s definitely pricey. Especially if you only want to play 16bit games. But this device is almost a crossover. It does the retro stuff but then even heads into PS2 territory and also plays Android games. AND it can stream higher end games from your PC if you’re into that sort of thing.

because all the good retina screens being made are for phones, so they're cheap and plentiful. plus, all the newer systems being emulated have widescreen support. some systems that dont have widescreen native have the option in the emulators and they look great added in.
Meh, the Retroid Pocket 3+ is a poor man's Odin. Besides with my Odin Pro and my Upcoming Pimax Portal all Android Handhelds below a Snapdragon 845 are now completely obsolete to me. 😕
So Mr lion are you saying this product is beneath you or did you really really want to brag about your Odin ... because I had a blue bike when I was 6 but I'm not sure that pertains to this video 🤣🤣🤣
