Thank you for uploading and sharing this video. :) The special tool to hold the crankshaft damper in place can be substituted by chains wrapped around two damper arms and secured through holes in body steel in contrasting positions.
I've got my 133,000 mile 2.7 L v-6 engine partially disassembled now. I've removed the timing chain tensioner and see clearly that it has been overdue for a timing chain replacement I am enjoying learning how to do this and proud of the fact that by using synthetic oil exclusively I have zero sludge. Using cheap oil and neglecting oil change intervals are the owner's methods of destroying an outstanding engine.
I Agree To Some Extent, I've Had 3 Of these 2.7 Engines, Only 2 Proved Worthy. The Latest One Have Been Sitting in The Garage For Over A Year Now, Just becos I Have a Knock in The Engine and The Only Fix is Installing A New Engine, Now You Know How much that is... SmH
No is the correct answer. It could take as many as 20-30 full revolutions for all marks to line up again. What's important is to ensure the crankshaft markings align with the markings on the oil pump housing during installation and that the intake camshaft markings on the sprockets align with the plated links.

10.3.15. It leaks due to the water pump shaft seal that is wore out. It's imperative that the water pump be changed soon, or the oil will be contaminated with antifreeze, causing rod & main bearings to fail! The water pump on this engine is buried in the engine, compared to most other engines! Every manufacturer has issues with something in their designs. The trick is to be aware of the potential weak points of any vehicle. If caught early, you can get very long life on most makes......"Things that I automatically incorporate on any of my vehicles, is I change my oil every 3k miles/or 6 months.........Antifreeze every 30k miles/ or 2yrs, with a new thermostat............automatic transmission filter & complete fluid flush every 30k miles. 😎 but I do all my own work.
It's there by design and is a weep hole for the water pump. Provided it's a small amount of leakage, it's perfectly normal, so ignore the misinformation below.

That sludge bucket that Chrysler produced deserved the complaints they received. The aluminum block and head produced so much heat the oil would turn to burnt crust. That engine was a joke from the start.I would love to see a class action lawsuit get filed from it.There needs to be one period. No "bullshit" to it as you say...
Starts run with little miss put in gear you have to pump It to keep. Running put my finger on it vacuum line crumbled I wood bet every all if not at least a
No the owner neglecting to fix them asap after the water pump starts leaking killed them. Mine didn't die or sludge when it went bad. It has 226.000 miles . As soon as I saw a leak I parked it. You won't find one ounce of sludge in the engine.
This vid may be old, but the information in it is absolutely spot on. Very well done.

Thermostat is ok, water sistem got purged, Water pumps is ok. You may have a leaking between block and heads.

+Steven Sapyak yea, it's a major design flaw an a pain in the phucking ass to fix.

hey,why not place all of the belt driver accessories in there and forget the fan belt Jesus,What were they thinking.
They were thinking how is the best way to fuck over the owner when it's time for repairs.
Jasper remans the 2.7 and does away with the damper on the right side cam.

worst fucking water pump design wtf were they thinking ??????????
The 2.7 engine was a lemon from the start.Poor design, and nothing well thought through...
