Based on the title, most people probably expected the channel to showcase people who were born or raised in Jamaica not these folks who got the watered down experience.
@@LukeChenShui I can speak for myself there was nothing watered down about my experience. I was born in New York. My mother and father/family are from mandeville. Growing up I have also lived in Jamaica, spent summers there. Only ate my mothers/family cooking, only heard my family speak patois. You guys are so caught up on how people speak and where there are born that you completely dismiss the fact the very fiber of who they are and how are they being raised is Jamaican.
Jamaican people are the only set of Caribbean people so adamant about separating their offspring from their heritage. It’s so weird to me.

This was SOO funny and amusing to watch. You really see how their personalities crept into their individual takes on jerk chicken. I’m not Jamaican but I’ve eaten many different versions of jerk chicken to have an opinion and love it done properly. I agree with the sentiments that jerk should always be grilled over hardwood charcoal and that it should be a bit on the dry side with crisp, somewhat blackened edges here and there for texture and flavour. Smokiness is key but so is the balance of flavours, spices, saltiness and sweetness. It should NOT be overly salty as that can take away from the other flavours, including the chicken itself which does NOT need to fall off the bone, as it is not a braised chicken. Even though the Caribbean chick made hers too wet I think she’s right about making sure it has decent heat and kick. 🌶️ 🍗 🔥They need to film this in Jamaica 🇯🇲 and find out how the real grillmasters make theirs using freshly grown ingredients.

I lived in Grand Cayman for 2 years and went to Jamaica a few times. The best jerk chicken I ever ate was from the side of the road in Negril. 2 slices of bread and some tomato sauce. God damn its delicious. Wish I could get it here back home in South Africa.

The most important components of jerk chicken is scotch bonnet peppers and allspice as main seasonings (preferably marinaded over night) and smoking the meat over pimento wood. Cook it low and slow.

My sons father is Jamaican so when he told me he would teach me how to make jerk chicken I was excited. I thought his great grandma gave him the recipe. I don't think he embarrassed himself the other guy rated his chicken higher than the woman's. Her chicken wasn't authentic at all. She even said she doesn't like the dry jerk chicken, which jerk chicken is supposed to be dry with a charr but she doesn't like that either. I ain't ever been to New York, but Central and south Florida have many, many, many caribbeans.. all they had to do was take a drive down OBT in Orlando and they could have found 50 authentic Jamaicans. If they really wanted to test a Jamaican cook, they would have done curry goat, or beef patties. Every chain restaurant and fast food joint in America just about makes "jerk" chicken.
