A couple of years ago, when I was still pretty much starting out as a gamedev, I was trying to do exactly what you did with the tree and now I just stumble on it by accident thank you very much for sharing it
Finally got around to make some trees after following your grass tutorial! it worked like a charm! you are definitely one of the best resources out there to do stylized stuff and I just wanted to say thank you for your detailed tutorials. I also like how you always mention to delete the history in Maya or to do the UVs before copying the Mesh, it just shows that you work precises and is great teaching!!
I have been loving your tutorial series and have learn so much about the environment design process from them. Please do not stop making tutorials. Keep em coming because they are very helpful and informative. Question, will you ever make a tutorial about your process for creating the sky and clouds for your UE environment scene?
How competitive is the job market right now for game design/artist for game dev? I never went to college for game design, I went briefly for computer science but never finished my degree because I stopped getting grants. So I joined the military. Getting out of the military soon and thinking about making game dev my career. (I've done game dev as a side hobby ever since I was a kid).
@@xSTstSTx well don't know if you're still looking for an answer, but I'll answer for him. If you want to make games you'd better start now, get Unity or Unreal or something and just start making stuff. It's going to take a really long time to get a skill set. What will probably help you the most is finishing the computer science degree while you continue to make games in your spare time. Like all of your spare time should be spent on it. It's an insanely competitive job market, and it's only worse now with all the tech layoffs. So imo best course of action is to look for a regular job, but keep making a game you want to make on the side. Joining a big company will be almost impossible
You are my hero. I've tried using SpeedTree to create stylized trees, but maybe it's because I had too few leaves? It doesn't look quite right. Yours, on the other hand, looks much better! I want to learn from you!
I keep revisiting your channel and l i found you just upload new one. Amazing way to start the day. I would request if possible do a small tutorial on lighting as my cards are quite visible in my scene but your blending very well . Thanks again for tutorial.
Someone know a trick in Blender to do the same cone with curve? I know that you can make a cylinder or even a plane out of a curve but how about a cony shape like in the beginning of the video?
Hi, thanks for this great tutorial. There is one point I don't understand about the subject: 35:01 When you assign the textures to the leaves, it looks like the leaves are expanding and growing. It looks like more leaves are added. How does this happen :)
Thank you again for this very informative tutorial ! I'm enjoying it a lot and learn tricks during the process ! Could you tell me what is the benefit to chose targa format over png for instance?
About the uvw, I have a question: someone told me that UVWs can not be on more than 1 isle because will make the prop heavier (less optimized) for games. Is it true?
You can play with normal settings. I show how to do that in the first video about how to create a canopy material. ruclips.net/video/1BfZSfX6_Go/видео.html
This tutorial is fantastic. I've been following along but my clumps of leaves have a strong black shadow at the centre. any ideas why? no worries if not. thanks :D
Hi! In this video I show how to change the material so it will not glow in the dark but still will have nice subsurface. I send you a link with time frame. ruclips.net/video/LbEv4CGz7LE/видео.html

It work on both UE4 and UE5. The problem could be in normals of you tree canopy mesh. Try to unlock normals in 3D editor (Maya) and transfer attributes one more time.
@@akbutea_art hey went back and unlocked the normals and there was a change to the mesh. i exported and reimported, remade the instance of the material applied, changed my billboard stuff and still no :(... any other ideas? i may just go back to scratch and try again.

Good that Maya don't cost so expensive, and the real price is around 400$ a year. Here is a link if you don`t know about it before: www.autodesk.com/campaigns/me-indie

You can watch my Stylized Pine tutorial where I show how to make leaf parts completely in Maya.
Absolutely fantastic tutorial
You can draw paint effect tree in maya and convert it into poly. Easier
Using the emissive channel for subsurface is causing my trees to glow when the scene lighting is dark, anyway to prevent this?
