Kia ora and warm greetings, Mark! It’s an absolute honour to welcome you to Auckland, the City of Sails. Your passion for exploring flavours and cultures has inspired me to create my own RUclips channel, and it’s been incredible watching your journey over the years - including seeing Micah grow up right before our eyes! Auckland, with its vibrant food scene, fresh seafood, and rich Maori-inspired cuisine, is ready to be part of your story. Thank you for sharing your adventures with us.
Welcome to New Zealand Mark! And welcome to my area, born and raised in Central Auckland. All the places are local icons, especially Muzzas pies which has been an establishment since the late 1990s. But we must take you to South Auckland also, best Pacific Island food everywhere!
What a fantastic episode. This guy is my favourite food reviewer. He really gets into it, and doesn't try to make himself the star like many other pretenders. He always showcases the food as the essence of the show and all of what is on display here is absolutely top notch.
The P part of the drink L&P (Lemon and Paeroa) refers to the MINERAL WATER used to make the Lemonade, not the region where the lemons are grown, though they might come from there. It's a true taste of New Zealand.
@@calix_red7300 Actually I am NOT a Kiwi. Yes, I live here, but I am not, nor do I claim to be, a Kiwi. And what I passed on was information I was given, when I asked what the P in L&P meant. So yeah, okay, call me a "know it all kiwi" - because I'm not.
@@calix_red7300Seems someone else needs a chill pill. Obviously you're not a kiwi or you would have agreed with that posters comments about the ingredients in L&P.
I moved here from the US last year having zero clue about pies. They are my new favourite food! Always a great snack when out and about and you can find em just about anywhere. Enjoy the rest of your trip, Mark! Can’t wait to see what else you get up to.
Many years ago Costco was selling Four and Twenty pies, an Australian Brand in the U.S. , it didn't last long though. Americans seem to have a hard time wrapping their heads around savory pies except Chicken pot pie. There are some Australian and New Zealand bakeries in the U.S. but usually most of the customers are Kiwis or Aussies like me.
Awww Mark!! So so happy you've made it to the motherland!!! Kiwiboy here from Hawkes Bay, living in Sydney (for far too long 🤭) I'm commenting before I've even started to watch this episode as I KNOW this is going to make me homesick!! L&P In the township of Paeroa, the origin place of the drink, there is a 7-metre (23 ft) tall Lemon & Paeroa bottle statue. It is one of the most photographed locations in our country, and is also considered our New Zealand icon. Originally, Lemon & Paeroa used naturally carbonated water from a spring in the town of Paeroa. The spring is located near the Ohinemuri and Waihou rivers. The land at the spring was originally used to service gold mines, and was a cow paddock when the spring was discovered. Mixed with lemon juice
Does anyone know if the lemons used (or more likely now emulated) are the locally common meyer lemons? I noticed that most supermarkets don't carry anything else. But it would explain the flavour of L&P being less acidic than I had expected. As Meyer Lemons arent actually lemons but closely related. So their flavour is different, sweeter and less sharp.

You know... on TV they never hype up British-heritage food anymore, but I'm so glad you are able to find places and the dishes that truly remind us how amazing English-inspired foods can be!
Kiwis (as indeed our Aussie whanau), have elevated the so-called English inspired foods. They're nothing like the typically 'gluggy' or 'greasy' English version. Delicious fish from our oceans too - yum!
Wow - You have to love Mark and his facial expressions when he eats. Certainly adds to the watching experience. Coming from NZ thus Certainly brings back good memories of my birth country
Down the road at the fancy pie shop it's $8 for a large pie so it realy just depends where you go but yer $8 is worth it but anything above $10 is way too much

@LucaSitan it's not that much from Europe I guess my boss travels every time in holiday. I guess they have started new direct flights from last year will need to check but true you need min 1 month to stay to go around properly n need to book places well in advance if traveling in holidays or tourist season
@@botticellib I live in North Germany, close to Berlin. The 33 hour ones are the cheapest, there are 24 hour (1 layover) but they also require travel to Frankfurt, which takes me several hours and its a lot more expensive
I know what I'm having tomorrow 😅 Pie it is, and it's only 5 mins from home. Been watching you for a while, glad to see you here in Aotearoa. Hope you enjoy your stay.
My must eat food in New Zealand is abalones. I watched a TV show showing that they can go to beaches and pick up lot of big abalones in just 1 or 2 feet deep water.
Paeroa was where the original spring water came from. Before chefs made lamb shanks fashionable, they were given away for a dollar each or less, now they just think of a number and double it.
Mark, I have to correct you there... Australia is well known for beetroot in burgers, so it isn't just a NZ thing. Here in Australia they've been doing that since 1940's or earlier. But enjoyed your foodie tour of NZ here. The pies look great.
I'm sure they're aware of it because their reputation depends on it. Food n health inspectors are quite strict here in NZ and they would be closed down immediately if there was any risk to the public.
Yes my thoughts exactly when I saw the oil. Also the oil leaking out on the cardboard box and the batter colour was not appealing. Very surprised Mark liked the hoki above the terikihi, there's no comparison, terikihi is way above most fish, even snapper when freshly caught.
@@MK-oc4gt I think you need to get out more mate. Health inspectors are a joke. If they were strict you wouldn't have grades of anything under B allowed to be open for business. First thing you always look for is the grade certificate. Told my son about this shop and he told me his mate and him decided to pass as it didn't look appealing at all. There's way better fish and chip shops in Sth Auckland.
When i saw your ad I was reminded of your Big On Spice channel where you haven't uploaded in a while. I really liked when you went around touring organic farms and restaurants and showed us a lot of new fruits and vegetables and forests. I'd like to watch some more of that content. When Muzza's opened, I walked in with my dog to trry the wares.. . Doggo got a " yesterdays" pie, given by Muzza, personally. I lived 1 km away across 2 main roads. That labrador would sneak out, up across My Albert, to Muzza's any time he could, and of course, be fed a pie, and snealk back home. Brilliant pies. White Lady is a legend.. yes, many a sordid tale unfolded there , many moons ago.

@jimmyjames1807 bro this is a food channel enjoy the content and leave the drama for another time. Bless 🙌🏾
@@jimmyjames1807 did you know when you are born in a country you are a native. little fun fact there for you
@@zooparty1257Native isnt a term I would say is used by the majority of Maori.
@@maxineb9598 I'm sure no one USES it. doesn't change the fact of what it means
Small world, Mark meets a guy from Thailand making fish n chips in Auckland, New Zealand. That's pretty wild!!!
That's not an example of small world, there's thai people everywhere just like Indians tf 😂😂😂
Wow! The white lady still going!
Im a 63 year old Kiwi living in Brizzy and that was my hang out in my 20s and early 30s after a hard night in the city. Love it.
Watching this man eat brings true happiness to the soul. Thank you for your content.
All of that food looked tasty, and it is unusual to see you eating every bit, so it must have been great.
Foods that I enjoyed from New Zealand are listed below. Some are seasonal but canned/jar versions are good if it uses the genuine fruit.
Fruit and vegetables;
Golden Kiwis
Golden queen peaches
Black Doris plums
Super sweet corn (steamed or bbq)
Fish and meals;
Hangi
Green lipped mussels
Fresh paua - specifically washed in sea water (no fresh water), lightly tenderised and BBQ in butter. Please note that fresh water will destroy the texture.
New Zealand rock lobster (crayfish) plain, with mayo, and with garlic butter.
Sweets and chocolate;
Whittakers peanut slab and almond slab
Scorched almonds
Love hearts
Jaffas
Spearmint leaves
K-bar
Pavlova
I'd add Tangy Fruits to the sweets, but not sure if they exist anymore. Essential if going to the movies!
Welcome to Aotearoa Mark , been following you for years mate hope you and the wharno (family) in joyed your visit in Maori lands of Aotearoa, we welcome you and the wharno brother ❤ enjoy your stay and please come back Mark for round two .
MAURI ORA ❤
Welcome to New Zealand, try the whitebait fritters.. pop into Auckland Fish Market down on the viaduct or hungi shop takeaway.. Hong Kong bakery in Mangere Bridge pork bun etc..
Mark.. you nailed it from start to finsh, that was the real deal when it comes to food tour..
When i saw that guy loading the steak pies with the first spoon in the pastry tray, stupid me thinking how does the meat in the pie expand lol. I ❤ NZ they have best fresh food in the world. Cant wait to visit again next year.
Hi Mark and family I have been a fan of yours for years and have enjoyed every single uploads on RUclips so again welcome to our beautiful country Aotearoa New Zealand hope you come across some wonderful gems that have exquisite food dishes that won't disappoint 😀
Mark, I love how you are at home everywhere you go. You try any and everything and your enjoyment is genuine. You always make me smile, and hungry ! Lol. Blessings. Love Joy and Happiness your way 💕💕💕💕💕
You know... on TV they never hype up British-heritage food anymore, but I'm so glad you are able to find places and the dishes that truly remind us how amazing English-inspired foods can be!
Ae! tautoko that korero
Kiwis (as indeed our Aussie whanau), have elevated the so-called English inspired foods. They're nothing like the typically 'gluggy' or 'greasy' English version. Delicious fish from our oceans too - yum!
@@MK-oc4gt it looks amazing! Even then I feel like you all don't get enough airtime
Welcome to NZ Mark 🙏 the traveling food King 👌
Wow - You have to love Mark and his facial expressions when he eats. Certainly adds to the watching experience. Coming from NZ thus Certainly brings back good memories of my birth country
I visited there as an exchange student and New Zealand has some of the nicest people. Great video Mark!
I gotta give respect to the Kiwis' on their pie prices. You'd pay anywhere from 7-15 dollars for pies of that quality here in Australia.
Down the road at the fancy pie shop it's $8 for a large pie so it realy just depends where you go but yer $8 is worth it but anything above $10 is way too much
@meganmills5412 where are you 😂😂 max ive seen for a pie is $6.50
Awesome video Mark! Come to Wellington next some great food here!
Wow you went to new zealand. Potato top pies are the true game changers. Im so used to seeing you to go thailand
He lives in Thailand but he's traveled all over the world.
Truly love watching your journeys around the globe experiencing all different cuisine, cultures, locations & more. This video is quintessential Aotearoa, especially enjoying a great pie outside the bakery, while washing it down with good ole can of L&P. You cannot hide the delight & satisfaction of the food you taste, you sir are an absolute bloody legend. if you're ever passing through Palmerston North, our business would love to host you. Nau mai, haere mai.
Hi Mark Welcome to Aotearoa NZ Funny that you are eating pies, Paeroa can be prenounce as PIE/Pae ROAR/roa, Paeroa in English means 'Long range of Mountains'. So awesome to see you enjoy our wonderful foods.
Welcome to New Zealand bro. Enjoy
New Zealand is my dream destination, my No1 bucket list item!! But it's so far away from Europe, it'll remain a dream :( So I appreciate this video all the more
Come n visit its not that far you will manage
@@Shra.D It's a 33 hour journey with 2 layovers 😪 I would need to spend at least a month in NZ to make that worth it and to afford that, I need to save for at least 5 years - but I will, because I'm sure iI'll have the best time ever
@LucaSitan it's not that much from Europe I guess my boss travels every time in holiday. I guess they have started new direct flights from last year will need to check but true you need min 1 month to stay to go around properly n need to book places well in advance if traveling in holidays or tourist season
33hrs? Where in Europe are you?
Mine was 23hrs one stopover.
Hope you make it anyways 🌿 🇳🇿
@@botticellib I live in North Germany, close to Berlin. The 33 hour ones are the cheapest, there are 24 hour (1 layover) but they also require travel to Frankfurt, which takes me several hours and its a lot more expensive
man after watching this man for over 8 years with my girlfriend we were always waiting to see if he would come to New Zealand so we could meet him lol
Same! But I bet he has been and gone!
After watching this i went to my local bakery and had me a mince and cheese pie and saussage roll and an l&p. So glad you made it to Aotearoa mark!
I know what I'm having tomorrow 😅 Pie it is, and it's only 5 mins from home. Been watching you for a while, glad to see you here in Aotearoa. Hope you enjoy your stay.
Been waiting for that “oh wow” of approval on a steak and cheese pie for years!!!!
My must eat food in New Zealand is abalones. I watched a TV show showing that they can go to beaches and pick up lot of big abalones in just 1 or 2 feet deep water.
Not common now, as been overfished
Stuart island or Chatham islands has biggest and best stocks left
There is a limit to how many you are allowed to collect. Same with lots of shellfish.
Kina...yum
Paeroa was where the original spring water came from. Before chefs made lamb shanks fashionable, they were given away for a dollar each or less, now they just think of a number and double it.
yeah they used to be dog tucker
Mark, I have to correct you there... Australia is well known for beetroot in burgers, so it isn't just a NZ thing. Here in Australia they've been doing that since 1940's or earlier. But enjoyed your foodie tour of NZ here. The pies look great.
Omg I can't believe you were in NZ how awesome is that. Thank you for visiting our little country. Hope it was all you expected
Oh no, that oil looked overused, hope you clean it on the regular Tipenes!
There's so many good FNC shops here, a definite staple.
Also, I'd like to watch some more Perú videos (the rain forest! - check out 'reportage al peru' for info on the whole country) and Bolivia and Greece (Crete!)
New Zealand is beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
I haven't seen Mark, that excited in a long time. Look at the spark in the eyes while eating the New Zealand lamb shank! 🤩
You are the man!!! Thank you for your videos and taking us with you
