- A number of launch monitors have emerged in the last few years, and all are packed with tech. Beware: With much tech comes much responsibility. The key is knowing what to do with it.
In this Garmin R10 review, SuperCoach and Caddie to the Stars, Kippa, takes us through the key elements to focus on in order to get the greatest benefit for your game.
I just got the R10 to test it out before the release of the Rapsodo MLM 2 Pro. As a 10 handicap trying to go single digit and keep a consistent shot shape...I really want the club path and face data the Garmin has but the new Rapsodo is still lacking.
We think those metrics are King, as they dictate everything. The ball metrics are a bonus.
Awesome review! I’ve found the R10 to be “pretty close” to what I’d expect for AOA, club path, and face angle, with the occasional head-scratcher.
What would you say the R10 accuracy is on those parameters compared to a higher end unit (ie Trackman)? A “few degrees” vs sub-1 degree? How important is that difference to an average mid handicap player?
Kippa has used premium launch monitors for many years. Understanding the difference in price, club metrics would be
Watched dozens of reviews on the R10 lately. This is by far the best for helping anyone understand just how good it is. 👍🏻⛳️
Thanks for the feedback. In Kippa, we trust.
Thanks for this - I've been leaning toward the r10 because of those club face metrics so this was a great demonstration
Thanks for this video!
I just started lessons and my instructor wants me to focus on swing path and face to path. I am glad to see that the R10 is accurate with those numbers as that is what I am currently using it for. I am guessing AoA will be the focus once I am comfortable with my corrected swing.
Wow, thanks so much, I think you really helped an average lay person understand how to use this launch monitor and what these numbers mean. I was OK at setting it up and swinging and see how far it hit my club, which was great, but to know how to actually use the numbers and possibly improve. That makes a big difference. Thanks.
The only question I have is what should my angle of attack be unless I missed that you didn’t really clarify that category to me? Thanks for any more info about it.
Someone else asked the same question. Here's the reply from Kippa: AoA Iron around -3.5-4. AoA Driver is a bit more speed dependent but -1 to 0 for most, up to +5 for fast speeds. Clubpath -5 to +5 is manageable. Clubface as close to 0 as possible as it produces majority of direction.
Awesome video and really helpful!
For club path you mentioned below 5 degrees as desirable. Do you have healthy target metrics or ranges for the other two variables (club face and attack angle) that we should be aiming for to produce relatively straight golf shots?
From the guru, Kippa: AoA Iron around -3.5-4. AoA Driver is a bit more speed dependent but -1 to 0 for most, up to +5 for fast speeds. Clubface as close to 0 as possible as it produces majority of direction. Apologies for the delay in response, Kippa was playing hard to get.
Good stuff.Glad I found your channel.Did you ever test RCT balls with the Garmin?.
Thanks for finding the channel. Re: RTC, no, we haven't. We wanted to test it the way the vast majority would use it, on ranges with range balls. But never say never.
Great presentation and informative
Excellent review. Can you give us the idea numbers for the three matrix you talked about in the view.
AoA ,club face and club path. What should be the high and low degrees? Thank so much

What a fantastic Video which is very well explained. My handicap is one and I think I’m going to buy one
great video ! when looking at the distance metrics of this device, is it better to focus on the total distance or carry ? I assume carry .. ? cheers
Of the 2 distance metrics, it would be Carry. Total takes into account run-off as a result of trajectory and spin so it's a little more arbitrary.
Extremely helpful information on how to best use the Garmin. Thanks!
Bought the R10 in large part bc of this video and what you said about it being accurate on swing path/face angle/angle of attack. My first use today left me extremely disappointed. The data is off for all metrics. I hit one drive that the course monitor was dead on what I saw happen. It had a carry of 215 yds, (which I actually saw), a total of 246 yds (calculated) and a slight draw, within a yard or so of dead on target(which was true because I saw that aspect of the shot. The R10 gave about 215 yds total and 25 yds to the right.
I didn’t bother to check the impact metrics bc even if the metrics supported the 25 yd slice, it didn’t HAPPEN that way. Maybe the bay dividers are causing som interference? The flooring is carpet so maybe it isn’t quite level? I don’t know. I tried adjusting the direction of the unit but it just isn’t consistent. I haven’t given up yet but unless I figure something out Amazon’s 30-day guarantee is going to get implemented.
That's disappointing. We've continued to use the R10 across all our testing, as well as playing around both indoors and out, and have found it to be consistently accurate.
We've found an alignment rod is an important tool in helping set direction (the line on top is very small).
Persist. It will impress. We're sure of it.

I haven’t given up. The area is carpeted and the carpet is textured. I’m going to use a small piece of plexiglass and use an iPhone Level app to get that set. The driving range I use has all Srixon balls that are in good condition so that shouldn’t be a problem. Could the dividers between the hitting areas cause interference?
@@Zerpersande perhaps. Make sure it is set up in line with instructions, particularly distance and alignment. Let us know how you go.

I tried it at a different practice range. I had a piece of string with knots at 6’ to 8’ at 6” intervals so I could get an accurate distance. I used a thin, flat piece of wood and used a level app and pieces of paper to make sure the unit was level. I pulled the string from the ball location back to the unit and adjusted it so it was on the line and then noted the proper target in the distance. I even adjusted the temperature and humidity.
The first ball had the line pretty well displayed and within reason from offline. The second recorded 21 yds right for a ball that was a couple of yards left. My inside-out swing was consistently recorded as outside-in. I tried adjusting the unit but the only consistent aspect was that the unit was inconsistent.
@@Zerpersande have you tried contacting Garmin to ask what else might be happening? That's the logical next step. With the amount of units they sell, there must be an unlucky owner at some stage. Apologies we can't be more help.
Very super informative!
Fantastic video!
Best review of the device so far.
Helps having a 'coaches-eye' view of it. What to do with it is far more important than what it is. Glad you liked it. We did too.
