Shout outs to the couch for managing to make the first 10 minutes of this game interesting
JS Bédard literally passed the 10 minute mark as I read this.
If the next person who runs this doesn't rip a sick melodica solo will it truly even count?
I think they should compete to see who can bring in the most ridiculous instruments to play the song on.
@@chvIry I play it by headbutting bells.
@@demilad225 Imagine if someone rolls up with a whole ass harp or some shit
His solo in the Mikau cutscene was the best moment I’be ever seen in any AGDQ
what about sumichu singing Snake Eater on stage?
Pegron he does it on stream
26:09 quite possibly the most elegant dab I've ever seen. I feel compelled to give you a golf clap.
This GDQ has had the most entertaining runners and couches in a long time imo. It's been a while since I've been this entertained with a GDQ. The Resident Evil and Silent Hill runs were very fun to watch too.
I hope it keeps up this pace.
Just imagine all this from Tatl's perspective.
"What is this child and his dark magic?"
She SAW him get hit with what can only be interpreted as a curse. That’s got to have some residual effects.
The person narrating the donations is so energetic that I felt happy
Amazing runner, that player rocks
Shes always the best dono reader.
Shame they don't really seem to care about said energetic host
@@Faxanadu_ well, most people are more interested in the run than the tear jerk donations. It's a fine Balance, I recall it used to be inundated with almost constant dono readings and they had to adjust the amount of donations read because it was bringing people down and making watching not fun.
I appreciate that in this run when they say that it is a hard trick it is actually hard trick it's really entertaining
The reason the rupees continue over is he still has the stamp on his hand with how much he gave him. So technically going back in time you would've originally had 0 rupees, but the stamp says 60, Link shows the stamp and the dude is like 'Hey you have 60 rupees, here you go'. Basically Link is robbing the bank every time he goes back in time cause of a hand stamp.
Edit: banker is a male, though I always called him a female lol
Wait, the banker is a she?
valr2guy damn, never thought of that, since it was always assumed that the banker is a Timelord. Nice
Don't worry about it. Just don't take any money from the bank in the cycle you beat Majora, and all is fine.
@@Kleavers Idk i've always called them a she, hard to tell
Thats wrong. The Bank guy is aware of time travel and will do anything to support his multi dimensional bank. Because what happens everytime he travels back is that another multiverse is created. He is actually the strongest character ever because not only can he draw rupees from other dimensions, he can also get them from the FUTURE of other dimensions. Essentially he is just a multidimensional time traveler bank.
That run was a marathon miracle oh my god
Why?
@@kjrc1237 I think it is mainly because there is ALOT of place where the game can just give up (crash)
@@kjrc1237 This run is very risky for a marathon. There are like five tricks that are all very difficult and can easily lose minutes. Explosive counts are pretty tight, and a lot of skips cannot be done without them, so you can't misuse too many of them. The final fight is also pretty RNG dependent, and with only four hearts its very easy to die. I run this route. It's hard as shit :(
@@kjrc1237 There were countless times it could have hard crashed and wasted several minutes in total.
@@kjrc1237 Because almost all of the skips were done first try :)
This was a really great video. The donations host singing and doing link noises, mom donating, the melodica playing, the great narrators contextualizing everything and graciously giving eachother genuine kudos for their contributions. What a wonderful community doing great things for people's health and happiness.
31:20 melodica solo. you're welcome.
That quiet "whoa!" when he plays a chord
Thank you I needed to know what that was so bad
+
was hoping for this exact comment, thanks
48:22 poor announcer, that was really funny
...............so he can actually superslide and clip through these snowballs........
they completely ignored that 😂
*casually HESSes into Snowhead Temple*
Me: What.
If you are wondering what a HESS is it is a hyper extended super slide
@@fish-gj9ik If people don't know what a HESS is, knowing what the acronym stands for won't help either. So for those who don't know...
You need a grabbable object and a damage source. Bombs are perfect because they provide both. Hold Z and the shield button and roll towards the grabbable object. Press A to grab the bomb as soon as the option is available. If you take damage at the same time (e.g. by timing the bomb explosion perfectly), the damage will hit your shield and you'll slide backwards really fast. If you hold the control stick at the perfect angle, then you'll be able to use items and maneuver Link around while still keeping your speed.
That announcer looks so happy, her laugh is contagious af
What makes this run so incredibly risky is the game crash that can occur on ANY SS or HESS attempt. Anytime this happens it's an up to 15 minutes time loss.
In that regards: Balls of steel. Glad for him he made it!
So he has to time these SS/HESS with near perfect frame or else the game will crash?
@@KiyokaMakibi yep
Not really frame perfect. Cant imagine he got multiple frame perfect inputs first try.
So, the rationale behind the bank "not obeying the laws of time" is actually incredibly clever. It's a bank, the bank has money in it regardless of whatever money you yourself put in it. Even in real life, when you deposit money and then withdraw money later, it's not the literal same money. So, the only question is why the banker believes you have an account with that much money in the bank.
And, THAT is the reason for the bizarre stamping method of membership. The members have a stamp on them which indicates how much money they have in the bank. Every time you deposit or withdraw money, he restamps you with the new amount you have in the bank. And, every time Link goes back in time, his body is unaltered. Thus, the stamp that indicates how much money he has in the bank remains unaltered. So, he has "proof" that the bank owes him that much money. Thus, he is allowed to withdraw money from the bank despite never having deposited it in the first place.
skip to 28:16 for the best accidental Jerry Seinfeld.
it sounds just like him!
My Dude(s), that was some of the best commentary for a run I've seen. Great run, and well done overall!
actually one of the best runs so far. very in depth and fun to watch. big ups.
"I hope we can get the time down to 1 hour 13 mins in the next few of years"
*a few years later*
WR is 24 mins 26 seconds.
Speedrun starts at 0:00
-0:01.8
Thanks
Hirols Gamer thx for the help temmie I was having trouble watching the video because my brain disappeared
ty
I'm glad there aren't any ridiculous gaps between video starts and game starts anymore like in the last couple of years.
When the time saves were explained, it felt like when Goku showed off super saiyan 1 and 2 before powering up to 3
...TO GO EVEN FURTHER BEYOND!
HYAAAAAA
The explanation thats given at 11:32 makes the game sound like a fever dream.
Omg wtf😂😂😂
This was already a pretty damn good run and then the guy brings out a freaking Melodica and Solos his way through the Song of healing. Holy shit, this is the best speedrun ever.
This was a great run. Amazing couch commentary and runner. Constantly entertaining and great explanations. N64-era Zelda games are such gems, amazing glitches yet remarkably stable at the same time.
good lord time flies, its already been so long since a Majora run was at this event? and they cut down the time by so much!
Sense Majora original yes. The 3ds was run last year.
Exactly. Also there was a (super entertaining) co-op 100% category run of original, in 16 or 17 I think. Phil who is on the couch here was one if the runners.
Since a normal any% yea it's been that long. 100% run was 2016 and all mask run was 2017.
And now a year later MM Any% is only 25 minutes long...
Really love the couch commentary on this run! Those guys have a great chemistry and on-camera presence, they add all sorts of really informative and helpful commentary. This is definitely one of the most informative speedruns I've seen, props to all those guys!
I love watching LoZ speedruns
They're my favorite
Incredible runner and couch
I love when the crowd counted all 20 slashes on Majora at the end.
lol he starts clapping for himself i think he was super in the zone and wasn't thinking about it.
That was a fantastic run to watch and loved the commentary.
Always happy to see LoZ 64 titles at GDQ events!!!
“I think 2019 will be a big year for mm speed runs” bet he didn’t see moon warp coming
Always love seeing a Majora's mask run. My favorite zelda game hands down
His accuracy/precision with the bow during the twinmold fight was just mindblowing. I couldnt aim for shit without lock-on when i played this back on n64 as well as in the 3ds remake.
37:39 I like the glitchy back of the locked door
It’s a shame how the 2k donation almost completely invalidates the $250. No one but the lady announcer acknowledged it.
SeniorSuiki sad
How does it invalidate it? They don't always cheer for donos over $200 and it was right in the middle of explanations.
It's almost as if the donations are for cancer and not acknowledgment.
"Starts slow, shortly after, bursts fast in 1 nanosecond."
Me: "I didn't even stomp on the pedal that much and it's already quite fast. Not quite what I expected, but hey, this IS a Volvo V8 from factory, after all!"
Love hearing kungfufruitcup commentate :D she is amazing and just totally cool as a person its always a joy hearing her read the donos for these runs
The Zelda runs are always my favorite parts of the event! Can’t wait to see this!
it’s so cool seeing someone beat a game in an hour that took me days to finish as a kid lol
this is the first speed run ive ever seen in entirety.. normally i skip through the boring parts but god damn this speed run is truly an art form. This runner is a freaking skilled beast
This is a very good run with great commentary. Let's share this video with Majoras Mask fans.
That was a truly amazing run. GG well played Popesquidward
VERY GOOD RUN 10/10
i watched the whole run. great job! great commentary from the couch too! and kudos to the announcer for getting the donations in! i really enjoyed this mm run. thanks gdq for posting these.
"This is called a mega flip...
It's a backflip that's MEGA"
Why is it that Majora's Mask always has the best runs? Glad it's my fav Zelda title lol. Also "popesquidward" is a great name.
This giggly announcer made my day
3:20 That buttery-smooth unsheathing
31:20 that solo was fire!
It was okay, not a slam dunk but was okay
This dude is the best runner Ive ever seen
I can’t believe the time and effort gone into discovering and exploring trick maneuvers in a run. Impressive and amazing. Brings back memories from playing this when it came out.
Shit. This run was godly! Looking forward to all future runs by Pope! New favorite!
they made mention of a Japan version difference at the Deku palace. i was shocked to find not only a video on youtube of it, but that the removed grottos were VERY unique! its a shame they seemed to have thought it too hard to keep it that way for non-JP versions and even keep it for MM3D.

A GDC speedrun without several minutes of downtime before the start? This never happened before.
Shoutout to dono lady! She killed it and didn't get enough props!
Equip swap was the single greatest thing to ever be found for this run. No more leaving for x minutes to make a sandwich while watching live streams or skipping forward in the video. Now only if we can find a way to skip first cycle.
"You have to complete all temples and then that unlocks being able to go to the moon." Out of context that'd sound so weird! XD
Really wish I could have caught it live, but I was not here. Now I'm ready to sit down and watch this run, really been looking forward to it!
If you think about it, all Majora's Mask playthroughs are speedruns (compared to other games) due to the time limit
LOVED this run.
Lovely musical interlude.
The #getrekt turtles in the woods... brings back so many memories
He murdered this run! Best on I've ever seen good shit my man
Now that's a speed run, loved it. All I can say Wow and Great job.
this was my most anticipated run
Majora's Mask is probably my favourite childhood game. Just for the memories it brought. I was doing speedrunning tricks before speedrunning was that big of a thing. Like when I used to get tired of going in circles not knowing what to do, I'd figure out some precise jumps that just barely allowed Link to grab a ledge, or I'd use a bomb to boost myself over places. My favourite trick I figured out how to do was the Goron pound with the bomb and using it to get over the wall in front of the Great Bay Coast.
I used to think I was a genius, but looking back on it, man I went to some extreme lengths just to achieve something so small.
Oh nice. AGDQ 2019 is here!
I never got past the part where the moon crashes into the city.
1:11:35 donation from Pope's GF lol
Great run!! The host is also great, she has lots of energy!
Incredible run! Loved the keyboard bit during that cutscene. haha
Pope finally finished a run without resetting!
This run was amazing. 1:15 is soon 🙏🏼
Love the melodica
this run is so clutch im so glad this game hasn't been totally solved 64 era games are all so consistent these days
43:11 that lullaby skip was epic
this seemed pretty flawless, nice run
Different And still the WR is five minutes ahead xD
I'm disappointed these guys didn't bring up Ennopp. He's not in the US, but he's a legend for MM, and brought the time down at least 30ish minutes or something crazy.
Edit: Ennopp mention in the credits. Respectable.
Not to mention guys the world record is still an entire five minutes less than this run. Not saying Pope did bad, its great for a marathon run, I'm just adding on how in the beginning they were talking about how much time save has happened over the years and you can add a whole 5 more minutes onto it than what they said. And that was 5 months ago, keep it up Pope and snag that record, your optimization will get there and push that time even lower.
That time when the Great Fairy appears and KungFuFruitcup starts reading them.
3D Zelda speedruns make the game look more like a platformer than an adventurer
1:14:20 2019 was most certainly a big year for MM speed running. Dropping 50 mins off any % is no joke
This runner is absolutely insane
I really like the host. So energetic. Go KungFuFruitcup!
that has to be the greatest name ever
If Majora's Mask was a Tim Burton movie, Johnny Depp would play the Happy Mask Salesman and he would be the main character.
excellent execution in this run

I didn't even notice until I saw this... >_
I'm pretty sure its called a hyper extended stevens slide but imma let it slide
>literally the next day, like 2 days
>tonnes of minutes
13 seconds to kill Odwalla 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Imagine writing a rap based on Ocarina of Time for a Majora's Mask run
This run made me think of Clock town funk
Great run!
Am I correct that this run was only 6 minutes off of WR? That's nuts.
