Runners like xem shouldnt be backup. He is one of the who runners who really enjoys himself and i think that joy transports itselft to the audience

IRL speedrun strat: Saying "New Game Plus" is faster than saying "NG+". It's the same amount of syllables, but having your lips close for the M in "game" leads into the P in "plus" for which you'd have to have your lips closed anyway. Probably only saves like an eighth of a second or so.

Xem is actually made for this, his commentary is spot on, he's super crowd/chat orientated and the people on the couch are actually being insightful and are helping to explain things that casual watchers wouldn't notice.

Fantastic on the mic. Genuinely great to see a speedrunner who can play and commentate at the same time.
Been watching a lot of the VODs from this year and I have to say: this is one of the most entertaining runs I've seen in a while. It's a shame that it was too early for the audience to be fully engaged with it. Xem definitely shouldn't be a backup runner. He is great to watch run. Plus, the fact that he's making donations for every death in a game where he intentionally dies frequently is awesome. Overall great run and I hope to see more of Xem at AGDQ in the future
I played a shitload of UYA like 9 years ago, haven't played it in a few years and never have seen a speedrun of it. This shit just blew my mind completely. Great work!

Wow. One of my favorite games when I was younger. I also was not prepared for that wonderful vibrato. Brilliant run, brilliant singing.

Why is the game faster on German ? I mean i am German so i always play it on German settings so i cant understand why it changes the speed.

It's not a big save individually, but it adds up over time.
Impressive run of r&c3, though find it ironic that the ps3 version is only good for speed-running because the port screws up some interactions lol.
nah it has faster loads and less lag on the quick select for example

Does playing in German make the game faster?
Actually yes, enough to make a difference anyway. The German text boxes fill quicker and can be exited sooner thanks to translation.

why is the game in german?
Talked about in the run. Different languages and their respective text can change how fast the game can be run. Xem said the game has flipped on languages before as runners tried different things, for this German was apparently the fastest
the language is faster in some cases. so unskippable cutscenes are cut shorter due to less time to put out the words.. if that makes sence
Lots of games a played in other languages for speed runs. Usually, text boxes fill up word-by-word and so certain languages will fill up faster. If there are spoken cutscenes, sometimes a certain language has faster cutscenes too because it is spoken faster or with less words. In either case, since text boxes and cutscenes count towards time, it's important to minimize the time these parts take. Playing on a different version would essentially be a time handicap
