Spot on with this topic. While you may think it’s not exciting, it’s very informative. As I’ve mentioned, I have the 4 lane AFX Super international. Three pieces of track had defective raised rails. Racemasters customer service has been fantastic in getting the replacement parts to me.
For me, super gluing the track is not an option as I occasionally like to change it up. I like the clips. Currently, I use black gorilla tape across the oustide of the problem joints. No one notices. I also file or dremmel the tops of the rail ends so that there is a smooth transition between tracks. It's surprising how much faulty track you get, but with a little care, you can really make it quiet.
Very informative. I understand that you an many of the commentors have less permanant tracks that you like to change. Mine is an all AFX 4 lane track with 18" and 15" radius turns. I use either Woodland Scenics or Hobby Lobby Foam Tacky Glue to hold the track down and keep it from moving. It looks like Elmer's glue but dries less stiff and clear and can be removed without damaging the track or tavle. I have not had very good luck with using the holes on the track and small brads/nails. I used Dry Wall Spackling from a squeeze tube (available at Home Depot or Lowes) on the corners between the inside and outside curve pieces to fill the gaps. I let it dry then sand down smooth with 300+ sand paper. If you ever need to take up the curves the spackling can be removed using denatured alcohol. Makes for very smooth drifting. I do the same thing you do for bumpy track joints. With patience and work you can make even a large sectional track smooth as silk. BTW, the TRACK CLIPS are LIFE SAVERS! Thanks again for posting!
