I’ll be making some short vids about how to have fun casually racing slot cars at home. The whole point will be about having fun and avoiding the pitfalls most beginners and returnees to the slot car racing hobby often experience.

$100 HO Slot Car Find - A great way to start? Maybe!
Просмотров 57728 дней назад
I recently purchased this slot car track, cars & accessories on Facebook Marketplace for $100. I usually suggest purchasing a new set but occasionally a large selection of good track shows up and you may want to consider it instead of a new race set. BUT buyer beware. I explain why this may be a good choice and some pitfalls of buying used HO slot car items.
Texas Legend - Wonderful Jim Hall Chaparral Book

This is a fantastic book on a subject I find fascinating: the Chaparral race cars of the 60s. These race cars were years ahead of everyone and had a mystic surrounding them. This book finally tells the story of these great American race cars.

Good advice !
@3ATGL Thanks!
You needed to put a tiny bit of oil on the rear tires for them to hook up.
excellent advice. love these videos.
@Chris65018 Thanks for the comment & I’m glad to hear you like it
Excellent video!! You always break it down so nicely and that's what will help draw and keep people in the hobby! Race on! 🫡
@nobodyshome Thanks. I appreciate the comment.
good knowledge and tips, could you heat the warped tracks to get them straight?
@41-willys99 Thanks. I’m not sure if you could straighten a warped track.
The first slot car, amt white-that is 1/25scale drag car? Is this still for sale?
The white car is not a drag car, it was made in 1966 for racing on a large commercial track. These came fully assembled with a large motor and a brass chassis. I’m sorry it is long gone.
Please show the cars that come with the set.
I been using my life like slot cars on the auto world set with the adjustable voltage they run like charm!
@760RCs Thanks for the comment. I’m glad to hear it’s working well for you.
Great point with Rhythm. Rhythm AND Driver style = FUN
Love the video, love the topic. Getting ready to start a 4 lane HO track. Wanting rhythm , simplicity, and fun.
@Chris65018 Thanks! Sounds like you’ll be having fun soon.
Definitely good info that is rarely discussed. Rhythm is vitally important for longevity of your interest in the hobby. Great topic and video! 🫡
@nobodyshome758 Thanks! I wasn’t sure how this video would turn out but thought it was an interesting topic that nobody talks about.
As an old beginner, this is brilliant information !
@3ATGL Thanks that’s great to hear.
Excellent video on this topic!
@All-ScaleSlotCarDen Thanks! I appreciate your comment. Kind of a tough topic to cover.
Hello-In your "Secrets of Slot Car Racing #20 - WIP Portable Slot Car System," you have the optimized track layout. It looks great! I was wondering if you have a track plan available. I just purchased the chicane pieces, and now I would like to gather up the remaining pieces, but I am not sure what I need. Also, could the turns at the end of the straight be configured like those of your gray portable track? Thanks!
@3ATGL I can make you a quick hand drawn plan. I’ll post it on Home Racing World but give me a day to get around to it. Here: www.hrwforum.com/forum/hrw-scale-forums/hrw-ho-scale
@@nitromancer6460 Thanks !
I am registered now.
@@3ATGL I just posted this. I apologize for not getting to it sooner www.hrwforum.com/forum/hrw-scale-forums/hrw-ho-scale/264534-my-track-layout
@@nitromancer6460 Thanks ! I just downloaded it. The plan will be a big help.
Very cool collection of runners. Those Panteras are fire. Thanks for sharing.
@EHzRacingCollecting The Road Race Replica Pantera is very well done. They are still available for reasonable prices here: www.jaghobbies.com/ho_slot_cars/rrr_cars_cart.htm
I don't have have the auto world 4 gears but i love aurora 4 gear cars they drift grate.I am sure the new ones are really GOOD with the magnets Thanks for the vid
@marktorsiello I agree, the Aurora 4-gear cars are excellent fun and still hold their own today!
Great subject and good job. One thing I would add - Throw it away before the piece of track drives you crazy. Every once in a while a piece of a track just won't fit. Have a supply of used tracks available as replacements.
@Paul-k6w Yes get rid of that problem piece - I just mentioned this in a video I posted today.
I'm always telling my wife, "When you're taking a video, look through the camera." I appreciate you and what you're helping with. I have a Thunderjet that doesn't run and I want to get it running.
The LapCounter doesn't show in my Android apps list, is it iPhone ? 😊.
They definitely are fun to race and extremely pleasing to the eye. I just did a review of my latest a.w. 4 gear acquisitions yesterday. Thank you for giving them the props they deserve 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼😊🚗🚗⚡️✨️🔥
Thanks! I’m glad you agree. Those cars are great!
Where did you find that variable transformer power supply?
@carlosguvetis9347 I bought it on eBay. I have heard they are out is stick for now and hard to obtain at the moment. But there are plenty of 0 to 30 volt 5 (or 10 amp) power supplies available that would work great.
Where did you get the grandstands?
@drcivicman1 Those grand stands were made a long time ago & I bought a bunch of stuff locally Here’s a video I did on it: m.ruclips.net/video/YjbFNOvQmYE/видео.html
This brings back some memories! I loved running the original T-jets back in the 1960's. Didn't have magnets or easy access to soft Silicone tires. We had the Hard rubber tires, which were garbage, and then we had some Sponge tires, which were an improvement. Wild Ones, Tuff Ones, and then AF/X. think I won more races by driving slow, and letting everyone else fly off the track. We should have ran with less Volts, but none of us knew anything about how to reduce the voltage. When Magna-traction came along, I was discovering Motorcycles and Girls, and didn't run too much more, but I kept all of my track and cars. Got back into it in the early 1990's, and stuck with it until the early 2000's, then hung up my Controllers for good. Still have all of my Cars and a ton of parts and pieces, and maybe I'll drag them out again, but at 70, for me they are better as memories. However, it was fun to watch this video, and remember working on my cars and tracks.
I hear you! It sounds like you had some great times in the hobby.
These Opels were Buick's Division alternatives to the Chevrolet Vega and used the same basic structural body hardware with front fenders, the roof from the front doors forward and windshield and rear fenders and wheel arches shared with the Vega.
I saw Jim Hall win in his Chaparral in about 1965 at Riverside Raceway. Loved the power and sound of his Chevy powered cars.
@lennyharp Pretty fantastic that you saw these legendary cars run.
I also like carney display cases I have a couple of them. I like the mirrored background because the cars show better. When one is filled you are challenged to fill up another. Thanks for posting.
Nice display case for your slot cars👍
I got my first 4 gear for Christmas. I was pretty impressed. Runs better than the xtraction I think
Nice collection and case. I too, think I would prefer one without the mirrored background though. I think it would give me more options as to where and how to display the case itself. Thanks for sharing.
You’re welcome
really nice collection .liked and subbed
Appreciate the support!
hello! do you still have this car ? If so do you mind taking pictures of your engine because I have the same type of car (1976 2002 auto) but i have many parts missing and trying to see exactly what i need to get my car up and running....thank you!
@MUGA-h6b My friend still has this. I suggest you check out BMW2002FAQ.com I’m sure you’ll find the help you need there
They look great. I visited their website and was impressed with a few other of their offerings. Thanks for the resource.
@EHzRacingCollecting You’re welcome, I’m saving for some of their next offerings.
Hi yes I have several of those also and yes .. when your just starting out yes all the different names can get confusing .. They do run pretty good ... even the super III's are on the fast side and run nice . Thanks for sharing I,m a tyco collector/lover ha but Auto World definitely has it's space in the hobby
Thanks. The Tyco cars are fantastic! I think the 440-X2 is/was just a great car to race either casually or seriously.
Hi. Love your channel. I just resently got back into HO Slot cars. These Indy cars are extremely cool. I’m very interested in finding a few. Would be interested in the entire set if it’s available. Can you give me any info on where to find these?
@thenostra-ramos9384 Thanks. These cars are cool. Dave Wonacott sells these on Facebook- you need to send him a message. He has made a few more sets. I love these but don’t use them on the track. I have set #1 and I’d sell them for what I paid (total $450 or $225 per set of 4). These cars are super fast, you’ll probably need to turn the voltage way way down. You can contact me via this Craigslist ad: detroit.craigslist.org/okl/tag/d/pontiac-aurora-ho-slot-car-garage/7816446956.html
4Gears auto world cars do run well, sometimes better than the Xtractions. All n all auto world cars are good. They may require some tuning and that’s ok. Have fun and keep going
I agree. I’ve had good luck with them, they’re fun cars.
Do you have any pics or product number on the timing system you are using ?
@customizer007 That is a Japanese market AFX lap timer & counter that was available around 1990 or so. They are very straightforward to use but kinda expensive on eBay. I looked and did not see any. But I normally use LapTracker app on my phone: I needed my phone to make the video.
You’re absolutely right my friend. Thanks for sharing your knowledge👍
Thanks.
I agree those chassis do run good . AW did well on these cars
Cool 😎
looks like you found a terrific deal my friend thanks for sharing your find
Thanks for checking it out.
I would like to get that pit garage from you if you want to sell it?
@RobertSchkildt-vt8yw You can have it. I made this Craigslist ad (with silly high price) and you can contact me via that ad. detroit.craigslist.org/okl/tag/d/pontiac-aurora-ho-slot-car-garage/7816446956.html
I wish those structures would get dropped! I would love to get a few of those pit garages!
Nice haul! How much do you want for the 32 Ford? I am interested in buying it if you want to sell it 😎🏎🏁
@GBud14 Thanks. I regret to inform you I sold all the cars right after I made this video. I must have priced it all too cheap because I had four guys contact me immediately after I posted them on Facebook marketplace. But it’s pretty cool to get some of my “investment” back and they’re happy too.
Great find. !!! I also agree with you, if you are getting back into the hobby, new is the way to go.
@Chris65018 Thanks. It can get laborious and frustrating getting some of the old stuff that I remember so fondly to function properly. But occasionally a good find presents itself.
Sweet Deal! Stands with people and garage alone is worth it. A nice haul.
@thedude4321 Thanks. It’s not too often that a nice haul presents itself and I hope this helps some guys identify one or avoid the frustrations of most of the stuff out there.
The tips you mentioned in this video are priceless.
Thanks.
Just getting back into the hobby after a very long layoff. I very much enjoyed seeing what was out there. I did not realize Matchbox made slot cars. Thank You
@Paul-k6w I appreciate your comment. This video is now a year old but still relevant. I hope you’re having fun. The Matchbox slot cars & track are not compatible with most current and vintage tracks.
Do not use Dremel!!!
Excellent information. I'm 4 months into the hobby and am interested in collecting as well as racing and customizing and this was a real helpful video.
@EHzRacingCollecting You should be having lots of fun. It’s a golden age for slot cars right now.
Saw my first tub track in the December 1966 Popular Science feature on slot car racing. Been in love with them every since. Thanks for posting!
You’re welcome!
excellent video
@Chris65018 Thanks. Being able to adjust the voltage is a revelation!
