I’ll be making some short vids about how to have fun casually racing slot cars at home. The whole point will be about having fun and avoiding the pitfalls most beginners and returnees to the slot car racing hobby often experience.

Even though these have excessive tarnish it is simple to clean them and make them look and work as good as new. We can save these barn find vintage HO slot cars by giving them their first wash in fifty years.
Barn Find 1972 Opel 1900 Sedan (aka Ascona) 19,900 miles Preserved & Runs
Просмотров 36Месяц назад
This 1972 Opel 1900 has been well preserved for over 50 years. These affordable cars were made by GM and sold rather unenthusiastically at Buick dealers. It is rare to see one today especially so well preserved. I forgot to show it starting & running.

I went to check out a car and the gentleman had this very well preserved 1936 Plymouth. He is now the 3rd owner and he tracked down some of the history of this “barn find”. This 90 year old car starts and run still.

My times: Modified AFX MagnaTraction 13.38 seconds (best lap 2.49), Auto World 4 Gear 11.32 (best 2.17), Aurora Thunder Jet 20.58 (best 3.98), modified Thunder Jet 18.18 (best 3.49).

Brad Keselowskis championship was called the Sprint Cup at the time and Ryan Newman won the 2008 Daytona 500 not the Indy 500
Ooops! You are correct. I knew that too. Not sure what I was distracted by.
I could not afford one of these on my paper route salary.
@jettadixer7 Yep it was paper route & lawn mowing cash for sure. I would not have gotten mine except I ordered stuff from Auto World and got a credit voucher and not a refund! If I didn’t have that voucher I wouldn’t have gotten mine.
Tip for anyone who sees this and wants to make your cars run very even and not wanting to buy a lot of performance parts to do so. Get 4 or more chassis that run fairly close to one another. Check the armature ohms if you have a meter- 16 + or 17+ ohms will be your best. Then check all tolerances and parts fitments, then obtain more idler gears (Aurora AFX or T-jets) and AFX magnets(they come in all strengths so best to measure the strength of each regardless of colors) and begin the process of swapping parts (first the magnets and idler gears {the black AFX(non mag) and TUFF ONES idler gears are preferred} and if you have just one it will be a good base test gear, but some of the brass do well also(mark them diff colors to know which is which good/fast, medium or bad/slow) -- and then you can buy very nice idlers from DASH which are very inexpensive, one of the best and congruent in performance) .. and now running two chassis together in front of one another and swap parts to see if they get to be about the same speed at higher speeds(they may and most likely will be different at slower speed . also using the same size and brand silicone tires. Enjoy -Slot on !
Nice Find And A Fair Deal . I Just Subbed. The Slot Car Stuff. I Got Those Controllers Today . One Worked Perfect Right out Of the Box . The Other Russkiy I Had to Use One of the Tyco Resistors. But That's Fine. Just Took A While to Do . ( Figure out) . All Set Though. Still Have Extra Tyco Controllers if Needed . So I'm Happy. Thanks for The offer You Made BTW ! But I'm Good. 😊
@wayneo7307 I’m Glad to hear the one controller worked well for you. It’s nice having adult sized controllers.
@@nitromancer6460 They Both Work Good Now.
White vinegar and salt also works in the cleaning process. I do not like to use a dremel in my recon process. I have not tried Simple green but I wiil.
Sounds like you made a fair offer because that is a lot of model motoring track there with the cars! I guess you offered therm about double.
@tvtoms Oh I got it all for $125, a bit more would still have been ok, I didn’t expect the bodies to be that good.
I use tarn x and get the same results in about a minute
@Gbud14 Yes you are right and I forgot to mention using TarnX, which is just acid. The simple green is just easier to deal with because it isn’t acid and not toxic, it’s much easier to dispose of too.
Great find those old aurora cars thx for knowledge 😊
Glad you like them!
Nice haul, can you tell me the exact brand name and model of the ultrasonic cleaner-TY
@jcgaragejohnc.5207 I kept the box! It says Jalen Gabor A5 Mini Cleaning Machine It has a bar code label which says: X003 3KL 1 O4D I bought on eBay but it was too long ago for the details to be retained
@@nitromancer6460 TY SIR
Wow,,, I could get crazy buying here,, great show..
take out the magnet
@jarheads88 I was thinking I need to try that
excellent video !!!!!!
@Parry635 Thanks, I’m happy to hear you like my modest video
great advice.
Thanks
Thanks for This .
You're welcome
Yeah Well , I Thank You For The Idea . Not Everyone Can Afford What The Other Controllers Cost ! Plus I Too Have Big Size Hands . I'm Running Autoworld Cars on A Older Tyco Track They Run Perfect. But The Controllers Are Small . So If I Find the Older AFX Aurora Controllers Cheap Enough. I Will Try This . Do the Tyco Have The Same Resistors As The 120 Ohm New Aurora AFX ? Anyways Whatever the Resistance is In My Controller is Perfect. Just Would Also Like The Old Size Controller.
@wayneo7307 I apologize for the late reply but I just noticed your comment. I think if you find the Aurora “RussKit” controllers that are yellow and are the ones that use screws to hold them together you’ll be pretty pleased with them. Note: the ones without screws are smaller like your Tycos. The yellow ones are typically 45 ohms which will work well with Auto World cars. An adjustable voltage power supply is also a nice upgrade, it allows you to tune the speed of your cars to the size of your track and skill of your racers.
@wayneo7307 I have an Aurora controller that you can have if you pay for postage (or can pick it up). You can contact me via this Craigslist ad; detroit.craigslist.org/okl/tag/d/drayton-plains-afx-slot-car-controller/7785495847.html
@@nitromancer6460 Thanks. No Apologies Necessary. I'm Just Glad You Answered Me . I'm One Of the Guys Getting Back into the Fun After Years of Not Doing It. @@nitromancer6460 Thank You Sir for the Special Offer But I'm Good.
Based on the Daytona platform.
These look well made, Will have to get in the near future
The trucks would be great for customizing
Thankfully GM in america didn't intervene much in opel developments and production lines otherwise they would be a disaster 😭
@sen_1504 Agreed. This cars design was overseen by a yank, Chuck Jordan, who go on to head GM design.
Very cool truck,, I would like to get a few of them
@John-el8dy I thought they were very cool. You can contact Robert at: Rberry1967@hotmail.com
I Think That Truck Came Out Nice. And It Is Cool ! I Did Have the Aurora Dump Truck as A Kid. I Remember It Had Dual Slot Pins One on Each End . How I Remember I Don't know Other Than It Was The Only Car With One .
@wayneo7307 It’s great & I’ve never had a truck before.
I love the trucks. Nicely done.
@busterkurtz1835 Thanks. I probably should have detailed it and run it for the video. But I thought that would take me too long to get around to it.
Like Harry at HomeRacingWorld said about no-mag Ninco Classics - Twice the fun at half the speed!
My brother had these and it was lots of fun upgrading the cars. I just bought the AW Victory 400 set and loving it after a 50 year hiatus from slot cars
I just started collecting and the Aurora cars are $50 on EBay now
👍
awesome! Nice group of muscle.
I'm looking for the Plymouth Trim piece, that goes across the bottom of the trunk. Anybody got one,?
@mycoalamana414 I have an extra, it’s not perfect. I’ll put an ad up on Craigslist in Detroit
I had a 73 in the Early to Mid 80's , Loved that car!
Thanks for sharing. 1. we shim the magnets, simply add tape behind the magnet to shim the slop out and pushes it closer to the arm for more power, and second they dont fall out. 2. we would clean the comm and brushes with pink eraser. then lube with Aurora red racing lube (very little, came in a 1 oz tiny jar, and its pretty thick), and oil the arm shaft, gears and shaft with ball bearing oil (zero issue of it getting on the comm). 3. You forgot to check pick up shoe wear and correct if necessary, and clean them with pink eraser.
great video
Nice ride - I've been looking for the rear top spears for my 66.....
@zb1083 I think I may have some. You can contact me via this Craigslist ad detroit.craigslist.org/okl/pts/d/pontiac-1966-plymouth-valiant/7759040649.html

@shiftintohigh5564 I’m not sure I’m cool but I was able to slip into this event.
Cool car you have !
@thedude4321 Thanks, it’s a fun car but it’s not a fast car.
@nitromancer6460 To me it's not about speed it's about a good looking car
Nice car 🚘
@blueovalracing1582 Thanks
Make sure for your official races you’re using the phone apps with the flying start or your first lap will be slower and ruin your overall time.
Have any footage of the red F355 Berlinetta that was there? I believe it was a 97

Your turns are 18Inch radius.
@johndoub1030 Yes 18” radius curves. That’s what the virtual racing group is doing. They also are using a different layout with 9” turns. And they also will be using the Auto World “four gear” XTraction cars.
Love these races. Look forward to the next one. Thanks for sharing!
More to come!
I am racing on the oval and El Broko in the virtual club, nice to see your races.
@manchildmotorsport3531 This is such a cool concept. I wanted to show how basic my setup is, it doesn’t really take much. I hope this helps other join in.
@@nitromancer6460 Yes, I love it. I don't have anyone local to race, so this brings that joy into it for me.
I dont use the brake control for any of my racing. I like your cars and your controller! Thank you for helping us find more racers!
I hope this helps everyone.
What a homely front end 😂
@classic287 it really looks like they ran out of time or budget. The ‘66 Barracuda is just a mess too with a similar center with horizontal grill and side grill that have a really nice egg crate look but they clash.
I am rebuilding the same car. There was only about 2500 Signet Convertibles built in 1966. I want, and have collected, the same options as yours. I agree with you about finding the trim for a Signet, because I see you need the same Trim piece across the bottom of the Trunk lid, with the Valiant call out. Maybe someone could contact us with one?
@mycoalamana414 glad to hear I’m not the only one. It’s really a wonderful car and it’s great having something unique. There wonderful support on the ForABodiesOnly.com forum - you should join if you haven’t already.
I want to do something like this but live.
@slotcarsandhotrains That’s a great idea.

they sell 1/4 inch sheets or hardboard that are not very expensive, but the cardboard works fine too.

Nice, you have me beat LOL
Are you on Facebook? You should be racing with us.
@@StingrayJohnnysSlotCarTi-ob2ot I am racing in the oval and El Broko if that is what you are talking about.
@@manchildmotorsports3531 awesome.
Lovely looking car imo, but the cam in head engine is a slug. The chassis rails are very close together so getting a v8 in is very tight, a straight six would be a better option. The gearbox is tiny and so is the tunnel and the back axle is an oddball too. Do your research before you decide to hot rod a manta A would be my advice.
@jaws6869 I agree, but these are really low compression engines and have a lot of potential for improvement. The best place to start is Opel GT Source Here’s their Manta catalog: opelgtsource.com/system/notes/files/000/000/004/original/04OpelMantaDigitalIndex.pdf?1540358579
