Plenty of anime/manga don't have fanservice but 'josei' isn't as popular as shoujo/shounen/etc. But there has been series that has depicted like assault and sex work/prostitution in a more serious/non fanservicey way too but it's not talked about as often/not as popular as the more action-y stuff or rom coms that have stories, but don't get super deep since some writers don't always touch on those subjects (like, if there was some more lgbt anime, some ppl would either complain about it being fetishizing or not being 'gay enough')
Unironically, I had a fake argument with a AI chatbot about this yesterday, and even the AI made the argument that enjoying fictional characters is merely surface level attraction, whereas with real people the amount of emotions and responsibilities are so much more deep.

You don’t get to pull the “death of the author” card until the author loses control or purposely gives up control of their work. Fanfiction writers and fan artists are functioning on borrowed privilege.
Why the hell is it that people are able and willing to separate fictional violence from real violence, yet when it comes to pretty much anything else whether it be sex, fanservice, politics, etc. it means that you support that thing in real life. It really is fucking insane. The whole "loli leads to real pedos" crap is stupid and I'm pretty sure objectively wrong with many studies and stuff showing the exact opposite. Seriously, it's just straight up the violent video game arguement. Also, as much as I don't like generalizing, I really can't help but think of the "hardcore anti's are often the real creeps" thing. Also, one thing I've learned from Welcome to the NHK is that a lot of people tend to like things specifically BECAUSE they're fictional. Again, just look at violent movies and video games.
You're not the only one who thinks "hardcore antis are the real creeps." These "This you?"/"Your likes are public" situations happen so often that any time a Twitter freak goes this hard against anime in that manner, I start getting concerned about what could be lurking in that loser's hard drive.
Its reaching to assume people who consume FICTIONAL lolicon content as pedo But its a start to see how they behave online or IRL The good example for this is "nick bates" for 5 year people just think he's trolling & joking, but in the end, he is a bonafide pedophile with confirmed victim in his vicinity Anime consumer are accused as sicko these days because people from lolcow community is prowling in anime community as tourist or usual consumer then they start accusing any noisy social media user who consume lolicon content as pedophile so they can make content for them for... money? The hypocritical thing is Marin is a teenager (a fictional one but she’s a teenager not a child) and there are many people who will complain about her being sexualized but consume and enjoy high school dramas where all the teenagers are being sexualized.
I was always mystified how Dress Up Darling exploded in popularity considering its unapologetic ecchi content. Like, for actual anime fans it makes sense but way too many tourists who usually cry "male gaze" were Marin posting.
>person thinks the work is pedophilic >person think it's fine to consume the work they see as pedophilic as long as they're aware of it These look like red flags to me.

"It's just fiction" isn't an excuse. It's the truth. The little anime girl giving it to the other little anime girl isn't real. No real person is being harmed in the making, distribution, or viewing of the material. The same way no one is harmed by Sub-Zero ripping out Scorpion's spine. No, fiction doesn't impact reality. If YOU see lewd lolis, and YOU start thinking about doing bad things to kids or acting on those thoughts, the fault is with YOU and YOUR failure to tell a collection of pixels from a real living person.
Isn’t this the same argument they use when saying violent video games or movies cause people to commit crimes? Which has been disproven WAY to many times to count. A few red flag they pointed out. Hypocrisy, reality is not equal to fiction, and literally prove that short people who look youthful when they are adult exist. It's like they're trying to appeal to their friends or others around, or afraid to be judged.
This is mostly teenagers arguing with each other. That’s why the arguments are shallow and stupid. Adults don’t typically let themselves get caught ripping on art featuring prepubescent children while having post-pubescent teen characters in their likes. Teenagers, however, will usually not see the hypocrisy until it’s pointed out - teens who have thought it through usually are already on the side of not giving a crap about loli art being on the internet.
yeah most petty hypocritical adults would have a weeb alt account and denounce it on their main because they are aware of their hypocrisy instead of keeping both sides in one account lmao
Yes, systemic child abuse is typically performed by adults, wonderful of you to notice. They just do it and go "eh, if teenagers have a problem being abused, just disassociate, it's a common PTSD defense". And the abused children DO. But I don't expect you to grasp literacy well enough to understand what LITERAL means. Because it is. You aren’t killing enemies in games because you want to be violent but because you want points and the next level but what do people want when they want to see minors sexualized? They want to be pleasured by it they want it because they get off to it. That’s the difference.

May I ask how many people are of the "I don't see what I don't like" type? It is a genuine doubt to see how many of us are of this way of thinking today
The first time we see of the loli character in my dress up darling was a fan service shower scene of her so that claim the twitter user made about dropping anime’s with loli characters was a complete lie.

It's bad when it's gotten to be point where you can't look up the term "loli" nothing else, just "loli" alone, and you get a warning about protecting children and that child pornography is bad. Like yes, we know it's bad, "loli" on it's own isnt pornography. "Loli" isn't even a child.

I'm actually a person who sincerely loves anime at its best but doesn't like fanservice above a certain level. I am totally down with showing female in characters in underwear and bikinis as long as they aren't too revealing, but nudity is something I am not comfortable with and outfits can be too revealing for me. I admit that I even call extreme fanservice the "bane of anime" but you know what? I've found a significant amount of anime without extreme fanservice in them thanks to looking up series on review sites that talk about the content and there are others that despite some nudity in them are otherwise really good or at least keep instances of extreme fanservice to bad episodes as well as some where a bit of extreme fanservice is the least of the series problems. But over the years although I still don't like it and wish that there were more anime series without extreme fanservice in them, I absolutely do NOT believe that series with extreme fanservice in them shouldn't exist. I have learned to to complain and respect the people who enjoy them, they are just not for me. And at least the vast majority of anime is honest, not like all the American-produced garbage that ruin beloved franchises then insult you when you don't like them.
@@jzpowell2108 Thanks. Reviews have really helped me avoid anime with too much fanservice, and even when series I watch have more fanservice than mentioned in reviews and/or content guides I find something to like or even a lot to love and ultimately don't regret buying them.
We Americans are a lot less comfortable with nudity than most of the rest of the world. It's not a bad thing, but you just have to get used to it or take steps to avoid it. Personally, I don't mind "Gainaxing" because it bothers me to see a body moving like it's made out of plastic. Then again, I might have been influenced by "jiggle shows" in the 70's. 😂
Can these people stop comparing real kids to fictional characters that doesn't exist. So by their dumb logic to them, I'm a child because I'm a short women that looks young.
Some of these dinguses *have.* I, for example, am apparently "minor-coded" to them because I barely push 5'6" even though I've been going grey since I was 17 and have a full beard. The freckles may not help, either.
I'm convinced that anime tourists not only constantly whine about fanservice for easy clout but they also think that if they complain about it enough times on social media, they'll somehow be able to change the anime industry to their puritan standards
They are so deluded if they actually believe that. They fail to realize that this is Japan with a different kind of society and different culture and if there's anything that Japan ignores the most are demands that come from foreigners. They keep forgetting that Japan is not the west where bitching and moaning on social media makes the companies be all like "Oh I'm so sorry, I'm gonna do what you want." Japan is a strictly conservative country and the only way for it to see change is if the japanese population does something. All of us, on the other hand, are only just a noise to the Japanese. They can appreciate us if we openly enjoy their products, but they will never change just because some people make claims that what they do is "problematic." So these people can make negative takes about anime, criticising it either constructively or harshly all they want... they are only wasting their time. It's a different culture and you can either respect it, for what it is, or ignore it.
I find it funny that they will drop ANY series that have loli's in them, but then they watch ouran highschool host club, which has a very obvious shota in it. Shouldn't the same standards apply to boys as well? That in itself is very hypocritical. (Sorry for my english)
What they don't understand about Marin's character is how she breaks stereotypes and expectations. I love Gyaru fashion. Gyaru are often depicted as stupid, vain and superficial, acting like bullies towards the main characters while they are shamed for being proud of their sexuality and fashion sense. Gyaru as a whole is a political statement where girls reject the beauty standards of traditional Japan (example: pale skin, modest clothing, black hair, submissive personality). Marin Kitagawa at first glance looks stupid and selfish, even Gojo at first feared she would make fun of him for his love for Hina Dolls, but she surprises us by being a caring, genuinely nice person who respects everyone's hobbies and detests those who disrespect the happiness of others. She is sweet and cheerful and true to herself and pushes Gojo to do the same. She is free in her sexuality and her hobbies and doesn't care what others think of her as long she is happy and fulfilled. This is what makes Marin so beautiful and such a good character, she breaks stereotypes yet still embraces what Gyaru really is, being who you are and rebelling against expectations. Marin being sexual is important to her character IMO.

It’s not the exact same but yes, anime that includes pedophilia/things like that does affect children, this is coming *from experience*. This debate can go on and on but everyone has their own opinion and clearly hers/other peoples differ from yours. She uses her platform to experience her opinions/share media she enjoys and defending things she is passionate about, not to be attacked by people like you? Do you realize the influence you have on your 600k subscribers,, they go after people and attack them when you post stuff. You took a lot of stuff and ran with it and made up insane takes about her that just aren’t true? So, could she have worded things better? 100%. But you going after her and making insane takes, taking things out of proportion and being so harsh on her was not necessary. Obviously not everyone is going to agree with each others opinions but there was no need to attack her, she did nothing wrong that warranted all this harassment. Just please realize the effect you have on others and consider censoring names in the future to minimize the extreme harassment people face because of you 👍
I agree with this 🙏 It's sick to see so many people going after her for stating her opinion, there's no point to use your platform to bully someone because they wanted to share their passion. Marin is just a bunch of pixels, there's no need to go THIS far
No one made up insane stuff about her? She was just caught being a hypocrite. She said sexualizing minors and simping for underage anime characters is wrong, while she proceeds to consume content that sexualizes minors. Not only that, but she proceeds to simp for some of these said characters. You can't simp for 15 year old anime girls, only I can type of behavior. Look, I don't condone harrasment either, but we gotta call her bullshit out. By hiding her name how are people gonna call her bullshit out? You litterally can't. One way ticket to avoid critism, for your wrong takes. Plus, I highly doubt anyone is actually harassing her, but okay. People tend to make up lies and what not when they're under critism to avoid said critism.
These are the same people who say video games make people violent, which was disproven and retracted, but nobody talks about the fact that the news articles were later retracted, on the back page of the news that almost no one reads.
A real fan of MDD, which I've been interacting with because she gets MDD, made a sarcastic tweet showing how it sounds like to be a "fan" saying that Marin has to be "saved" from her own series. The type of "fan" that came for the fanservice and stayed to see how far it goes to criticize it. The type of "fan" that would say that the story would not change if it were set in college. The "fan" that loves Marin but sees Gojo as the loser male MC. A real fan, like the one mentioned at the beginning, will take no slander against Gojo, and both love Marin and Gojo for what they are. And she opened my eyes to the fact that, despite the shoujo aesthetic of the art, the series is a shounen.
This is why Movies/Anime/Cartoon should bring back the old school disclaimer that says, " This is a work of Fiction..." for those people living in the internet.
The hypocrisy and lack of self-awareness is always so staggering. I wish they'd realize how dangerous and reckless it is to water down VERY SERIOUS terms like "pedophile". That is NOT a word you can just throw around like candy!
Mother of God, we even have rare instances of people publicly calling THEMSELVES pedos/child-diddlers while streaming games on platforms like Twitch merely for clout. Something that a lot of people don’t understand is that the FBI and local law enforcement already have too much on their plates when it comes to tracking and apprehending predators. There are ALREADY more actual predators than the police can deal with. The idea of them also having to keep track of lolicons, even though that’s not gonna go anywhere most of the time, on top of that is completely absurd.
I never understand when people say that fictional characters ages should be respected in general. Somebody like Marin in the video is drawn with the body of an adult woman, but is labeled 15 by the author. The eye test tells me that's an adult, so if you enjoy sexual content with her that's totally fine. But sure, if we go by that assigned age, then assigning a loli vampire an age over 1000 years old means that character should be totally okay to sexualize. Those people should agree to that statement. But of course, this makes no sense. People should be allowed to enjoy any adult content they want to so long as it doesn't harm others.

I agree with this 🙏 It's sick to see so many people going after her for stating her opinion, there's no point to use your platform to bully someone because they wanted to share their passion. Marin is just a bunch of pixels, there's no need to go THIS far
Its not ok to harass her. But it is perfectly ok to hold her words accountable and point out the hypocrisy.
People don't know what "literal" means
The hypocrisy and lack of self-awareness is always so staggering. I wish they'd realize how dangerous and reckless it is to water down VERY SERIOUS terms like "pedophile". That is NOT a word you can just throw around like candy!
Mother of God, we even have rare instances of people publicly calling THEMSELVES pedos/child-diddlers while streaming games on platforms like Twitch merely for clout. Whether they're actually doing it for clout, or they're exposing something they themselves feel guilty of, I don't know, but my reaction to this is "if you know you're not one, WHY THE F*CK ARE YOU INCRIMINATING (especially if it's false) YOURSELF AT ALL??
People just have zombie brains, it's screwed up.
I HAVE been a person affected by CSA in my past. Users like this piss me off a lot.
It's honestly sickening, hope you're doing well.
@@bonixohd3424 It was years ago. I'll unfortunately never forget it. But these people will be why it'll always be at the front of my mind.
Fictional characters are not real and you can't hurt them. I'm real. And I was harmed. And frankly man or woman? I'd deck this person in the face. (The subject of the video just to clarify)
I see Marin on the thumbnail, I already knew this was about to be some nonsense. I love how anime that just wants to have fun just pisses off people who hate fun. My Dress Up Darling, Miss Nagatoro and Uzaki-chan are literal antidotes for these people. 😅
You probably didn’t mean too, but that was a good pun “antidote”
Add Komi-san in there. I have no idea WHY they hate her so much.
Pyra was also a victim too
I'm just going to say both sides are wrong I do not agree with people senting her death threats to her and getting attacked for her opinion yes her account was public but that doesn't give you the right to send deathreats to her
and I also do not agree with her calling people pedophiles for like an anime that they like to watch it's fine for her not to like the anime and not watch it but calling people pedophiles and watering down that term is really a hypocrite move
And to people in the comments saying stop attacking her in the comments you should be on Twitter and go tell people that in Twitter not here and that isn't going to do anything you're also making it literally worse.
Agreed. I don't agree with her opinions and dont like the way she phrase them. It felt like she wanted to claim that everyone who only like wierd fictional stuff were all very bad as a fact and was telling those "problematic" people what to do, which might make some people who really just enjoy wierd stuff in fictions and is able to saperate them from reality feel terrible about themself. Yet I don't think harrassing her is ok cause harrassing itself is bad and doing it wont make us better than the people we disagree with. I would just block her and stay away from her.
Nobody is sending her death threats, though. That's the exact thing every single anti that sees people disagree with them says. On the contrary, she has sent her army of simps to actively harass people _here._
I really hate when people does the whole, "Rules for thee, but not for me."
So why doesn't this apply to murders in shows?
New drinking game! Take a shot every time avary says "literally" or "literal"
She’s a drawing.

2:22 imagine having a parasocial relationship... with a fictional character.
2:44 she could canonically be 21 and you wouldn't know the difference...
4:04 i'm sure you don't play any shooters or video games with otherwise objectionable content
6:26 so you're fine with consuming content you think of as problematic?...
7:44 nice strawmen. their logic is so flawed that they know they can't argue it honestly without looking like the clown they are
10:17 i'm sure this person wouldn't cancel someone for saying the hard r n-word if they said it was "just satire"
13:05 yea i always hate it when there's real murder in movies. like, how is that legal?
16:13 "not to mention i kinda act like one too" literally shooting yourself in the foot
16:47 a year, 2022
You know what would be funny? If lolicons start putting community notes in every anti's tweet with the real protect act and saying how their bs is misinformation that harms real people
That would be so hilarious.
May it happen sooner rather than later. Maybe they can add in that what the freaks are tweeting against is just a body type as well?
So, you stopped being a murder, if you're admitted that you killing people?
Something that a lot of people don’t understand is that the FBI and local law enforcement already have too much on their plates when it comes to tracking and apprehending predators. There are ALREADY more actual predators than the police can deal with. The idea of them also having to keep track of lolicons, even though that’s not gonna go anywhere most of the time, on top of that is completely absurd.
Japanese artists : You guys hold no power, my art my preference
Yeah thinking they can control fanart
Jp artists are actually very thin skins, especially when confronting filthy nwords
The summary of all this: LITERALLY
