Always love Thursday to see the ATS News. I'm quickly finding myself saying "What do you mean this is 'legacy' ??? LOL -- I just bought all the 82mm stuff last year"! But I also for some reason also have Rick's voice in my ear talking about (same as Hudson) the fact that 'newer gear won't improve your pictures'. I'm wondering how do you handle your Nikon 500mm PF lens in the field? I'm assuming you would be using a larger camera unit in the F-Stop bag - or do you carry it in its own lens case? and lug it around separately. Wondering if I travel with it this year - I know it will fit in the Think Tank rolling bag (haven't tried it yet). I just got my lens a month or two ago. Thanks for the great video.
Thanks, Hudson. I found this very informative, as with all your content. I’m wondering if you have considered a video discussing how you manage your cards and data when in the field (i.e., downloading, backing up, the tools for such, etc.). Thanks!
I note you use the Luma labs strap with your longer lenses. I have had a bad experience with my Loop with the spring pin in the hinge coming out and dropping my camera onto the ground. Fortunately no harm seems to have been done, but I am very wary of using it now. I have secured the pin with a drop of superglue on each end, but I feel the product would be much safer with a positive securement of the pin. I love the Luma design, but I now use a Black Rapid strap with my heavier lenses.
Hi Hudson.... I forgot to ask you if Nikon had solved the issue of the Z7 / Z6 bodies only being able to show actual Depth of Field at apertures smaller than F 5.6 ( I think that was the max for "What You See Is What You Get" display preview. GREAT rundown of your kit.... Hope you have gotten your Jab.....
:) thanks. I have the first of my 2. No, they have not. I can work around it fine, but it's dumb and should be such an easy fix. You can preview apertures smaller than 5.6, but not zoomed in. :(
I see you really love the new 24-24 F2.8..... I was thinking of it but my whole reason for going with the 14-30 was weight and 82mms. I find it better than my stellar 14-24 G and the 5 stops of IBIS does a great job of making up for the loss of F 2.8. I am just hoping Nikon can stick around.... Their wide lens throat has ushered in stellar optical designs and it's going to be great. I just want a S macro lens.... Did you get Phiser or Moderna?@@HudsonHenryPhoto
I have a plan to make my Z50 kit even smaller for backpacking this summer/autumn. Instead of carrying the 10-20mm AF-P, 16-50 & 50-250 Z DX lenses, I'm going to bring my 10-20mm AF-P and rent a 24-200. A holy binity of lenses. From what I understand the Z 24-200 is sharp in the center region but falls off in the outer, which makes it a perfect 36-300 on the Z50. with some padding could fit the camera, lenses, CPL + step up ring, battery & microphone into a small 5L-7L bag inside my backpack.
I have a video shooting kiteboarding with that lens the 70-200 2.8s and the 500pf. The 24-200 was a shocker. Much nicer than I expected. Kinda like all the Z system lenses. :)
Can you recommend a bag capable of holding 2 camera bodies, as well as 2-3 lenses? I find it useful to have 2 cameras, each w/ a lens attached so I don't have to change lenses so much.
Thank you, Hudson, great video! I always have a problem with traveling and what to bring. The wheeled Pelican seems to be just the ticket. Like you said, "Use it as a locker". Do you throw your F-Stop into your checked luggage? And reguarding filters, what about the Kase clip-in's for the 14-24? Again, thanks.
Hey Gary While waiting on Hudson to respond to the "checked luggage" question - also check out ATS # 066, how to pack tripods on planes. (You get to see his exciting garage)!!
@@gscharlach yes indeed! I think if the pandemic lasted much longer we would have an ATS tour of the house too :-). And then the lawn and landscaping. No complaints. I would watch them all.
Quick question Hudson. When you throw your lens cloths into the washer, do you wash them by themselves with detergent, or not, or with every day clothes?
We use these eco friendly sheets in lieu of soap for washing laundry called earth breeze and they don't have any harmful chemicals or residue. They're amazing. I do put them in with clothes usually, but nothing that would pill. If one pills, it moves into the sunglasses pile. :)
I hope you dont use those microfibre wipes on your lenses after going through the washing machine. The soap remnants are very abrasive. Moisture absorbing silicon pads would be a good addition depending on whether you are going through an airport or not...
Nevermind, I got super excited when I heard that tidbit before watching the rest of the video, the 14-24mm hood fits it. Does that mean the NISI hood will work as well?

Very helpful as I’m about to buy a new bag.
Hi Hudson, what is your experience with the Tilopa in the rain? Would you rather use a rain cover or just the bag in a rain shower?
Light rain, no problem. But, I carry a cover for downpours. That link in the description includes a cover and icu. :)

Great video! How much does the backpack typically weigh?
Totally depends on how much I toss in. ;-) 25-30 pounds on average maybe?
Another great vid, Hudson! One thing you didn’t mention was a computer....do you travel with a computer, and if so,where do you carry it?
Very timely! Great info.

You mention checking you tripod when traveling.... How do you prepare your larger tripod for air travel?
I live about an hour away from Yellowstone. Maybe I'll see you there in October.

Detergent is too abrasive for microfibre cloths on lens elements...
Yeah. I should add that caveat. Good point
@@HudsonHenryPhoto I was thinking something along these lines as to not reintroduce some more schmutz onto your lens. Thank you sir.

How much does your fstop pack weigh with all of the equipment you put into it today?
No Flash for Travel Bag? -thx.
Usually I take constant lume cube stuff now. But yes, sometimes my godoxs make the bag
What filter adapter/step-up ring are using on 70-200 to use the 112mm Kase filters?

It does, but it's a little more snug twisting it on the 70-200 for some reason.
