It’s FINALLY happening. What is happening you ask? Well, 2 big things. We are completing the roofs of our covered decks, AND we are taking our yurt off grid. We have eagerly anticipated BOTH of these projects being completed for a LONG time so it’s really cool to see them both take shape.
And now a little back story on us, in case you just found us on RUclips. We’re Sara and Ryan. We are your average suburban family, but 9 years ago, we purchased a raw piece of land in the Hood Canal in Washington. We’ve been developing this piece of property slowly, and this year we knew it was time to go all in. So we purchased a log cabin kit home and decided that 2020 would be the year we built a house on our property. We plan to build this cabin (as much as we can) on our own.
Unfortunately, COVID-19 put a delay on our cabin kit being produced and delivered in the time frame we had originally planned. While we could have just waited it out and pushed back starting on the build of our home, we decided to shift gears and change our course for the time being. We purchased a 30 foot yurt, and will be setting it up as additional living space when we begin to build our cabin.
In the summer of 2021, we FINALLY moved to the Hood Canal so we could start the build of our future home. While we are building our home, we are living in a camper trailer and the yurt that we built in the summer of 2020. We hope to have our cabin kit home built by the summer of 2022. Just my husband and I are building the house. We get help here and there from friends along the way and we do plan to get help on the roof but other than that we are doing it all on our own.
Follow along with us as we build our dream in the Hood Canal.

When you do it your self you save a lot of money . That alone is enough to keep you going.A the best from Canada A.
Well plaued. Congrats on another 2 items off the to do list. Thanks for letting us tag along on the build!! Peace!
Played... Need to learn to spell...
Each item we get to cross off feels so good. We actually made a huge list of everything we need to complete before we can call for our combo inspection, so lots more crossing off to come. lol.
Hey Sara, it's obvious that Ryan is the get-the-details-right person on the build but trust me on something I learned from being married to my amazing late wife for 32 years. I guarantee he will say the build would be nothing without you. It's obvious to those of us following your channel that the two of you work together very well.
I (Ryan) couldn't do it without her. We each do a great job of lifting each other up and supporting each other during challenging times.
Woo hoo!!! Bring on the plumbing!!🤗❤️
Yay to the University of RUclips!👷🏠🍬
You Darlings are pros now.
Can’t wait when you start decorating for Christmas 🎄
Impressive, seriously impressive!
So impressed with Ryan too. You guys are rocking it!

Pretty cool 😎 an important finalized need... now you can work better for the interior housing final needs...getting closer and closer to finalizing it all 💫💯👍😉
Yep. Now we get to move inside and tackle plumbing so we can get closer to that combo inspection.
roof looks good. nice job
Thanks John. It’s going to be so nice this winter to have some dry space.
Very nice work kids, looking real good. And God Bless you both as it does really take at least two to get things done. My wife and I have built three homes over the years and one complate remodel and we are still in love with each other and we both are still talking to each other hahahaha You can do it as you are about to move back inside and start finish work and most of that is fun.
Thanks Roy. It’s been a really rewarding experience to build something so challenging together. Glad to hear you’ve done it 3 times now and you and your wife are still talking. Lol.
You two have come so far in confidence 😉 congratulations 🎉 your almost there great job guys...
Sometimes it feels like there is so much left to do, but with consistent effort we know it will get done.

You guys have a nice Thanksgiving and a safe Christmas from Elkins West Virginia
Thanks, you too!
👏🏻🙂👍😁🙋♂️
What is it with the rubber shingles?? Why aren’t you using either roof tiles or tin?? Those shingles surely won’t keep the rain out??
These aren't rubber, they are asphalt and they are a very common roofing material here. We have had the roof on the main house up over last winter and had zero leaks so it seems to be holding up pretty well.
❤😊❤😊❤
What's the vine growing on the stump? Is it wild or planted by you?
Why do people like questions that need answering?
Sorry for the late response, Laurie. It is a wild plant. Any plant you see on our land at this point is wild. Landscaping will be one of the last things we do. I think the plant growing around that stump is a vining blackberry (which sounds nice, but actually loves to take over everything in it's sight).
I can’t help feeling it’s wrong 2 drive nails through roof tiles
You need to drain the water out of your air compressor tank before it ruins your nail guns.
Yes! Thank you for the reminder. I noticed that when I was editing the video.
you know we all looking at her but right.
Where do you live?
We live in Western Washington
I used to live in Silverdale. What body of water?
