Wow Maks did really well jumping with dance blades. You can see how fast he can rotate. Just imagine what he could have done on FS boots and blades. Seriously impressed. Glad you decided against racking up an injury for a video Lloyd. Thanks for sharing this enjoyable video. Would love to see how one could work up to doing 3 turns at speed. I can do them in waltz 8 but trying them flying down the ice terrifies me.😫
Practice! If you’re comfortable going fast down the ice it makes it much easier, especially if you can go quick down the ice and not be fazed at all by your speed and not having to worry about it. For the 3-turn focusing on bending your knees at the right times, having the rise in the middle, and turning at the right time (half way through the 3 turn; if you start looking at one side at the board, when your on your edge and your body is completely facing the opposite board you turn). With practise you won’t end up having to think about these things as it becomes muscle memory, but you can do it! I would start by individually practicing stroking quickly around the ice and separately practicing your 3-turns and increasing the speed of them over time as you get more comfortable with going faster. :)
And definitely use your arms and shoulders to block during the turn! If you can block it will make it easier when going faster, but try to stay calm and breather so your shoulders don’t rise too much as that will make it harder to do the turn
I’m really impressed. I tried doing a toe loop with a pure dance blade and because of the much smaller toe pick fell straight down. Went back to a hybrid dance blade immediately after. His 2A was really beautiful
I've always wanted to learn figure skating but was never sure if I wanted to do jumps, I didn't even know ice dancing was a thing, it sounds pretty fun. Sounds like something I'd wanna learn
Thank you so much! I love this video. I was wondering the differences between figure skating blades and ice dancing blades for a while. And I didn’t find a satisfied answer when I googled. When you showed us the linear holes on the ice, I feel like... Wow! I see the differences between how different blades work now.
I was asking myself sometimes if the ice dancers miss some of the more acrobatic moves that they can't involve in their routines? Or they would rather miss more freedom from the frames to create even more artistic programs?
Love your videos - they have a perfect balance between being both educational and entertaining! And yes guys, you both did great job with jumps (Maxim turned out to be a great surprise!) 👏
You know what, that's really reassuring! To think you're this good at skating and get this nervous about jumps! I can gladly relax about sticking to my wobbly singles forever and enjoy putting work into steps. If..... I see ice again someday. Otherwise in spring on rolls 😂
i stopped skating about two years ago (i was an ice dancer who did single skating for a bit so jumps make me nervous too) and just recently got back on the ice and the first time i did, i was like a beginner again. it felt like i should’ve been in rentals. honestly: even if it’s steps, if it IS jumps (singles or higher if you get there-it’s not as hard as it looks, it just takes time), working on ANYTHING will progress your skills and make you a better skater. working off ice can help too!! 3-turns aren’t too hard to practice off ice, balancing on different sides of your feet to imitate edges, off ice jumps, etc. keep working at it!!!
@@lukaspatel i stopped skating because i started losing interest and the only thing that kept me going was synchro. i really don't like jumps and spins because i'm a bit of a scaredy cat and also, i don't really care about it. it's cool to show off sometimes but i much prefer twizzles and synchro, as well as like spreads and stuff.
Most ice dancers probably started out doing singles skating. Back in the late 1970s/early 1980s when I used to skate at the old Altrincham Ice Rink (closed in 2002) I remember watching Nicky Slater doing double jumps and this was about 5 years after he had been a top ice dancer.
Oh you are in my home country Lloyd! How nice to see especially since I couldn’t get there for Christmas this year! I hope you had a good time there and well done to you and Maks, very brave :D
I just transitioned from freeskate to ice dance and I have the same boot and blade he has. I have no idea how in the world he was able to pick in for a toe jump. I tried once and about died 😂.
There are definitely a number of Dancers who were also proficient in singles. It just isn't a required skill for that discipline so YMMV, but lots of amazing dancers who excel in other areas of the sport.
Hahaha! I learned from a coach that an ice dancer will make all others look like swamp skaters! Their edges, foot work and upper body is so perfected that jumps are really an add on for them, (providing you have the correct equipment😅)
What do you think about health & permanent jumping? Example: Alexandra Trusova. She does 4x ...very extreme ... , When will her hips get damaged...? It worries me if landing always on the same foot/leg/hip. The pro skater Alexei Yagudin had a hip surgery (I think a new hip?) as much as I know, but still he jumps ? What's your opinions ?
It reassures me to see that you're both nervous about doing jumps 🙈 even people as good as you are find them scary to try, so my own fear IS normal after all 😮
Well, what can I say they still give skaters great basic technique in the Ukraine as long as Maksim still remembers all entries to the jumps and even landed nice double axel! After 16 years in ice dancing and on the blades which aren't suitable for jumping at all. Cheers from Russia and thanks for mentioning Eteri Tutberidze's group. Yep she switched single skating to ice dancing, but became single skating coach, and actually many former ice dancers did the same, because they know basic techniques and it helps.
I feel like the more accurate title would be: Can you jump in ice dancing skates? Because these two clearly learned their jumps and had the technique drilled into them
i used to skate competitively when I was a teenager 30 years ago, and Im going back as an adult skater. I want to do jumps again, what would be the easiest to start with again. Im hoping to get a coach as well... I think I can jump at 49 years old
Witam Maks & Lloyd I am a German father (in Germany ) and have a 7 year old daughter . She is Polish and lives in Poland, actually living currently in Moscow . She skates since she is 4 and wants to Ice dance instead single . What can you recommend for children depending the perfect club, training, safety, the right shoes & blades, finding the best possible partner to dance with for long term (guess that's a matter of being lucky?) ? She sleeps with her skates in bed and is crazy to learn it. But I do not want any pressure. It should be fun mainly and if she likes to compete for more someday , ok.... Generally she is shy (depending cameras around her). So what is your experiences , tips etc ? Thanks a lot Marky
Those comments at the end about Tutberidze didn't age well, did they. She produces "great" skaters by giving them medication to delay puberty and breaking their bodies as children so their careers are over by the time they reach 17.

I haven't done an axel for so long I'm pretty sure that it's my rear end I'll be landing on when I start doing them again. 🤣

Maks: I am a little bit nervous (to jump) because of the toe picks and smaller dance blades.
Also Maks: *jumps as though he does them every day* 👏
ice dancers have strong edges which is the reason he is landing them
