- Find out what happened when prodigious Finnish figure skater Emmi Peltonen ventured to the Arctic Circle to perform a special routine in the frozen wilderness of her homeland amongst the northern lights!
The Arctic Ice Dance film shows Peltonen performing a special choreography in Nuorgam, Finland, where a circle was ploughed out of the ice to create the perfect stage for her to show off her figure-skating skills!

So often I have found myself disappointed with the clinical ice rink environment sucking the life out of figure skating performances. I'm so glad this got made.
There's a T and D one coming up from Alaska.
They will be performing Bolero.
Hope you managed to watch Dancing on Thin Ice with Torvill and Dean.
It was on yesterday (New Year's Day) but still available on Catch Up. ITV Hub.
There was something similar done by Brian Boitano in Alaska, many years ago. Trying to find it on RUclips now.

@urlongjuicyshlong find a local ice rink that you’d be alright with travelling to and try and join the figure skating club. They generally have learn to skate lesson and then you progress from there. Hope this helped :)

@urlongjuicyshlong I am!!! I’d recommend checking your nearest skating rinks (i’ve found if you are near a state capital nhl rinks are the way to go, they’re nicer and cute nhl players are a bonus 😂) the rinks websites and looking for a coach and public and free skate times, I’d also really recommend stretching and off ice because it makes a huge difference. good luck!😊

@urlongjuicyshlong not really, it may be helpful when you jump but at The beggining you're obviously not able to do so. Slimer skaters can also start with the cheaper skates - the more expensive ones are usually stiffer so they don't break that quickly as the cheaper do. When you weigh more than the average figure skater you obviously need the stiffer skates, because your body puts more pressure on the boots :)

This brang me so much nostalgia... I live in Lithuania and theese past two winters were so warm, none of the lakes would freeze... But I remember... 3, 4 years ago I would take my skates every free winter night, drive to the biggest local lake, wait for the sunset, put on my earphones some good music and just let myself free... It makes me want to cry because its so hard to put in words how much a person can love a place and an activity, how much peace it can bring to your soul. I've had an anxiety disorder since I was 13 years old (im 20 now) and figure skating was the only activity that I did not stop doing because of my disorder. I've loved skating since I was 6 years old. There is the only place on earth that I get completely calm, focused and my mind forgets every problem I've ever worried about. I miss it and my heart cries knowing I probably won't get to experience none of it this year too.

I'm getting not only the chills, but little tears. I was a figure skater, from Spain, and it's a life dream to skate outdoors surrounded by nature. I've already experienced a little what it is a landscape made of snow mountaineering, but to skate on it, that will be a fantasy.

This is such a great idea!
There is no live audience, as in a skate rink. But we the many RUclips watchers are watching. The quiet beauty of nature and movement. Imagine a group of Olympic figure skaters, professionally shot with closeup cameras and cinematographic lighting, here instead of on an ice rink. But the cold and elements would be a second challenge for them. Advanced thermal fabric should keep them warm.

I've never really realized to appreciate it enough, but in my childhood there was a winter where we got tons of snow first, then it all melted, formed huge pooling over a field and then all froze again and got some snow etc. and that created basically a big field with a very smooth ice over it. We, as kids, went there pretty much daily to skate around and play hockey and gotta say, it is one of the most memorable experiences of my youth. Sure we had to shovel some snow every now and then - and at some parts a clump of the field's soil might've been sticking out a little, but... it was still a fairly great ice to skate on.
Sure, we didn't figureskate but ... either way, it was a cool experience getting to do all that in a natural setting rather than a rink
