We had a very cold spring last year..I transplanted out from plug trays in early April...and hoop covered in a high raised bed.. they were some of my favorite sunflowers! I paired them with blue canturberry bells fall planted.. Friends and family couldn't believe they lasted so long and looked better then store bought. I am so thankful for your video ladies! You brighten up many lives🌻🌻
Thanks Lisa and Layne🌼 I'm going to do this. Zone 6a NW of Lake Erie. 4/30 LFD. I would welcome small blooms.. Lisa sounds delightful❤ I just ordered.. 4 and the quick dip, the Mom's at Church are going to be so surprised on Mother's Day. 🌻
I would love to have some of the miniature blooms Lisa described, as well - they sound adorable! 😍 Best of luck with your early sunflowers! Wishing you lots and lots of beautiful blooms 🌻💛🌻
Seed Talk is a great, informative, and valuable series of videos. What soil/soil-less mix does Lisa use in her cell trays for growing sunflowers? Is it the same as her soil-blocking mix? Thanks, Michael.
I started my sunflowers in January! Have been planting every Sat since! I hope to see which week will be the best time to begin planting!!! I'll be ready for next year!!! Big Time!!
Such a great idea, Ahava! I love that you are tracking your results each week so you will know the best time to plant going forward 😊 Wishing you an abundance of beautiful blooms! Thanks so much for watching, and have a lovely day 🤗
HI - fantastic programme as always - can you remind me of the size to grow lights you use? T - somenting? many many thanks - jsut getting my gear organised here to start my own flower farm in SW France XXX
Just as I was gazing at my 100% germinated TGW Procut Sunflower babies here in my grow room, there you are! I was wondering the exact thing about when to plant these out here in zone 7b SC. They are approx 1.5 inches tall now. I have a feeling that they are wanting to bust out and up sooner than I think. I'm not usually a risk taker, however, I completely trust your methods and even your hunches. We're in it together so.... WHY NOT!? Thanks sweet ladies.... xoxoxoxo
Yes, it is always surprising how quickly sunflowers grow! Congratulations on your excellent germination, and best of luck with your sunflower babies 🌻☺🌻 Thank you so much for watching, Cathy, and have a lovely day! 🤗
Loved this experiment sunflower show. Thank you Lisa for providing exact temperature information and breaking it all down. Thanks Layne for asking the questions we all want answers to! Can't wait to try my own early birds! Rachel in Portland, Maine. 😊
Thanks, Frauke! I agree - the amount of product to put in does not mean much if you do not know how much water the product is going into 🙃 Thanks again for watching, and have a lovely evening! 💛🤗💛
Thanks so much for the positive feedback! Hope you will be growing some beautiful sunflowers this year 🌻☺🌻 Thanks for watching, and have a wonderful day! 🤗
So happy you are enjoying "Seed Talk", Louise! ☺ Normally, 6" spacing for sunflowers yields around 4" heads, which is a great size for bouquets. 12" spacing results in larger heads. As we mentioned in the video, the heads of these early sunflowers tend to be smaller. Thanks so much for watching, and have a wonderful day! 🤗
Q? Hi Lisa and Layne🤗 When is the best time to dig for cutting garden? Such as Spring, Summer or Fall. Thanks ❤Also, how do you warm the soil to work the soil?
Tried to watch the Friday live show for the first on March 10 re: sunflowers, and my internet would not allow it. How can I watch the replay? I am new to the website and could not find it. Thanks!
I found a inch tall Zinnia seedling in my garden as a 5 inch snowfall was melting. It was a wet snow 35° and it melted in one day. We did have several warm days in Feb(one day was 76°). I just thought this was interesting. I will be watching this seedling closely. Our last frost date is March 15 so it should be good. I wonder if flower breeders also try to breed in cold hardiness.
Hello! Lisa said she has never used heating coils in her low tunnels. She knows some growers that use them within hoop or greenhouse structures, but she has not personally heard of anyone using them out in the garden. Thanks so much for watching, and have a great evening! 🤗
Excellent show ladies. Layne - you have best, thoughtful, relevant questions and Lisa you’d have best, most knowledgeable and doable answers!
Thank you
Another great episode! I’m learning so much about flowers and farming. Thank you! ❤
Thanks for sharing
Much appreciation for the detailed information on this subject! Thank You!🌱

Sunflower sunrich are more easily available in Canada (home growers) then procuts. My question is can this be achieved with sunrich?? Thank you

Do you sell those narrow buckets? ❤
Hello! We do not currently sell any buckets (although I wish we did!). Thanks so much for watching, and have a wonderful evening! 🌻🤗🌻
Have you ever used a heating coil on the soil down the center of a covered row in the event of a sudden cold spell?
Hello! Lisa said she has never used heating coils in her low tunnels. She knows some growers that use them within hoop or greenhouse structures, but she has not personally heard of anyone using them out in the garden. Thanks so much for watching, and have a great evening! 🤗
