This is my first episode with you. You now have a loyal follower! I have a tendency to over think things which often results in me becoming paralyzed & doing nothing. Your information has given me the confidence to move forward with determination. I look forward to binge watching many more videos!
Thanks so much for sharing your experience with bupleurum! Good to know that your florists cannot get enough of it either ☺ Thanks again, and have a fabulous week! 💚🤗💚
This was wonderful! I just happen to have some Bupleurum seed coming today from you guys. I am going to try it since some critter got to my fall seedlings.
Love all the episodes of Seed Talk! You both are such a great pair. Thank you!!! Have you ever done an episode on soil blocking vegetable seeds? Or herbs?
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!!!! Exactly the information I was missing. I'm a northern gardener, but the way you've broken down this information (including the temperature effects on germination and stem lengths with warming temps) makes it so helpful to apply to my own unique growing conditions! Any chance of a similar style seed talk on Bells of Ireland and other less straight forward flower crops? Layne, you do such a great job interviewing Lisa and presenting her experience and wisdom in a great educational style! Thank you for all you provide for us!!!
ST#52 is a good Bells of Ireland resource mama. And I agree, Layne is such a good moderator. Keeps the show moving and has that nice smooth NPR voice working for her.
Thanks so much for the positive feedback and the kind words! I really appreciate it 🥰 Perhaps we can do a similar Bells of Ireland talk in the future 😃 Meanwhile, we did some germination troubleshooting for Bells of Ireland back in episode 56 🌱 Wishing you a wonderful week and a bountiful spring garden full of flowers! 💚🤗💚
What great information! I love your show. I am growing flowers for my son’s wedding next May. I am practicing this year. What would be your top five flowers to grow for bouquets, vases, etc.
When the seed tray is on the floor germinating, approximately what temp do you think that area is? What temp do they like to germinate at? Trying to find the best spot for this, my basement is around 60, my grow room is about 65 - 70.
Hello, thanks for the step by step on this. Question about the hardening off period on the carport that Lisa talks about. Is that a typical hardening off process with gradually acclimating to more direct sunlight and wind exposure and bringing the seedlings back inside each day? It sounded like when they get moved to the carport they stay out there overnight from day one. Is that correct? Also, is your carport covered? I have a covered porch that get afternoon sun and I'm wondering if the conditions are similar to your carport.
Hello! I would recommend checking out episode 26 on hardening off. We described Lisa's carport setup in detail, and - as you mentioned - once the seedlings go out on her carport, they pretty much stay there (unless there is an unusual weather event that results in them being temporarily brought back in). Hope that helps, and thanks so much for watching! Have a lovely day 💚🤗💚
Thanks - I'll revisit that episode again. Funny - I was looking through 'Cool Flowers' again this afternoon and realized that there is a photo of the carport on page 92 🙂
I asked The Gardener’s Workshop Flower Farmer page to be a member so I could learn the Bupleurum trick. I answered truthfully that I am not a flower farmer, so I guess that’s why the group hasn’t accepted me. Understandably. So is there a facebook page for The Gardener’s Workshop enthusiastic gardeners such as I ? Thank you to Lane in reaching out to the home gardeners as well as the flower farmers.
@layneangelo hello . I’m having a hard time locating a recent video where Lisa started to talk about scabiosa - that it can come to you in two forms ????? Can you direct me to that video ? Please . Seems like she was speaking to tips for germination . Thank you
I may have missed it .. but.. after you remove the top tray, and keep it growing on, in the grow room, does it go under grow lights or just the ambient light of the room?
Great point! After germination, we recommend moving the seedlings under grow lights until it is time for them to be hardened off outdoors💡 Thanks so much for this question, and have a lovely day! 💚🤗💚
How about a talk on netting? How you set it up/hang/support it, how high, sources (I bet I can guess!), when to place it, what flowers benefit from netting?????
Hello! The time from seeding to maturity for our favorite variety (‘Green Gold’) is typically around 80-90 days. Keep in mind that this can vary based on growing conditions and stage of harvest and does not apply to overwintered plants. Thanks so much for watching, and have a fabulous day! 💚🤗💚
Does bupleurum dry well? I am always looking for flowers and plants that I can use as dried flowers. I am a new flower farm, and I do not always sell all my flowers yet. I find that drying what does not sell gives me a second chance to sell my flowers in the fall with dried flower arrangements and crafts.
Yes, it can be dried! In episode 58, we talked about drying bupleurum (and showed an image) starting around minute 14 🙂 Our florist friend Ellen Frost loves drying bupleurum, as well, and is the one who originally recommended we try drying it 😊 Thanks so much for watching, and have a fantastic day! 💚🤗💚
This was wonderful! I just happen to have some Bupleurum seed coming today from you guys. I am going to try it since some critter got to my fall seedlings.
Oh, what perfect timing! So frustrating when our animal friends decide to snack on our seedlings 😩 Best of luck with your bupleurum, and have a fantastic week! 💚🤗💚

Layne, you and LIsa do a great job with these YT videos. I like your graphics on the Home Screen. It is easy to determine the focus of the topic.

Not sure if I missed this part, but after the bupleurum sprouts, do you put them under grow lights for those 4 weeks before planting out? TY!
Thank you ❤

I used this in my dried flower wreath workshops and regretted not having grown more. It was the only item we ran out of.
How neat - thanks so much for sharing! 💕 Have a wonderful day 💚🤗💚
I got it germinated and growing well by winter sowing in a plastic milk container. I’m in Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺
Fantastic! Thanks so much for sharing your experiences from beautiful Australia 😍 Have a wonderful week 💚🤗💚
Do you cold stratify the seeds if you’re using the indoor method ??
Great tips! How tolerant of shade is bupleurum?
i plant mine in partial morning shade and it extends seasons a bit!

Great information. Could you do an episode on growing eucalyptus?
Great information! Could you do a similar episode on germinating snapdragons? Thanks!

How long after planting outside are they ready to harvest?

Absolutely dries well, upside down hanging method. I used in my wreath classes. My students chose it first.
If you are interested I can send you a setup of my dried flower class and you can see all the dried material we use
