    Technically, Peter didn't bring Mayday to a fight. He brought her to meet Miles, and it turned into a chase after. So technically, he didn't lie.

    I think something important about the relationship between Peter and Mayday that deserves a shout out is the book he was reading next to her. "How to speak so children will listen, and listen so children will speak." He clearly wants a honest and open relationship with daughter in a way that isnt muddled like his history was with keeping secrets and emotions hidden.

      I think his (attempted) heart to heart with Miles earlier has to do with that too, I think he’s still upset about that. Maybe we’ll see his new communication skills when they meet again next movie!

    I just love this version of Peter. I'm so used to the original wisecracking teenage version that it's nice to see a more laid back yet jovial, responsible dad version. Well, as responsible as you can be when you're bringing you baby on missions.

      The part that gets me is Peter was on the verge of being a father in the 1990s, but Marvel editorial seemed to do everything possible to prevent that from happening. So we could’ve had something like this version of Peter decades ago, and now that we have it in the Spider-verse movies, I’m thinking, “what were they so worried about? Why did they think this was the worst thing to do with Peter as a character?”

  • @solardwagon1526
    @solardwagon1526 8 месяцев назад +13

    I feel like the "I HAD HER BECAUSE OF YOU" is when the whole Mayday obsession makes sense. He's been distracting Miguel and making the point that maybe, just maybe, things not going to plan is okay and is actually a part of life.
    It's also as you note a moment of seriousness where if Miles is "wrong" then Mayday is ALSO wrong, and it's really the turning point of the movie-up to that point it's been mostly goofy superhero stuff but it's turning dark, but that's the moment when the stakes really get laid out.

    Peter B. is PERFECT. I love him. This is the growth arc for Peter Parker the comics robbed us of. I just love getting to see him grow as a person, become a loving husband and an amazing dorky dad, and just NOT STOP BEING SPIDERMAN because guess what? Spiderman always does both! Or all three!

  • @JD-hi9st

    Regardless of Miguel's character on the overall story, 4:37 is one of my favorite moments of him in the movie.
    Because he DOESN'T have spider-sense, and you could just say it was a reflex. But I love to think that even after losing his daughter, even when it's not his own child, his parental-sense still kicked in to catch Mayday.

  • @WandersNowherre
    @WandersNowherre 9 месяцев назад +19

    it's funny, I don't think Peter expected to be taking Mayday to a 'battle' even though the movie calls it that, since he was really just taking her into 'work' at the Spider Society HQ and sure wasn't planning to get caught up in a chase with all of his co-workers going after his friend like that.
    Though at the end he really has no excuse 🤣🤣

    06:43 I think Peter wanted Miles to hold Mayday is because it was Miles in the first movie who made Peter belive in himsielf, that ge could become a good parent. If it weren't for Miles, he would never had the willpower and curage to reconcile with Mary Jane and become a parent. And by holding Mayday maybe Miles can understand how much it means for Peter. And then maybe Peter could get through to Miles.

  • @_kaleido
    @_kaleido 9 месяцев назад +36

    Great analysis as usual, I like how you pointed out how obsessed Peter is with Mayday. Also I love your harness with the little Spider plushie it is really cute. I think Peter also looks to Mayday as a source of comfort whenever he’s stressed or sad. For example, he always kisses her head when he’s distressed (watching the projection of his captain’s death, seeing the flashback of Miguel’s adopted universe collapsing, when Miles realizes Peter and Gwen knew about the anomaly issue all along, when Miguel leaves to catch Miles). Mayday never seems distressed in those situations herself, so Peter is giving her affection specifically for *his* comfort.
    I also think Peter’s relationship with Miles is so interesting too when Mayday is in the equation, Peter *wants* what’s best for Miles, he basically sees Miles as his second child so of course he wants him to be happy and safe. but at the same time he was there when Miguel’s universe collapsed and he watched Gabriella disappear, so of course he would do whatever it takes to make sure that couldn’t happen to his own daughter. So there’s a lot of conflict for how far he should go when it comes to stopping Miles. you can see in the furnace room (??) when Miles strings him upside down to the ceiling, his arms are free so he 100% could have just webbed Miles while he was pulling the grate up, but he let him go instead. He’s trying to find that middle ground between strictness and gentle leniency, but he definitely feels guilty about it either way, considering when he asks MJ if she thinks he’ll ever be good at the whole parenting thing.
    I think Peter’s breaking point to make him turn to Miles’s side though was when Miguel was going absolutely feral on the Go Home Machine, his face just *screams* “I let that man hold my baby” lol. Peter obviously cares about Miguel but I don’t think he’ll feel 100% safe having Mayday around him after that. And since Miles is basically Peter’s proto-child, he probably feels compelled to protect Miles from Miguel.

    • @AncientBeast65
      @AncientBeast65 9 месяцев назад +2

      Furthermore, I think Peter has to reassess about the nature of letting an Uncle Ben die.
      While true, Uncle Ben's death is what kickstarted Peter to be responsible. However, there's a difference between doing this for the greater good and doing this out of sheer spite which Miguel has obviously shown. More than that, Uncle Ben dying is painful no matter how much you romanticized the good that came from it.

    On the being overly excited about something bit, I tend to overthink it to the point where I never share anything, because in my experience, no one actually cares about the things I want or care about. If I want to be "part of the Tribe" I always have to go along with whatever everyone else wants. It honestly makes me feel worthless and like my opinions and things really don't matter, and that only basic needs (food, water, air, shelter) matter

      If you are open about what you are passionate about, many people will find it annoying. But the people who surround you then make far more valuable relationships than any you would get by trying to fit in.
      But hey, I'm no psychologist, just talking from experience.

      I watched Stephanie Lange debunk all the celebrity gaslighting on beauty standards 💅🏽
      I watched Uhnnnn where two amazing drag queens, Trixie and Katya, talk about anything and everything with amazing editors adding hilarious special effects on the green screen behind them 💚👑
      I watched Alanda Parker and Zzavid get freaked out by horror movies so that I can laugh instead of be scared 😱😅
      I watched Moriah Elizabeth makeover damaged Squishies and turn them into rainbow cupcakes or fruit themed animals 🍓

    Mayday's powers differ from her father's. For example, May doesn't wallcrawl like Peter and Miles. May produces a biomagnetic aura that allows her to attract...or even repel from the metallic structural supports inside buildings.....or even objects. She can redirect knives and other small, thrown weapons and repel swords. Eventually she gets a Spidy-suit with web shooters and deadly steel, stinger needles that she rarely uses as she deems them overly "brutal".

    What I see in Peter B. is a lot of the same things I’ve struggled with regarding intense abandonment anxiety. It definitely feels like Peter B. has kind of latched onto others as a source of inner strength and that he seemingly feels a need to have Mayday with him because he’s scared of being alone. With his loss of aunt may and his temporary loss of Mary Jane, it seems to have really put him in this mindset of I need to have someone with me to give me strength and those people kind of become his whole world. He was so heavily impacted by miles that he had a child to chase that feeling of having miles by his side. For me, my friendships and relationships would kind of become my everything to a very unhealthy degree and I can see traces of that in how he acts. I’m not a psychologist so I’m pretty much just talking out my ass, but I really wanted to share my perspective

    'I like being around you!'
    ... But I stayed away from you for 16 months.
    Because some dubious vampire practically-a-cult head said your best friend's a cosmic freak and a multi-verse-level existential threat. Even if he's the only reason you were alive to get back together with MJ and have Mayday - and then betray him - in the first place.
    So yeah, I believe Peter meant what he said. And I sincerely hope he and Miles (and Gwen) work things out. Many of us love all 3 of them too much, and that makes this betrayal hurt all the more. But I can see why Miles wouldn't buy it - especially not after Peter inadvertently got Miguel's goons sicced on him. (Really, you didn't know Miguel was monitoring your watch? That's like fascist standard operating procedure.)

      What probably makes the totally-not-a-cult worse is that every Spider Migel invites into the Spider-Society shares very similar canon events, which means they all share the same trauma and thought processes. Creating a echo-chamber where everyone agrees and no one doubts Migel.
      Which is why Miles is so disruptive. His canon events are so much more different, so he doesn't agree with Migel, which makes him freak out since that would undermine both the Spider-Society and his entire thought process.

    • @danielchen87
      @danielchen87 9 месяцев назад

      Yup, hence why I said 'inadvertently'. I agree with @Mediados that Peter likely didn't mean to rat Miles out. I could've been clearer that I meant Peter was being 'thoughtless' rather than that he was lying about not knowing, though. :)

    exactly on point analasys overall, this is the exact analogy being put in by the writers and it's supposed to be a cute scooby doo kind of thing for some of us watching.
    Mayday Parker originally showed up as a "what if...!?!" story where she was a teen in high school adjusting to her budding powers from Peter. Peter himself was retired with a broken leg. This was always delegated to a side story tho and would never be pulled into a main story because editors were certain that if peter got old he'd be less marketable and that would lead to either trying to appeal to a new demo and/or gambling on new characters. So this story with miles pulls in a lot of these elements for most of the most important characters!
    It's exactly the kind of thing spider man would try to solve so hard and be sure he had the answer to while the truth, the elephant so to speak, is right there in the room. Clearly he can't ask miles to let his dad die, that's obscene, but in the exact way we as a fanbase were stuck wondering if mayday would ever see mass attention and yet, here she is! If Peter were asked to make that kind of choice he never would and he knows it ;P

You did a great job in describing Mayday's impact on Peter and how she's brought him so much joy :). I do agree also though that he unintentionally was insensitive to Miguel. But yes, his scenes with Mayday were so adorable :). Great points also about how someone's enthusiasm can be overwhelming, but we should also be mindful in how we respond, particularly since a harsh response could lead to the other person feeling much hurt.
    Awesome cosplay too. Take care. Have a nice day :).

    1) Has anyone else noticed what happened at the 0:38 mark?!?!
    1A) SPOILER ALERT
    1B) Shoutout to the Canadian Lad for showing me the value of 0.25 playback speed!
    Was that just pattern recognition because he pulled that stunt before, or did HER spider-sense warn her of Daddy P.B.'s attempt to catch her!?!?!
    Other than that, loving the video AND the playlist. THANKS, Dr. Dow!

    I think if you are going to talk about anomalies you would need to to deep dive into the implications of of the siderman organization being the biggest anomaly thus far.
    I mean if a single misplaced spiderman destroys a universe. What would hundreds of spidermen in a single universe do to the rest of the multiverse? Also anomalies seem very spidercentric non spider lives don't seem to matter in terms of anomalies which also makes me question how big is Miguel's ego.

    I think a lot of the Peter B Parker picture showing was to use the millennial disarming tactic. Also, it's shown that Peter B was their when Miguel lost his second family... so Peter B and Miguel definitely would have that connection of parenting, and I bet Miguel has seen and usually enjoys the photos from Peter B a lot.

    = ) Georgia I VOLUNTARILY hold MYSELF hostage to your videos with your puppy! And even though I have lost my children, I happily and enthusiastically engage with people about their children. I also have a 5 year old nephew and 18 month old niece and a 5 year old niece who have me wrapped around their fingers. They still deserve my devoted love even though I've experienced loss. Not their fault. = ) Ina church full of people, dozens of kids, without looking, I could recognize my 6 year old daughter's gait running to find me after class. While asleep, I knew when they shifted wrong in bed at night and weren't feeling good. Also ran and dove across the room to catch them while they learned to walk and climb. I also took them every where. And they were DEFINITELY the brains of my operation! = )

    Yes, Mayday is so wonderful for Peter. And it made me laugh to hear him gush about her and refer to her as magical lol 😂! Though, his immense insensitivity with pushing Mayday in his face with pictures/etc and making fun of Miguel’s seriousness turned my stomach. I really did not like Peter in those moments at all.

    I kind of like that Peter takes Mayday with him to Spider-society. How else is she going to learn to be a Spider-Person? (I mean there is CONFLICT there but it's not a fight to the death or anything.) I guess I'm the only person who supports Peter B.'s bad parent decisions.
