Student body president gets a big surprise at school with gifts from a Secret Santa

The EastIdahoNews.com team is busy helping a local Secret Santa give $1 million to deserving people in eastern Idaho this holiday season. Every day, from now until Christmas, we will post videos of the recipients being surprised with these life-changing gifts.
Jimmy is the student body president at American Heritage Charter School and volunteers many hours to help those in need outside of school. He has helped with countless food drives, fundraisers and peer tutoring.
Jimmy is always there for his classmates, teachers and those who need some help. He is someone that will always jump in and lend a hand with zero expectations of repayment, no matter how hard the job is. He works at the New Sweden Corn Maze where he does an amazing job and does not want to miss a day of work. Despite his positive attitude and energy, Jimmy has experienced a lot of hardship recently.
His mom has had some major cardiac health issues this summer, including an arrhythmia. Jimmy has taken time off of work to help take care of her and be there for her. His mother is the sole provider for their family. Currently, his mother is working in another state to make ends meet.
Jimmy lives in their apartment with his older sister. At the school, there is a dress code that is business attire. His dryer recently went out, so he’s been taking his clothing to a laundromat to ensure he's following the dress code when he gets to school.
Jimmy currently drives a 1997 Chevy S10 that is always having issues. He drives the back roads to school every day because the truck’s brakes are having issues and are known to go out. For the protection of others, he drives the long way around to school, which is out in the farm fields. If his brakes fail out there, it won’t hurt anyone. Sometimes it will take him 45 minutes to an hour to get to and from school.
Secret Santa asked the East Idaho News elves if we could pay Jimmy a visit and bring him some early Christmas gifts. Watch the surprise in the video player above!

This young man is one of the most worthy recipients I have seen so far. What a delightful, respectful, polite, humble and talented person. The fact that he can service his truck speaks volumes. He is resourceful, creative and self-reliant while also giving to others. And all with impeccable manners. This is what it's all about. He's definitely going places. And I agree with those that say rehabbing the old truck is a much more honest and appropriate gift at this point in this man's life. He doesn't need an expensive, fancy truck yet. Being humble and grateful with an old car or a used one is where every young driver should start. The new car can come later.

I'm this young man's older brother. This is one of the best young men I have ever met. He went through hell growing up before my dad left us. Most of his siblings including me had to start working at a young age to make ends meet. He never gave up on school and even has straight A's and is the student body president. My mother works on a reservation in Wyoming and can't be around. I did my best while I was around, but this kid raised himself and made himself into a great character. I always tried to help him out with whatever I could but didn't have as much to give him as I wished. I am so grateful for this secret Santa and want them to know they could not have given the gift to to someone that needed and deserved it more.

That little smile he let out when he read the $3000 dollar garage credit sheet ....I've seen that smile thousands of times before ....its was a mixture of relief and happiness , it couldnt happen to a nicer young man.....its always refreshing to see such great manners and respect from young people and he wont have to lay on a cold parking lot floor again to fix his truck 😊 Great call Secret Santa, Nate and all the team , my daily fix of goodness is now topped up nicely thanks to what I think is the best Christmas series ever to air online. What a humble, mannerly young man. Some have commented that he should have gotten a new truck. I'm not so sure. A lot of the teens where I live absolutely love their old trucks and wouldn't trade them for anything. Thanks Secret Santa for all you do. @@betsyj59 I'm curious if he loves that truck because it's pretty darn old and not particularly special, like an old Jeep or something. While I don't think a brand new car would have been appropriate, but at least something newer and safer. 1997 is really old, but not old enough to be cool.
You are correct. My daughter as a kid & her cat grew up riding at the back of my 1984 Isuzu truck. She drove it all the way through college. And now she graduated college and has a job, bought a new GX460. Everytime she's in town she still borrow my old Isuzu truck that she grew up with to visit her childhood friends.
Those people can send the money for him to get a new truck. Honestly, I've contributed $0.00, but I am happy for what Secret Santa did for this young man.

I love how Secret Santa handled this one, this young man clearly is going places, he is independent and responsible and doing a great job taking care of himself and others. The things he is doing to get by are molding him into the thoughtful and empathetic strong person he is becoming. Secret Santa didn't try to interfere with how he was managing his life, just gave him a little extra comfort to keep doing things the way he is doing them. It feels like a good way to recognize him for the great person he already is and support him along his way.
I found this channel a couple of weeks ago and the running theme I’ve noticed in these incredible Secret Santa videos is that each recipient is given the gift of relief as weights, worry and strain lift off them when they realize how their gifts will impact their lives. That lifting of those burdens is life-changing to so many people. Thank you, Secret Santa, Nate, et al!

Argh! He was ADORABLE!!!!! He was like something out of a old movie. So polite and well mannered, mature and reserved, well spoken and an absolute gentleman!
His face when he smiled was just gorgeous (don't genuine big smiles just change a person's entire face?! 😇) He was over the MOON with the gift to get his truck serviced. Absolute weight off for that, the money for groceries and the cute gift of quarters for the laundrette. It will be good for him when he's not having to root around for money for that and he can just pick up another tub of 'em. 😊
We do have well mannered young men here in England ofc. But I dunno, there's something different about Americans that I see often in these videos, esp with this young man. .. I like it, anyway. And not a "bra," in sight 😂😉

This young man is very thoughtful of others, which is not a common trait in many teenagers. At least with the $3,000 credit, he can get any car repairs done, and not have to worry about the safety of his car. I thought the coins for the laundromat was a cool gift ❤️ with the money for groceries and fuel that he has, he can save the cash for a clothes dryer if he wants. He sounds like a caring and generous young man, always willing to help others. His mum has done a good job raising him and teaching him respect, thoughtfulness of others, and independence.

Total guess but Im thinking they didn't get him a new washer because its probably a rental & the landlord is prob responsible to fix or get one...guessing quarters to help until that happens.. I was surprised as im used to seeing new vehicles & so forth but a beautiful kind gesture of gifts nonetheless.

At least the repair money, although way more than he needs it will help to keep the truck running for any repairs needed in the future I imagine. Sometimes the old cars can be better than new, it terms of repair costs, no computer bits etc, plus solid actual strong metal not the flimsy metal most are made of now.
It is sill a lot for a young student to receive as a gift and I’m certain he will make the most of the gift he received
He certainly is an amazing student with all the help he does for others….. sounds a lot like our son. He used to help his friends mum’s bringing washing off the line, sit at the kitchen bench and chat to them, help clean up….. after he passed away these mums told me later the things he used to do for them, without anyone ever asking him….I was gobsmacked to find out all the things he did for others, he always helped me, just never told me he helped others, it made me even more proud of him. He did housework for me, would start dinner before I got home from work, he was one of a kind, we were so close, and I miss him sooooo much ….. 💔

@@hudsonsteele8532 thank you it’s the worst, because he was killed 4 weeks to the day before Christmas….he was counting down the days until we were to leave to spend Christmas with family interstate ….. our daughter lives over 2K kilometres away, rarely see her, so we don’t bother with Christmas now, it’s just hubby and I, the happiness has gone from my favourite time of the year. 💔

It's sad around the holidays for me, too. It started when I lost some favorite uncles and aunts in December, starting when I was about 12. My birthday is also in December, and due to other things that happened over the years, I've lost any joy I had in that, too. But the Lord is still with me, and that is really all that matters, here in the home stretch.

I know Secret Santa does his research on every recipient so I'm sure there is a very good reason why he didn't give him a new dryer or a newer vehicle, as we might have anticipated. I agree! Although any gift is appreciated, I feel the resources could have been much better utilized. I'm sure EIN is trying to come up with unique gifts to add to the surprise element, but sometimes the most obvious is the best solution. A new dryer or repairing the old one seems like it would have been a better investment than $100 in quarters for the laundromat. Most of us understand that reliable transportation is one of the biggest barriers to success, however, I realize Secret Santa cannot realistically buy everyone a new car. With that said, maybe sacrifice the dryer money & gift cards so that the entire $5100 could be put toward the purchase of a newer vehicle. It's possible, due to his age, the committee did not feel comfortable with or was not legally allowed to give this young man a check. I believe he would have used the money to make an investment in a vehicle & enable his success.
I really just want these generous donations & valuable resources invested in ways they make the biggest impact for the recipients. Regardless of the gifts chosen, Secret Santa is an absolute blessing to this community and is changing lives year after year! ❤️

@@debraallen63 I didn't hear him say he loves his truck, so wasn't sure. I think I was surprised because normally people get new cars. Maybe he does love it, but to me it doesn't seem like the kind of truck that someone would choose over a more reliable one. Lol. But that's just me.

I've seen that Same look on my grandsons face when he showed me HIS Van,that he worked and paid for.

This one was a very well deserving recipient. Going to school, taking care of his mom, going to work....there's a reason this young man is class president....he's a very caring person....we have a lot of celebrities and politicians that need to take notes from this young man.

So many of these charter schools help special needs kids that are on IEP's or 504 plans. And this young man has been so helpful, despite his personal challenges which he has learned to deal with. Great to see 'Secret Santa' and your news crew helping him out!

@@hilaryc3203 I said the same thing. if SS an afford to gift new cars, a new prosthetic leg, new custom wheel chair, propane for the winter, or a new heater, surely he can afford to give 200 to a new dryer or repair it. this is the cheapest one yet. some hick out in idaho thought this was a good gift. may as well have just given him a box of coal. that has more use.

I said the same thing! That truck is OLD. I'm so happy for him, but was disappointed. It would be different if he just needed new tires or something, but I didn't even know cars that old were still allowed to be on the road.
@@VioletJoy It's 25 years old and still runs. There are plenty of people with trucks that old. That $3,000 credit at the repair shop will be a real blessing when he needs a new starter or battery. For now the most important thing is safety, so I hope he will get his rear breaks repaired and new tires if he needs them. He seemed like a very nice young man.
@@lottasunshine1325 Yeah, that's all true. I just wasn't sure how much longer an old vehicle like that would pass a smog test. I also think I was just surprised because I'm used to seeing people get new cars. But you're totally right. It's a huge blessing for sure.

My 97 Toyota Avalon LS had 169k miles on it and still runs like a charm with no issues besides standard maintenance 🤷♂️ and always passes DEQ smog test as well
