Teenager working full-time at Lucy's Pizza to support his mom gets a huge tip from a Secret Santa

The EastIdahoNews.com team is busy helping a local Secret Santa give $1 million to deserving people in eastern Idaho this holiday season. Every day, from now until Christmas, we will post videos of the recipients being surprised with these life-changing gifts.
Isaiah and his sister Ivette attend high school in Idaho Falls. They are both amazing students and work hard outside of school to help with their family expenses.
Their mother works and does the best she can to provide for them. Unfortunately, she recently had surgery that will make her unable to work for about six weeks. Due to this long recovery time and her not receiving a paycheck, Isaiah has recently decided to withdraw from school and work full-time at Lucy's Pizza to provide for the family.
Isaiah and his family never ask anyone for anything and he is taking on more than what the average person his age has to go through.
Secret Santa asked the East Idaho News elves to surprise Isaiah while he was working at Lucy's Pizza. We had to get creative in how we surprised him. Check it out in the video player above!

I don't understand why our society doesn't have a social safety net to help this woman while she's out of work. Why don't they give her unemployment? Doesn't her county have a Social Services department that offers Temporary Assistance? How can we live in a country that can permit a 16-year-old child to quit school in order to pay the bills? This isn't a third-world country and this sort of thing shouldn't happen. I'm grateful to Secret Santa, but this is a clear case of a broken society.

There are so many kids in south America and the States who need to work to pay the bills because the American System is terrible and lets ppl become homeless for outrageous costs of hospital bills and housing

To be perfectly honest... And with all due respect... I graduated 10 years ago... And the ONLY things I have EVER had to use in my life is... Reading... Basic Addition and Subtraction... And The Multiplication Table up to 12... Which is everything you learn by the 6th grade... Which Isaiah is MUCH older than...
I'm not saying for him to NEVER go back and NOT to Get his diploma... Which he most definitely deserves... I'm saying there are FAR more important things in his life...
I feel the same way! I’m glad he got something but when others get new cars or money in gas cards and big checks, this just doesn’t feel like enough at all. It's wonderful that Secret Santa provided rent and groceries - but I wonder if that's enough for the kid to be able to go back to school. Agreed. He should take at least one class, even if it's online, in order to stay in the groove. Taking time off can sometimes lead to not going back for a long time, if ever, or can make it hard to get back in sync with everything.

I watch all of the wonderful Secret Santa episodes. This one really touched me. Would love to see this amazing man able to get back in school. Not everybody enters university at age 18. There are many young people like him who have no choice but to leave the public school system in order to survive. They then go on to university degrees and good lives but at a slightly altered educational trajectory. It's reprehensible that you believe his future is limited by a temporary and necessary absence from public schools. He's motivated, and a hard working kid who clearly has priorities in the right order. Unless you don't eat pizza or food that others cook for you, don't crap all over his efforts. Hopefully you never find yourself in a position of having sacrifice yourself like he is. This kid is trying to fill adult responsibilities, and it appears he's doing a damn fine job of it.

Very happy for him and his family. I too have gone through his struggles. Back when I was in my late teens,I almost didn't graduate from high school because I chose to work to support my folks. But luckily things got better for them that they convinced me to go back and graduate as the first person in my entire family.

With the rent paid for 6 months and much of the groceries taken care of, this means any money earned from Isaiah working full time can mostly be saved, for when he *does* go back to school when his mother is better and can get back to work again.
You can tell that with Isaiah's attitude, work ethic and overall upbeat and mature character he will go far in life.
This gift from SS will also help mum to heal faster as she won't be so worried about her son, not feel so guilty (not that she ought to,) about the situation they find themselves in. Stress literally slows down healing.
