My tip is Don't be afraid to leave the Iron on the board longer. Keep in mind most of the board conductive and it will pull the heat throughout the whole board. It's super hard to actually burn the board, and you need those to get super hot for it to actually pull the solder in. I had the same issue when i started soldering onto newer boards.
