For those of you that had never been in Oaxaca it is absolutely beautiful and the mole has to be the best dish in the world there many varieties but if you ever have a chance to go you will never want to leave I have been all over the world and by far the best food in the land it is a magical place thanks Mark!!!!
if u think about it, there's tons of similarities between mexican food and soul food. the tastes and the ingredients. this is coming from a young black girl that grew up watching my grandma cook. i am half native american and half black. i love soul food!
@@BRACKUS001 I used to visit El Paso with a very close friend of mine and he would take me to his family’s home and I have never had anything like his moms cooking it was out of this world.
Mark, Im just out of words. Looking at you being so amazed and respectful at our culture... Its amazing. I still remember my great grandmother making mole from scratch 😍
Im filipino and this video makes me smile and cry at the same time. i have adopted the hispanic culture in me and im happy watching this video.i love all my mexican friends and family
I lived in Oaxaca while studying at UNAM and the mole is amazing as all the food. The chapulines are just as delicious too. Mole with homemade tortillas de maíz y una Coca familiar bien fría es lo máximo! Y no se diga de la gente! Hermosos todos.
Did anyone notice at 9:26 how the older gentleman, likely the woman's husband, sat down with his wife and helped prepare the chilies. If folks would like a "top 5 things" to a long lasting marriage - that is definitely one of them. It warmed my heart to see it.
Keith Henson that old guy is my grandfather also that isn't his wife his wife/my grandma died a long time ago when my mom was like 15 I never got to meet her May she rest in peace
I saw that too! And a very similar thought crossed my mind as well. He sat down and helped her with a pretty tedious task not only without being asked, but as if out of habit. If more men did this many marriages/people would be a lot better off.
I'm smiling all the way to the end of the video. Mexico reminds me of my country Philippines, feels like they are sister countries our cultures are so alike.
Actually we are, we both were conquered by Spain and when we won our independences, we were already a mixture of our respective local and spaniard culture. We are your brothers from the west, and you are our brothers from the east. Greetings from Mexico!
21whichiswhich ...Yes, very true and I have had similar thoughts...both countries love dance, singing, romance, food, and both thrive on hospitality. Yet, there is a different feel...can't explain it.
WOW. Now I understand why are Latino families are so so close. It take a family to make a meal. As a senior I remember those days in our family. This bring me to tears. Thanks Mark.
They are in fact zapotecs not latinos. This people are native and spoke native lenguage and spoke spanish too. México is so diverse that the word "latino" can be unacurrate.
Many people do not know, but in Oaxaca, women are the ones who rule the house, there is matriarchy in most of Oaxaca, especially in the center and coast. That's why it's normal to see men helping in the kitchen.
Cómo no te va a encantar el "MOLE" si es uno de los platillos que más representa a México, es delicioso y no existe comparación en el mundo entero!! 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻...
I'm Dominican and I must say I love Mexican food and love trying out different things but what I like most about Mexico is how heartwarming they are into bringing people into their home and making them feel like a part of the family ps I have amazing Mexican friends ❤️❤️❤️ QUE VIVA MEXICO !!!
I can verify Mole is one of the most delicious dishes on Earth. Seriously, it's SO GOOD! I'd pay this family a lot of money to cook up this tasty food. Such lovely people there in Mexico. Love from Texas!
When she asked "how do I ask him if he wants more" that reminded me of my grandmothers back in el Rancho. They were always feeding me and if I told them I was full they would give me more lol. I thank god that I've experienced Mexico like this. It's a very powerful feeling of happiness. Thank you for making your amazing videos sir.
Love and respect goes out to all who hand prepared this meal for this video! A lot of love and hard work goes into preparing a dish like this and that's what makes it so delicious. My love for Mexican food runs deep! Great video.
What a beautiful country and even more beautiful, kind people! As an Indian, I see quite some similarities visually but I am sure Mexico holds much more than what we can see. It's my dream to visit this lovely country and meet the amazing people there. The people seem so homely, down to earth and full of love❤️
Ramya Venkatkrishnan .....I keep seeing these kind of comments. We Latinos have Western standards and Western cultures, Hispanics across the board are 95% Christian. ......The truth is Indians are Easterners and have more in common with Muslim Arabs than they do with Christians and Westerners. .......(don't let the superficial asthetics influence your emotions, actually we have little to nothing in common besides physical features....) ....we both like spice, big whoop
Nina Xeon Nope she was probably very happy to have this guy for dinner. A lot of Mexican cultures do as the sons say and never say no to them. If a daughter invited him it would of been a whole different story.
I'm Mexican, but live in Chicago. I'm surrounded by Persian restaurants. I've tried fesenjan a few times & it really did remind me of mole. Only it's a little on the sour/tamarind tasting.
Watching this video made my mouth water! No joke! Chicken and mole is, by far, my favorite Mexican dish. Its something my grandmother made when I was young, so this really took me back. I'm 53 now and I can't tell you how much I miss those days of being at grandmas house when she worked for hours to make this delicious dish. I love you grandma, and thank you.
Mark, besides your extraordinary adventures and mouth watering food experiences you bring us in each video, your humanity and kindness to all people is admirable. If only everyone treated all people as you do then we would see a world in a more peaceful harmony. God bless you and your lovely family!
I agree! I can see myself living through Mark's adventures! Mark makes me want to be there and experience the world with him, his family and friends! He is honorable and kind and treats all the people he meets on his travels with respect. He is like a breath of fresh air in the world of food and cooking shows! Please don't lose your individually in the mix!
I am Swiss and lived in Switzerland most of my life ... my mother was Mexican (and my father Swiss german) .. I remember when she was doing Mole , she often invited many people for dinner. High level dinners with high level and well dressed people. For the occasion, sometimes she was doing Mole. What you see from this guy, like this impatience, an "overdone" emotion of expectation and at 24:50 his attitude ... is all true !! that is how i was feeling with my brother about the Mole of my mom. Ohh gosh .. .and the worse is that she was always doing waaaaaay more than needed because we would eat Mole for some more days for us, the family, at home. But sometimes, it was so good ... that invited people would still finish it ... meaning eating like 3 times what an adult would eat !! big was our frustration .. and sometimes she felt forced to make Mole again ... for us, the family. understanding our frustration. Mole is a unique dish ... truly unique. There is no such other dish in the world. I am 57yrs old, traveled A LOT in the world, ... My prefered foods are : Chateaubriand ... (french meat), Pekin lacked duck (China) ... well prepared caviar (with all the preparation and toasts) .... coocked and steamed lam from Azerbaidjan, In Qatar they did the same style of lam) ..... B U T my PREFERED DISH is chicken M O L E with frijoles and tortillas. The best dish in the word. Any mole will make it ... but the Oaxacan mole will just kill you.. THE BEST FOOD IN THE WORLD. (And again ... i traveled well , i truly lived on 4 continents (no Australia) and tried so many foods ... . . PS and Mexicans are amazing how they invite you at home ... : my casa es su casa .. is absolutely true.
@bina nocht Frijoles are cooked beans - usually Pinto-type beans - , seasoned with salt and a couple of other ingredients for flavoring ( like garlic/onion, an herb or two). The Mexican herb epazote is usually added to beans while cooking, to counteract gas production in your digesting; it has a flavor too.
@@unusuario5173 when we or friends were going to Mexico for holidays. No internet, or international ordering at the time. So when a friend would go, she would bring back for the others.
I'm Mexican and even to me mole is always a Fiesta dish, there are different types of mole but poblano and Oaxaqueno moles are at the top. Great culinary culture in my country, everybody is welcome. No kidding when they say mexican culture is one of the warmest in the world.
I gotta admit, I cried a little. Watching my home town on your video. That is Oaxaca for ya'll. Mi Oaxaca lindo y querido. Yes Mole is the best💕 I'm glad you got to experience Oaxacan Mole💙
"Ayer me hubieras dicho y ya hubiera ido a comprar todo" "Pero pues yo no sabía" "Pues si..." Jajajajaja el chico de la van no se salvó de la regañada que le pegó la mamá por no avisarle con más tiempo
My friend, u officially became Mexican when u cleaned that plate with ur white corn tortilla 29:12👏👏👏👏🇲🇽such kind eyes portraying excitement and amazement for my beautiful Mexican culture and country 😊 proud to be Mexican!
That's very true! I see many similarities between Mexican and Arabs. We always want to feed our guests and we treats our guests like kings and queens ❤
My mom was born in this exact village. I remember as a kid her telling me stories how she grew up and the different types of food she ate. My mother was a great cook and worked in the restuarant business for twenty years. Thank you for this amazing video it reminds of her.
I stayed in Teotitlan de Valle in the early 80's. During the Danza de la Pluma fiesta the family made their Mole sauce with fresh chicken blood! We ate mole, tamales, and drank pulque for a week. Those were the days!!
The good people of Mexico are some of the best people in all the world. I absolutely miss experiences like this. Thank you, Mark for sharing this experience. Thank you Javier, Mom, and Family. The most memorable experiences while traveling are unplanned. AMAZING!
What a beautiful, welcoming person the mom is. How kind of her to make a mole for Mark without even knowing him. It was cute how she told her son "If you had told me sooner, I would have gone to buy all of the ingredients!" And her son is all, "I didn't know this was going to happen!" 😂😂😂
Terra Nova most mexican moms are like that😂my in laws are the same. welcomed me with open arms and served me whatever i wanted. great people in the small towns! its a shame the drug war is the only thing in the news....because 80% of mexican people are just like this. welcoming and kind
Brittanya Hope Milagro exactly!!! But the news is very much at fault. I spent a few weeks in various parts of Mexico recently and it was amazing! However I did notice that the news in Mexico does to its citizens what USA news does to us. Anyone who watches news in Mexico would think that if we stick our heads out the door of our homes a terrorist will blow us up! And we see that in Mexico you will be shot by a cartel if you set foot there. It’s all exaggerated on both sides...BIG TIME! I as well as many other tourists I encountered while in Mexico had a FANTASTIC TIME! I was walking in the plaza at 11:00 pm with a bunch of other people eating delicious food, talking, and laughing. It was great! Can’t wait to go back at the end of the year
This came up in my feed, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The Mexican culture is so diverse. My Mexican friends speaks 4 languages; 2 indigenous from Vera Cruz, Spanish and English. I've been exposed to the cuisine and people for about 20 yrs now and I love them. They are loyal, generous and the food is much more than many of us thought. Please include Mexico in your prayers. God bless Mexico forever! 🇲🇽
Salty.. I agree with you 100%..when it comes to food or feeding someone.my grandma always said If I can feed 8 kids then I can feed 10.she never turned anyone away.i love my culture 😍😍I grew up around people who I thought were blood relatives.turned out they were friends who became family
I’m mexican and I was so happy when reading all of the nice comments and the guy on the video being so happy of being there. I had never watched anyone make mole form scratch, my mom just buyed the paste haha. They live on a poor place, but they still be so generous sharing what they know with him, and him with us. God bless this people and ths guy. 💕
👍🌶 Yes outstanding people. The lady stopped what she was doing, got dressed, went with strangers to the store, at home summoned her husband and other family and just started cooking. Heck I asked someone last year if they could make me patty enchiladas for my bday- yup... that was last year and I'm still waiting.
Im mexican. But ive never been to oaxaca or had an experience quite like yours. Im a lil envious right now. Lol. But i had a oaxacan neighbor a few years back. Ive had mole made from scratch and its so delicious. Corn tortillas and mole are a gift from God
This was my favorite episode. Love the wonderful Mexican family. How kind of them to spend all day cooking such amazing food for you. Mexican people are special.
Kathleen Heinick that was very nice of them but they also got paid. do you think they would make Molle at a moment's notice without getting paid. I don't know if your people are under listed or you just really are out of touch with reality. but yes they were very hospitable most definitely won't take nothing away from that or the video itself. the same comment it's just been said over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again these comments seem to be disingenuous
As a chef this video literally brought tears to my eyes everything that went into this meal the outdoor kitchen what amazing family very humbling to watch 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Wow I honestly wasn't expecting some many different nationalities to be so moved and amazed of Hispanic culture. Reading the comments here bring me some much joy and appreciation for my family
How generous of this woman to do this for you. Your whole trip to Mexico I've seen nothing but kindness and generosity. I am so happy that you filmed this whole process. It was amazing to watch her make the Mole'. I loved everything but the grasshoppers. What a wonderful adventure through Mexico. Off the beaten path, to places no one has seen or heard of. Thank you for taking us with you.

My mom is your craziest fan. She has watched ALL your videos and calls you, "her son". She gets very excited when I tell her you just uploaded a new video....HAHA! You're very humble and meek. We love Micah and your family. God bless you.
I’ve been watching Mark’s videos for about two years now and this is the first time I’ve authentically felt jealous. Not even Kobe beef or the best pieces of otoro made me want to really experience firsthand. This is just truly unique and makes me want to go to Oaxaca.
As a Mexican, this guy is very lucky to be invited by this familia to enjoy their home made Mole. I can smell it and taste it just by watching this video. Thank you for this video I cant wait to make it myself. And thank you the this Familia, very lovely and so heart warming to see their hospitality being shared with a stranger and make him feel like he is part of the family.
My Mexican friend named Maribel made me Mole Negro from scratch one time and yes it’s a lot of ingredients and a lot of work. When she was done almost 4-5 hours later.. The results,OMG. One of the best sauces I ever had on top of chicken. Finger licking good.I almost licked the plate. It was fantastic..
This brings the light of pure joy to my heart that you were so fortunate to actually have found the root authenticity of the negro mole, that u can only get from that NATIVE hand. With it seems like so little effort.tells u alot about this part of the world n its peoples!

There’s no similar way to make mole, every state and family do it differently. I would love to try fesenjun :)

I am curious: where did your mom get the ingredients in Europe?
They're not easy to get even in the USA.
