Waaaait a minute! Bleach OP 1 but video plays OP 2!
You WILL understand why people hate something from SAO.
Its literally based on Ranobe that each volume has different arks, and some of them are not that good.
I think you should consider to check out Utawarerumono series Op, Ed, &Ost
React to Otaku Lyrics 101-701
Please watch Tsurune and Ballroon Yokosou openings, are 2 for yeach one.
You're correct, anime with guns & sci-fi themes were HUGE in the past. You just dont get that 80s cyberpunk look like Bubblegum Crisis, Dirty Pair, ect. anymore
or space westerns like outlaw or cowboy bepop
@@FierceDietyLink100 quite true, a shame those types of shows have died off for the most part
@@APrinnyDood they didnt die out because the fans forgot them, its cause some dunces on the top decided that no one likes them...like firefly on fox.. from the get go it was sabotaged...bad time slot, mixed up episodes and cut season ..
@@TheNakorius on this case is big companies trying to push their isekai novels like kodokawa or bandai literally blocking any mecha anime to keeping their monopoly on the mecha merchandise
Cyberpunk look? You mean like akudama drive?
To be precise the Dragon Ball anime came out in 1986 and Z came out in 1989. If its a sports anime you want then I will never stop recommending Slam Dunk. Sure its pretty dated being an early 90s anime but anyone and everyone will tell you that its an absolute classic
True, this franchise is ancient and even puts the 90s classics like Sailor Moon in their place.
i was so mad they didnt finish slam dunk tho i liked it a lot but as soon as hanamichi started actually being a good player it all the sudden ended. its a great series with a bad ending i would skip the anime entirely and just read the manga.
Slam Dunk better to check the original manga because like other too popular anime those years(dragon ball, captain tsubasa, saint seiya...), they make is very slow since they had to wait for the author updating the original manga or just for their best comercial profits.
For sports anime I'd also recommend Hajime No Ippo
It's a good boxing series though it's age is showing 😅
Just adding that the release date of the Dragonball manga happened a few years earlier in 1984.
Lupin III is a popular old but never ending series like Gundam. Last iteration (part 6 aired in 2021) and it has had a classic Miyazaki directed film. Lupin III Castle of cagliostro
actually there part 0 on hidive also
Not only that, Miyazaki's first big outings as a director was when he was asked to take over the 2nd half of the first Lupin III TV series (1971). Miyazaki's take with Lupin as a more goofy character perpetuated into the 2nd series (1977) (also making Fujiko a little bit more of an rival instead of only a pretty damsel in distress) and was cemented as a gold standard for the franchise when Miyazakí's first feature length film cam out in 1979: Lupin III Castle of Cagliostro.
Saint Seiya is not really a mech anime. It's a very influential anime from back then, about guys who happen to be the representation of zodiac symbols duking it out. Here in Spain it was the most popular anime of the late 80s and, mostly, first third of the 90s along with Dragon Ball.
Sprung out the entire wacky armor design era after it. Lots of 90s fantasy genre armor designs inspired by Saint Seiya.
mainstream sports -
Hajime no Ippo (boxing)
Eyeshield 21 (american football)
Slam Dunk (basketball)
obscure "sports" -
Kaleido Star (acrobatics/circus olay)
Chihayafuru (karuta)
Hikaru no Go (go)
racing -
Initial D (racing)
Wangan Midnight (racing)
Hajime no ippo and slam dunk r fuking great shows
Gotta chime in to shout out haykyuu and 3-gatsu no lion (march comes in like a lion). Also slam dunk probably my fav sports anime
Going to add a second vote for Chihayafuru as the best "non-conventional sports" sports anime.
For others:
Ace in the Diamond (baseball)
Ookiku Furikabutte (tl: Big Windup) (baseball)
Giant Killing (soccer)
NOTE: Yes, I'm aware Blue Lock is the current hotness in soccer anime, but I'd argue that's a "superpower shounen" anime using soccer as a medium whereas Giant Killing is a true "sports anime" about soccer.
@@everfall8886THANK YOU for remembering 3-gatsu no lion, damn people really slept on that masterpiece 😭
OMG gonna rewatch Chihayafuru in 3rd time 😭😭😭

Fist Of The North Star, my beloved
Bubblegum Crisis has such fantastic music that they released an entire official music video anime for it.
The reason you feel like Dragonball and Pokemon was close to eachother is because Dragonball wasn't released in the west until mid 90's while Pokemon was realesed almost at the same time in the west as was in Japan.
Gundam is an interesting case. It was definitely not the most popular anime of 1979. The original Gundam didn't hit it big until later, when the rebroadcast got higher ratings than the original run, and the compilation films made bank at the box office. What really kept Gundam going in the early years was that it achieved its primary objective of selling model kits. Back in the day, model kit sales were how mecha anime made money for their investors...and why they kept on making mecha anime.
Indeed, the compilation movies (1981, 1981 & 1982) fell on fertile soil (and are good movies on it's own: cutting a lot of the production mess of the TV series away for a shorter but clearer story & theme). It really hit big when Tomino came out with 1985's Zeta Gundam.
You should react to Super Sentai all opening from 1975 to 2024 ....
See the evolution of Japanese music in one specific series over the course of nearly 50 years
Oh it would be nice if he can react to tokusatsu in general.
City hunter, Bubble gum crisis, Cowboy bebop. memories
Oshi No Ko was extremely popular last year.
Your basing what's popular on your Western Perspective what matters in popularity is what's popular in Japan.
No, not at all. When people talk about what's popular, they're talking about overall popularity unless otherwise specified. Since Japan isn't the only country in the world that consumes anime and the rest of the world has a lot more people, it's not the sole arbitor of what's popular or not. You're obviously also ignoring that the West is not a monolith nor the only part of the world that is not Japan.
@@AdBlock-xl3tt Japan is what matters both in terms of sales and who consumes anime.
@@dpolaristar4634 No, you're just being delusional. Japan makes up 40 % of the global market, meaning the rest of the world makes up 60 % of the market. Given you seem to define the entirety of the world outside of Japan as "the west (presumably derogatory)", it would obviously have a major impact on overall sales and number of anime consumers. You're giving off major weeaboo vibes by denying reality in the way you're doing.
If we had been talking about business decisions, then sure, japanese anime are typically made with the domestic market in mind. Nobody was talking about that though, in fact nobody was talking about financial success at all besides you. In terms of popularity, popularity is what matters. Again something "the west" or whatever you want to call it has a major impact on, especially given you also have to consider piracy in regions where anime isn't made legally or readily accessible. Anyway, here are the stats in case you're curious, though I encourage you to do further research on your own.
www.grandviewresearch.com/industry-analysis/anime-market
@@dpolaristar4634 This is such a backward way of viewing things, anytime anyone makes videos based on popularity its done broad scope of whats popular globally or its based on whats popular to the content creator. Tracking whats popular using a minority statistic doesnt makes sense no matter how you look at it unless youre specifically looking for whats popular in japan lol. Weebs I swear.
FYI, some of the earlier anime franchises like Lupin the 3rd(the 1977 anime opening in this video) are still ongoing these days.
didn't put a censor on goku's winkie lmao
Mecha were hot in 80s-90s (Gundam, Macross, Gunbuster, Evangelion), in 2000s we got some good mecha (Eureka, Gurren Laggan, Code Geass) and nowdays there are barely any.
I highly suggest Bravern. It has been surprising and has a banger of an opening. I feel it doesn't get talked about enough.
Agel Beats f*cking broke me! All those emotions that I buried long ago came flooding back!
😳
Maybe it's time to watch an anime from the 80s - 90s. Bubble Gum Crisis / Cowboy Bebop / Neon Genesis Evangelion and there are even more good anime from that time. But I would recommend watching the anime movie Akira (from 1988) first. The anime has influenced so many animes and movies. Even in this day and age.
You can find Akira references in anime from time to time.
Space Cobra is a very cinematic pulpy sci fi show.
Note: There's a BIG difference between "the most popular anime" openings and the most popular "anime openings". This list seems to be the former.
For example, Sousei no Aquarion (2005) was not a very popular anime, but its opening was HUGE. I'd argue its opening was on par if not better than AIR, which was what this list used for 2005, but AIR was the "most popular anime" of the year because it was the highly anticipated adaptation of a highly popular visual novel from the same VN team that made Clannad, Kanon, Little Busters, Angel Beats, and Charlotte (among others).
In other words, AIR's OP was popular _because_ of AIR's popularity. Aquarion's OP was popular _despite_ Aquarions unpopularity.
And for those of you who want to fight me on this, do you really think "Hero's Come Back" (Naruto Shippuden) was a more popular "anime opening" than "Motteke! Sailor Fuku" (Lucky Star) in 2007? You couldn't go 10 minutes in an anime convention from 2007 through 2009 without someone making an "I like sausage" joke. Naruto Shippuden was arguably the "most popular anime" in 2007 because it's the highly anticipated sequel to a super shounen. Super shounen ALWAYS top the anime popularity charts.
Other iconic 2007 openings that are undisputedly more popular openings than "Hero's Come Back" but less popular anime than Naruto Shippuden include: "Guns & Roses" (Baccano), "Allegro Cantabile Sound" (Nodame Cantabile), and "Naraku no Hana" (OP2 of Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni).
Likewise for 2008: Was "Blue Bird" (again, Naruto Shippuden) really a more popular OPENING than: "Tabi no Tochuu" (Spice & Wolf), "Kuso Rumba" (Zoku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei), "Resonance" (Soul Eater), "PSI Missing" (Toaru Majutsu no Index), or "Pure Parade" (Toradora)?
@@dragonbretheren yes im not even a naruto fan and yes that song was way more popular than lucky star. you dont seem to understand that being a popular anime means more ppl will listen to those openings and a lot of ppl wont even hear ones that arent as popular which by proxy makes it a more popular song. lucky star didnt have a high enough fanbase for its song to be considered top tier bc a lot of ppl never heard it even once and im one of those ppl never even heard the lucky star op. same with aquarion the show was not as popular so not as many ppl even heard the song. im sorry but your completely wrong. but im sure youll go on forever trying to act like you dont understand what im saying even though its common sense so i wont be responding or reading your replies. lol
I can agree on "Hero's come back" but "Blue Bird" was insaaanely popular. I'd argue that these years had too many iconic ops to choose from so compromises had to be made.
Can't speak for anyone but myself, but at least for me AIR's opening is what got me to watch that anime years ago, not it's connections to any other anime/manga. The clouds and the opening are pretty much all I remember about it now. As far as Sousei no Aquarion, I've never heard of that before. Only heard of Aquarion Evol, and I've never seen that.
That said, apparently the ranking criteria varies a bit throughout the list, with older stuff being based more on popularity in Japan and newer stuff including things like RUclips video views, I guess. That's based on a comment made by a person that helped make the list, who acknowledges the list is not perfect.
@@RageKage987 I know you said you're not going to listen to anything I rebut with, but to be fair, I will concede that by raw views, "Hero's Come Back" has 95M views across 17 videos on RUclips, whereas "Motteke Sailor Fuku has 47M views accross 66+ videos on RUclips.
So, yes - just by raw views, "Hero's Come Back" has been viewed more. However, if we look into potential skewing factors, 50% of HCB were via official music channels (Sony Music and Crunchyroll Official), which are SIGNIFICANTLY more favored by the algorithm, whereas 0% of MSF's views were official channels. Obviously Sony Music is going to be served to more raw viewers than "Nitoheifeline".
If we look at the types of videos, most of HCB's 17 videos were just raw postings of the song, with only 4 of the 17 being fan covers. This does tell us more people are interested in just re-listening to it as a song compared to MSF, which I will concede is a perfectly fine way to measure popularity.
By contrast, MSF had 52 of its 66 videos that were fan projects (covers, remixes, mashups, animations, live dances, playing on OSU/BeatSaber/Stepmania, etc). Which means more fans were eager to engage and create content with MSF than with HCB, which I would argue is a more relevant metric to the popularity of an OP than algorithm-driven view counts. Note also that I cut off from this count any videos under 1k views, and the uncountable and uncateloguable number of shorts of people dancing to the song.
Additionally, MSF has content continuously spanning the past 16 years, including videos 8 years ago, 6 years ago, 2 years ago, even several created this year. In fact, the only years MSF didn't have some fan video come out with over 100k views is 2017 and 2021. This shows that it has staying power and is still culturally relevant as an OP to this day.
DISCLAIMER: I omitted reaction videos from both counts for HCB and MSF as they are more heavily driven by the corresponding React channel's audience size than people who came specifically to engage with these songs.
HCB's count was cut off once I hit 10 consecutive unrelated videos (indicating that no more videos specifically related to HCB could be found by the algorithm).
MSF's count was cut off once I hit 10 consecutive videos under 1k views (indicating the range that were no longer going to significantly affect the view count, but would quickly inflate the "videos created" count; in good faith, I cut the count here to reduce the impact of my own side's argument).
In summary:
Hero's Come Back = More overall views
Motteke Sailor Fuku = More fan engagement
Both are perfectly reasonable stances to take to define "most popular song", but I (personally) argue for the latter.
New trailer for Re:Zero Season 3 is out please consider reacting to it 🙏
We don't usually do trailer reactions, as much as I want to see it
Saint Seya's opening is so famous in Brazil (the translated version) that the original singer learned the Brazilian version and sang it in an anime event in São Paulo a few years ago, like 4 or 5 yo
Saint Seiya is famous in all of Latin America
In China is very famous too.
New re:zero trailer btw you should react to it if you haven't already
I don't think we will be reacting to it, I never do trailer reactions just to avoid spoilers usually.
But I will be there when it drops 💯💯
@@GOTGames that's unfortunate to hear, at least it won't be long till it comes out.
Re:lease Date October 2024
@@GOTGames That's funny, you barely remember things that you saw couple minutes ago and even there're spoilers in trailer when the new season starts you probably won't remember them anyway.
yeah, mech anime has a long history... also, hell yes, Lupin III is actually fantastic. it's like Scooby Doo with more smoking, drinking, drugs, sex, and violence. but in like a fun way. idk, it's real weird.
anyway! I've been getting into a bit more mech stuff lately, including some Gundam! but also, once again... I cannot recommend Bang Brave Bang Bravern enough! it's such a weird show, but it's also a perfect homage to the genre. the last episode of the season comes out on thursday and I'm already climbing the walls in anticipation.
also, god, if pokemon wasn't 1997, it definitely would've been Revolutionary Girl Utena. in terms of Japanese OP, I actually prefer that song to the pokemon one, even for as formative as pokemon was to me. and man, I don't know if an older anime can win against modern titles in terms of votes, but what. I. would. not. GIVE. to see you react to Revolutionary Girl Utena. that show is gorgeous, and takes so much deciphering, it's like a good meal to my brain. bottomless pit of a thing. I love it.
Ah, always nice to see fellow Bravern enjoyer.
@@cutman25604 yes! I've been enjoying it so much... liking Bravern is just good taste. 😁
The aincrad arc of sword art online was pretty great. I think people just mostly didn't like how it ended and then how the show continued. They also don't like the Kirito archetype and all the clones it spawned.
Kirito is a horrendous Gary Stu of a character, but the premise of the show is pretty good.
I think you guys forgot that it was supposed to be an MMO but is pretty shit at that end. Lol
Yeah Aincrad arc is the best one. No wonder he does not understand the hate yet !
11:35 oh, AIR... do not watch it if you do not want to be destroyed. its all im gonna say.
Gao~~~
Same goes for anything from KEY Visual Works: Kanon, Clannad, Angel Beats, Little Busters, Charlotte, and more. That company is basically the go-to for "We're going to make you cry like a newborn baby" visual novels and corresponding anime adaptations.
@@dragonbretheren so true
@@dragonbretheren Yeah, I've been playing through Kanon and have 2 routes left, I thought I was prepared knowing most of KEYs works but no every route so far has made me cry
Also Airs opening is easily 10/10 same for most KEY works and especially Lia OPs really
@@dragonbretheren Angel Beats is the weakest link in their catalogue, but the music in that show almost makes it worth it alone.
There is no way they could have the data to support this from that far back. Has to have a lot of bias on what anime was most popular or which have the most views on youtube.
Also react to Fist of the North Star's opening and full. YOU WA SHOCK!
I guess your favorite is not in the list huh?
@@rvblaze2006 What are you on about xD
@@rvblaze2006 Most of them are. Can't I question how you decide which anime opening was most popular each year pre-internet days?
This most popular of anime openings is controversial, e.g. Gundam. "Mobile Suit Gundam originally aired on the Nagoya Broadcasting Network. Much like the original Star Trek, the original Gundam was not appreciated by its initial audience, and also like Star Trek, proceeded to spawn a massive sci-fi franchise, spawning numerous sequels, model kits, and video-games up to the present day."(Gundam wiki)...
Music charts have literally existed for a long time. I don’t see how they can’t trace it back.
Hey! Old OPs!
Weird to look back and remember Gundam started so Transformers-ish. "Core Fighter docks to make Gundam!"
Space Pirate Harlock is by Leiji Matsumoto of Galactic Railroad (same universe) and Space Battleship Yamato (and he had thoughts of making that a shared universe story too).
The creator of Sailor Moon is married to the creator of Hunter x Hunter. He's also quite ill now, sadly. He also did Yu Yu Hakusho before HxH, and it's a writing course in how to do an anime tournament arc.
Nadia! It's Jules Verne as done by studio Gainax, much like Evangelion is robot anime done by Gainax. Great show, but the middle few episodes where the scripts were stolen by pranking workers caused what Hideaki Anno called 'bad chaos'.
If you've ever heard of a Disney movie called Atlantis: The Lost Empire, it has long been alleged that the producers cribbed a lot of the movie's plot and characters from Nadia: Secret of Blue Water, given how close the plots, character designs, and adherence to the source material they both are.
Wasn't Harlock also part of the Gun Frontier universe?
Yeah, looks like that. I remember an original plot for Yamato had the reveal Kodai's brother was Harlock but that was one of the things dropped when the original 52-episode order was cut to 39, then 26.
The one that you thought sounded familiar was by Anri, one of my favorite artists ever and was widely regarded as one of the top city pop artists of her time. As far as I know only Cat's Eye was ever featured in an anime, so probably not a lot of "reactable" content there for your channel specifically. But if you do get the chance I would highly recommend listening to her album TIMELY!! in your own time (hehe see what I did there?). It's the album that Cat's Eye was on and is a masterpiece from front to back.
4:46
"Saint Seiya... Another like mech looking anime"
YOU MEAN YOU NEVER WATCHED IT?
OR IS IT JUST A "Oh, so that's the Japanese name"?
* Sees I got a ❤️ *
THAT DOESN'T ANSWER MY QUESTION BRO
Lol
Animes from the 70s and 80s were extremely popular in my home country México since their licenses were cheap, they all became classics, Candy Candy is one of the greatest drama animes you could see, Captain Harlock is badass and there are still new movies coming out of Lupin the Third and Gundam, I mean, the original anime was not popular and was about to bomb, until they released several OVAs to finish the original stories. Back at the 70s and 80s the big two ways of mecha was born, the Real one were it was all about the horrors of war and Super were it was pure hotblooded.
Cobra is a Space Opera and the guy has a cannon for arm, the manga and anime are revered in Japan, like, absolutely loved even now.
And about Saint Seiya, it was called as Knights of the Zodiac in latinamerica and it is HUGE, like absolutely huge here!
Yes, Angel Beats was very popular!! It's one of those anime that balances comedy and emotional beats VERY well and made most people who watched it sob like little babies by the end. It's a one-season, 13-episode anime, so nothing too time-consuming to get into. You could binge it in a day or two if you really wanted. It's one of those staples of anime that I think anyone should watch!
Dragon Ball is 1984 for the manga, and the anime was 1986. 1989 was the beginning of Z ^_^
I think the confusion might come from the fact that Dragon Ball Z became popular in the US much later than other places, no?
Yep, Dragon Ball Z came out in North America in 1996.
@@Kamakiri86 Plus, wasn't that version the shitty voice acted one? Didn't the much more popular funimation come out in the early 2000's?
@@Artahe You're thinking of the original DB dub, that came out before DBZ, that was like 8 episodes and called Goku "Zero". After the success of DBZ they re-dubed and re-released the original DB.
@@Kamakiri86 Oh, ok. So technically DBZ became a popular thing in the US BEFORE the OG?
Luke you’re honestly so awesome😂that realisation of what 2024s best op would be was hilarious.
you want to watch a racing anime ?
Watch Initial D
it's freaking awesome
and seriously the race aspect is really good
To answer Luke's question, I'd recommend Initial D as best racing anime to watch and Hajime no Ippo as best sports anime.
Angel Beats was also very popular as an anime when it came out, not just the opening. Can't wait for you to react to it, i'm sure you'll enjoy it greatly! xD
I'm glad you learned a lot from this list! And I agree, it's time you go through LiSA's long history of amazing music! Song anime openings she has done in the past you should listen to include 'Rising Hope', 'Rally Go Round' and 'Träumerei', but you should react to some of her other releases as well, like 'Empty Mermaid', 'Little Devil Parade' and 'RUNAWAY'! Don't forget to react to all her SAO Openings and Endings when you complete the series!
I love T.M Revolution and all vocal music from the '80s bubble gum crisis.
> sees City Hunter
> starts to get the feels
> has to listen to the entire OST again
> even more feels
You likely won't read this but you should watch City Hunter, let alone listen to the OST
You'll see a weird increase of French viewers if you do that, the Anime was really popular there
Tokyo Ghoul is 10 years old now and they teased new stuff so we might get a Tokyo Ghoul remake.
Do people really like Bling-Bang-Bang-Born as a song or only the Chorus?
You really need react to anime openings from 80's - 90's like Saint Seiya, Yu Yu hakusho, Dragon Ball etc.
I been asking him to react to Saint Seiya since forever 😂😂😂
/he has done dragonball, but I still want him to react to "rock the dragon" the english opening
Absolutely!
one thing to note about "most popular" lists . they never reflect whole anime. they are almost always reflection if it's creator preferences though
i would make completly different list unted similar criteria, and probably anyone would have at least few years where top pick would be completly different
Yeah my 2000's portion of the list would replace most Attack on Titan, One Piece, Naruto, and Hero Academia with stuff like Monogatari, Steins;Gate, Fate, Clannad, Tatami Galaxy, etc. Also no K-On is just laughable. Omitting it in a "most popular" list is objectively incorrect. The show started a literal social shift in Japanese high schools lol.
Also where's Haruhi? Lucky Star?
@@ahoyforsenchou7288 higurashi, azumanga eureka seven there is a list of missed cult clasics nobody made and it is long :P
Also the wonderful era of English dub openings never gets included. People make fun of the 4kids One Piece like gangbusters but the One Piece rap is actually kinda a banger. Also, the Pokemon opening is kinda iconic for the early era of US weebs.
Eh, Kuma kinda hates mech/sci-fi shows and there were about a dozen or so on this list.
So that does lend it some credibility, cause they very, very rarely include that sort of stuff.
@@bemusedbandersnatch2069 ranma ova's blue gender, key the metal idol and thenchi universe are my favorite dubed openings

Wait, Luke saying he reacted to multiple Gundam OPs? WHEN?!? Been waiting for that for a while! Was it a stream that was never uploaded or Patreon exclusive? Man I got excited for a min seeing the OG Gundam in the thumbnail thinking it was finally here just to find out he did it already?
I know he did Witch from Mercury and one live song from Unicorn, when did he do Zeta and Seed?
I don't think he reacted to them, he checked out Which from Mercury openings, but I think he might have forgotten he never watched them 😅 But I might have missed something too
I've been waiting for unicorn ops and eds reaction for over a year 😂.
@@solastro5595 Me too, and Iron-Blooded Orphans openings. I think we might need to start screaming louder we want more Gundam openings reactions. I really hope he gets to them one day 😂
@@solastro5595 I want him to react to all of them, but Unicorn is top of the list. I guess he's just doing a Luke and didn't realize he never actually got around to it 🤣
Definitely needs to react to more Gundam they always usually have good openings cuz they got that Bandai money
Fun Fact: the animators of Captain Harlock also animated the music videos of Daft Punks Discovery album.
One thing that could make stuff confusing in terms of when they released might be that not everything was released everywhere at the same time... It's possible that you caught one show or another being shown on a different channel... Like often they might get shown on a cable channel first, but then might run again on another channel... Or maybe if you weren't seriously watching them, you just didn't notice properly lol.
The way i screamed for every single one from 2000-2015 i really am a 2000s anime kid 🥹
everyone enjoys season 1 of sao, it´s the ending of the first arc and everything after the problem. and well asuna´s character went from girlboss to damsell in distress
There’s are parts of SAO season 1 that are very odd like the whole playing house with some AI little girl but yea otherwise it’s ok. Definitely the second season that made everyone lose interest. The subsequent seasons don’t really help either since Kirito stops growing as a character and the other characters don’t barely have any thoughts or goals that don’t involve Kirito. It just becomes “watch this perfect, child prodigy, pro gamer, programmer, engineer, kendo student, detective solve and fix everything while he collects more girls for his harem.” That’s where the belief that SAO is trash comes from and it’s hard to say they’re wrong when the show peaked at its beginning and has steadily gone downhill since. Even if some of the more recent seasons have been decent, it’s still hard to recover from what it was.
@@RoflCannon6 kirito is still not a real character, very sad cause the concept was good, but the editor or director of the show looked at the novel written by a 15 year old and said "yeah lets put this in a show without rouding out the edges"
As for the hate towards SAO it's mostly due to the latter half of Season 1 (the overall tone/setting takes a drastic shift, you'll know when you get to that point...in reality it's more of a season 2 and was Volume 2 or 3 for the light novels). Besides that the whole harem aspect (all the girls going for Kirito which you should've more or less seen the hint of by now) is also a turnoff for most viewers from what I can tell (and most of that stuff is from volumes 3 and or 4 (the episode with silica and investigation episode you uploaded last as of now are not from volume 1 and 2 but instead from volume 3 and 4...the writer wrote them after the first 2 main arcs had finished as side stories but the anime decided to put them into the anime in order of how the events occurred instead so these characters (like Silica) would've been introduced. In fact volume 1 of the light novel skips from where Kirito and Asuna fight the Kobold in episode 2 and picks up immediately around events you'll see in episode 10 or 11 if I'm right while all the episodes in between were originally volume 3/4 side stories).
Another reason why is because outside of Kirito the writing for all the other characters isn't really that great until one of the later arcs. The writing does get better by the 4th main arc (Alicization arc which would be season 3 and 4 for the anime and is imo the best arc as of now) and even the arc right before that was much better than arc 2 (last half of season 1).
Imo the anime's more or less decent. Not bad but also not really amazing in comparison to most others. Could probably attribute a lot of the early volume/arc's issues to the writer possibly not being too experienced of a writer at the time of writing those arcs (the only thing he wrote before/at the same time was Accel World if I'm right and SAO began as web novels the writer published on their own before he got a publishing deal from 2002 to 2008 before a publisher picked it up in 2009 so he may not have had any or at least many editors (or at least not a professional editor) helping out with cleaning things up/giving feedback. His writing gets better with each major arc (well besides arc 2 but that's also volume 2) as he writes more/gains more experience and feedback) All anime openings are all great though.
For me personally I hate the main characters. Mostly the girl but the guy isn't much better.
I think an anime should have better than a Gary Stu and Mary Sue as the main characters.
I'm probably the only one who liked the second half of the first season of season one since I liked
the fantasy setting and the fact that the girl wasn't around as much as the first half of the season.
I only finished the first season since I wasn't into dropping many shows back then. Never watched the
later seasons and I never will. It's one of my least favorite anime I've ever watched.

My recommendation for a sports anime not often mentioned by name here is "YOWAMUSHI Pedal".(YOWAMUSHI means wimp)
It is an anime about bicycle road racing and was quite popular in Japan.
It is the story of a boy who was a otaku and started road racing.
This list is kinda odd because it doesn’t include every year of anime. Anime has technically been around since the 1910s if you count recited paper puppet animation. Then you have the WWII propaganda era. Then Tezuka, the Godfather of Manga & Anime, revolutionized the medium with “Atomic Atom” or as you might know him, “Astro Boy”. He invented battle Shonen but with a more “Post-War” trauma coping theme to alleviate the effects of the war on all the fatherless & brotherless children suffering at the time. He created the “big eye anime style” based on Walt Disney’s American cartoons & American comic books like Superman that American soldiers brought into Japan when they were occupying the nation after the war.
To answer your question about the opinion of SAO. People have probably already answered this in someway... But for me I would say that the first half (until ep 15, if I remember correctly) of the first season is great, I really enjoyed it. Second half wasn't bad just not as good as the first half. But after that it just became worse with each episode (it has some good moments). The art style and animation is still good but it becomes somewhat redundant and repetitive. The stakes are never as high as the first half of the first season, so the excitement of the story never really reaches the same peak again. Personally there is also a bit to much "fan service" for my taste.
You should react to the German versions of some of the classical Openings, especially Dragon Ball, Digimon, and Pokemon. They are such bangers. They are from a time, when Anime and Cartoon Intros were still translated and had singers perform them. And for some reason, the German versions are so good. (And I don't say that just because of my nostalgia 😅 )
"Birdie Wing: Golf Girls' Story" has to be the greatest sports anime ever because it makes golf exciting!! 🤣
"Chihayafuru" isn't a sports anime strictly speaking, but it's up there for me too. Karuta is sports-ish that I'd put include it.
@@Sgt_SealCluber Karuta is definetly a sport, since making it a sport anime, it's just different type of sport, one that also requires a lot of strategy and thinking alongside physical abilities.
I always like to see how much the anime style has changed from the 70’s to how they are now
You should check the openings to the 1999 version of Hunter X Hunter
Please react to songs from the following anime: Metal Armor Dragonar, Heavy Metal L-Gaim, Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross, Dancouga, Marmalade Boy, Kimagure Orange Road, Yoroiden Samurai Troopers, Bubblegum Crisis, and Saint Seiya.
The reason why DBZ and Pokemon feel like they came out around the same time is because, English TV wise (especially the UK), they did. DBZ came to TV in the UK in 1998 on a comedy channel then Cartoon Network in 1999 while Pokemon came out on SKY One also in 1999.
AShita no joe is a huge classic for boxing anime. However I think Hajime no ippo or Yawara would be better choices.
You should watch Blue Lock, it's the most popular Football anime, and i'm not talking about American Football, i'm talking about actual Football, some people may call it Soccer
A bit late to the question but in terms of Sports- Anime I highly suggest Hajime no Ippo. It's about a student who learns about his talent for boxing and the journey toward the belt. It's really good and highly inspirational I think.
Chihayafuru would be a great pick for Sports anime, it's absolutely amazing, however, I don't think it's popular enough, unfortunetly.
Trust me. City Hunter, Cat's Eyes, Saint Seiya, Nadia and all were HUGE back then.
If you're looking for a sport anime, I recommend Eyeshield 21. Whilie the anime doesn't cover the whole story, it is one of my favorite manga
He said he heard and reacted to those Gundam songs, did I miss a reaction vid by any chance?
Not sure if you have already tried or not, but at 2020 that TV Asahi did a poll for top 100 anime song of all time, it will be a challenge for sure to review that many but I can provide the list for those (and of course, since this is from 2020 so also tons of bias with series from close to 2020):
1. Evangelion OP
2. Demon Slayer OP
3. Space Battleship Yamato OP
4. Digimon OP
5. Touch OP
6. Railgun OP
7. Attack on Titan OP
8. City Hunter ED
9. Haruhi Insert song (school band performance song)
10. Fire Force OP
11. Sazae-san OP (it is also the longest running anime series ever, 53 years and counting)
12. Sailor Moon OP
13. Uta no Prince-sama ED (I'm not sure of this one...but for fangirl of Japan I supposed...)

If it's a racing anime you're looking for, "Initial D" is a beloved classic. The 3d animation in the first stage is a bit dated, but other than that I'd say the show still holds up.
Mecha is massive prior to the 2000’s. Mobile Suit Gundam is a big franchise. It would be awesom if you watched all the openings
If you like Hunter x Hunter that much, you need to watch Yu Yu Hakusho; it's the same creator, but done before HxH.
Angel Beats OP is very popular, it is actually my alarm sound to wake up in the morning. For sports anime I would recommend Big Windup (baseball) or Prince of Tennis, I know they are not as popular, but I think are well done and fun to watch
Weeeelll, some of the hate on SAO is from the later parts, while a big chunk of the haters are like "if I wanted .hack// but shitty, I'd have asked for it...and this is it."
If the public wants to make Luke cry (again), then recommend him Air!
Erased is a good mystery anime. Very enjoyable.
You should totally do a reaction to the Lupin III Openings! It’s such an important anime franchise that has some fantastic themes.
Seconded. Part 2 alone has several openings. This video only showed the first
Lupin III part 2 opening. I love them all.
Cats eyes & City Hunter are from the same artist/author. There is even a joke in a late volume of Cat's eyes, when a male charater (cops) make a pose with his gun, and one of the female main character said "he look like Countryside Hunter" 😂😂
For 2006 it should’ve been Death Note rather than Code Geass. Code Geass is definitely a banger but DN definitely takes that spot.
nah, i still prefer code geass' opening. death note is a close second tho
"Does any other anime deserve that spot?" IDK. Danger, Danger from Shangri-La Frontier could be a contender...
Lol, omg if you get the chance you should react to the Cat's Eye ending. It's like crystallized 80s-ness and always makes me smile.
Day 106 of asking you to react to all the Maison Ikkoku openings and endings!
20:26 Yup, sure did know lol! That gave me a good laugh.
For Racing anime, gotta go with the classic - Initial D
Sports - Haikyuu! for more modern or Hajime no Ippo for one of the classics.
Really hope you get better soon!
I can actully give a bit if info on Cobra.... He is a space Pirate in hiding, he has an artifivial arm covering the cannon in his arm.... Honestly a really fun Anime, might be one of the first once I ever saw. Looking at the songs... I don´t think it´s the animes of the year, it´s purely the OP´s of the years..... Blue Bird.... Now there I have to just say that might be one of the best in existance.....NOW... SOA.... This is a controversie.... For it´s year... A great Anime.... one of the first VR animes we could say.... OP is one of the best ever made.... Why do people hate it? Hard to say, My best guess is that in the same year this anime got released, we had alot of light novels with the same subject, and ofcourse we have to go with the Americans hating new things they didn´t make..... that can be a big one....
Sports anime, huh? You should take one from every category, since there are so many!
Like Initial D for car racing.
Yowamushi Pedal for bike racing.
Haikyuu for volleyball.
Slam Dunk for basketball.
Yuri on Ice for ice skating.
Hajime no Ippo for boxing .
Ping Pong the animation for ping üong .
Ballroom e Youkoso for dancing competition.
Ao Ashi for soccer.
Hoshi no Sora for badminton.
Prince of Tennis for tennis.
Prince of Stride for parkour running.
Running with the wind for running.
Tsurune for archery.
Cross Game for baseball.
Bakuten for gymnastic.
Kabaddi for kabaddi.
Free for swimming (at least I can't think of another anime in that regard)
Birdie Wing for not very realistic but hella fun golf.
Aoharu Kinkanyuu for survival shooter games (tag?).
Sk8 the infinity for skating.
Capeta for ... go cart racing.
You forgot Eyeshield 21 for american football !
SAO, as a show, may be controversial. But there is one thing that nobody can disagree with, and that is that all of its music is FIRE.
EDIT: For anyone who hasn't checked out Ling Tosite Sigure as a band, I HIGHLY recommend doing so.
they made so many mecha animes in that era, usually sponsored by companies making toy. so they started as some kind of advertisement with story I guess?
For racing anime either Initial D or Wangan Midnight
overtake is a recent racing anime and is very underrated, very good option too
Capeta too if you're into F1. Legit racing technique explanation
The increase in visual quality for anime when the 80s started is staggering.
my favourite Racing anime is Initial D
and that anime is on 6th place in my top 10 fav anime. Its really fun to watch and has AMAZING songs.
11:27 there's a reason, why One Piece, Naruto and Bleach are called Big3...
Also their authors all mention Dragonball as one of inspirations for their work...
There are a ton of good openings in here and I'm glad you are learning more history.
Attempt 28 Day 46 of asking for reaction to the Dot Hack Sign openings and Endings/ DOt HAck Franchise (intermixed series of anime and games)
Also yes it is the last 2/3 of season 1 that a large number of people really really HATE. However, the fact you entered in with that impression likely influences your reception to some degree. If you start out watching it expecting something between flawed and "the worst thing ever" then you are more likely to be pleasantly surpised, whereas people who entered in expecting something really exceptional are more likely to be deeply disappointed.
MUST REACT CLASSICS: 1. Yu Yu Hakusho 2. Slam Dunk 3. Inu-Yasha
All openings and endings and if you want to watch the animes even better, they are much more better imo than 90% of the new animes today
YES! I wanted you to react to timeline of anime. I know you will forget years in about 5 minutes but its still great. I did watch original Kuma video before and i left a comment if it is possible to make top 5 openings of those years. What was competing for top spot is very interesting.
There is so many Bangers in this Video. Is also really interesting, because we can see and Hear, how those opening changed visually and by the type of Music Genre which dominated in Japand during those 50 years. I'm a bit sadge that Specialz didn't catch up on this video, but thats Understandable - Yoasobi song from Oshi No Ko was a FUCKING BANGER too
I love it when people remember Angel Beats! exists. It's peak.
Ah yes, "Air"...The anime I remember barely anything about the actual plot, besides that one ending scene that was absolutely defestating in how depressing it was xD
I would seriously love to see you do a reaction to all, or at least a bunch of Gundam OP's. I have a playlist I made on my old channel of all the series openings I can send your way, or I can curate a smaller list of some of the more popular OP's if you'd prefer. Just let me know.
Just finished listening to the rezero podcast. And now hearing you say you didn’t understand the hate boy I’d love to hear you and Remington calmly (or not so calmly) debate that one out. The sword art episodes of the podcast are straight up pure hilarity
Im always so confused because i never see renai circulation from bakemonogatari in any "most popular anime openings" i fucking love that song so much and i always thought that everyone knew that song
What other Gundam have you reacted to other than Witch of Mercury and Iron blood Orphans?🤔
Im sorry but the candy candy op was such a throwback for me, because i used to watch it with my mom when i was little, like around 2010 ish since she had some cds of that show. Did not realize it was that popular though lol
