I've had my Friedman runt 20 head & 2 of the 1x12 cabinets for over a year. The clean Chanel is perfect for Fenderish tones and od Channel is a bit on Marshall side. What a great amp for everything.
Can you connect both cabinets simultaneously with the runt 20?
@@TMVowns yes! But I now have a JJ head and a Runt head and play in stereo. The runt sounded great with both cabinets, way better than one. The JJ is the runt on steroids
Didn’t demo the cab simulated output,so this demo is only half done,that’s one of the selling points of this amp,

Great demo Tom but I believe there is one correction to be made: amp is not hand-wired but has PCB board which is why it's at that price point for Friedman. So I believe both Runt 20 and 50 are PCB-based. Other models are hand-wired. Here's one article that mentions the custom PCB plus I have seen interviews of Dave Friedman talk about the Runt series as having PCB boards and that's why they are at his entry-level price points (well for a boutique amp I guess).
All of the Friedman amps except the PT20 are built on PCBs. The PCBs for the other amps except the Runt have more off board wiring. You're paying extra for more wire and the extra time it takes to install said wire.
Dave Friedman got back to me, said the Runt 20 is a PC board.
@@SmokinBuddha It is hand wired it's not point to point, that is the difference. An amp can be hand wired and have a PCB . Everyone confuses hand wired with point to point, that's not what hand wired means. Sorry
Dave has talked openly about why PCB is better. Less distance between electrical components, more consistency in the builds from amp-to-amp. Even his high$$ Plexi head is PCB.
Most Friedman amps utilize PCB now. They are very robust and reasonably easy to work on. Nothing wrong at all here
I own a runt 20 and clean channel isn't affected by the presence knob or the EQ. Only volume and 3 way bright switch. Love my combo and the xlr direct out into my Focusrite sounds beautiful for recording. Happy I made the purchase. Ty for the video!

Just a lovely sounding amp!
The EQ has no effect on the clean channel. You just get the 3 position bright switch, volume and the master presence to dial in your clean tone (and it is so good you won't want to tweak anyways). It is a PCB based amp, but you won't notice that from just listening.

Perfect demo! But then you said 'surprisingly affordable' and I looked up some prices... haha. Unfortunately, $1600 - $2500 for a 20 watt head isn't affordable in my universe. :)

Definitely. I'm not exactly saying that guitar playing is a rich man's hobby but you do hear quite a few people, who have obviously done pretty well for themselves, talking casually about stuffing their garage with £££s worth of gear and you wonder if some realise that's not actually an option for most people. I suppose it's just about keeping perspective.
I drank the Friedman coolaid a long time ago.
In comparison to the Morgan MVP23 has does this amp stand?
Can the clean channel stay clean at stage volume with low-medium pickups? Doesn't seem to have any headroom here.

Nice demo, I think these come with a switching floor button. This is key for me to buy. I also think it is a 2 channel. I need to do more research. The 20 wat JJ is interesting as well.
Yeah only Boost is not FS switchable which is pitty. Boist is great function and I do not understand why I cant to use it during performance??? Sound vice its so nice and mainly clean sound is terrefic.
Great demo Love the sound of this amp. Im more of a metal / classic thrash guy can this amp cover that kind of sound fairly saturated slightly scooped?
Not on its own per say... but you can push it... and it comes close.
I'd say this amp has more than enough balls to do thrash. If you remember, most classic thrash was recorded on amps with much less gain/compression than this. If you hit your settings right, and maybe hit it with a MaxonOD808 or the like, it will saturate really well. This is of course assuming your in a situation to have the volume cranked. Otherwise it won't compress enough.
I played on the 50 watt today pushing it with a JHS Bonsai from Charvel San Dimas. Was able to get some great metal tones out of it.

“The EQ controls have a lot more power on the drive section”. Erm they have zero power on the clean channel because they are 100 percent disengaged. For clean tone there is a 3-way switch and that’s it. You are still a legato master and I forgive you on that count alone.

No this is not hand wired which is why the price is a bit lower.
Yes PT-20 is hand wired. Runt are not. Some aren’t stating facts on here
Can someone please take some of the post-compression off this recording. It's creating a ducking effect that does a disservice to how tight and percussive this amp sounds. Otherwise great demo.
Was nearly put off as it seems to be sold as a high gain meister, not so, me like.
