Yeah, I've been wanting/needing a new amp for awhile now. I've been on the fence over a Suhr Badger18 and Dave's PT-20. I go back and forth on which I want, but I'm pretty sure I'm gonna go with the Wildwood Mod Pink Taco. Dave's the man.
The Pink Tacos are handwired and therefore higher priced. I believe the gain staging is similar between the two. Try em out for yourself. The newer PT's also have options (3 saturation settings) the older version didn't have. Wildwood sells a version with two additional mods.
Have the Runt 20 head , new to me...been running into a 1x12 with V30 8ohm speaker and eq pedal in the loop....middle turned down on head and classic V shape on pedal , gain 3/4 - all the way....more modern tone....pedal off back to 70's - 80's rock
so is it possible to play a gigg and rehearse with the 20 watt and a 2x12? I'm just doing covers at the moment. mostly top 40/dance stuff along with a few random 80s stuff thrown in the mix. I'm mostly looking, because i dont really need 50 watts and i want something thats small and easy to carry around.
I had the same question. I went with the Runt for the extra channel/flexibility. I was NOT disappointed with the choice! I will probably get a Mini DS at some point in the future. I am sold on Friedman.
+Larry Tate to me the tone its not there, its not the same as with the handwired models. There is a huge price difference and thats obviously coming from somewhere
+Joaquin lol I think that's just how Dave is. Not a very salesy guy. Not sure we would've gotten much info from this video if Mitch hadn't been there kinda guiding it and asking questions.
Just my kind of tone. I've been a fan of Friedman amps for a long time and the Runt is really in the realm of tone I prefere. Excellent.
Sounds good!
Looks like Dave and Pete Thorn go to the same barber.
Maybe Pete cut his hair
I'm just glad Pete Thorn got a damn haircut LOL
Elliot Grey I just said the same dam thing to myself.
And they both need a new one.
Runt 50 head is a beast!

Are the PT 20s priced higher than the runts? Which have more gain?

The Runt 20 is really loud! No problem for gigging 👍🏻👍🏻
Yes it is....I do top40 pop/rock every weekend with a Fender 22w amp. Plenty of power. In bigger venues, you just put a mic on it for front of house.
OK Sweetwater what's the price of the 50watt head? Thank you.
Hey Mike! You can find product information here: www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Runt50Combo!
The Runt 20 or the Mini DS?
to me the tone is what's important ultimately, and I think the runts sound generic. Mini DS all the way

i imagine even at 20 watts, the runt is super loud for home use
Can these do modern metal if you boost with an OD pedal?
Get yourself a Friedman BE-OD Pedal, and transform almost any amp into a fire breathing metal machine!
Make a runt 100 w model!!!!
Im a huge fan of Dave's amps. He is a genious, but im not feeling these runts. Im still a mini ds guy, or if i ever win the lottery a JJ
I agree
What don't u care for about the runts? Just curious?

Not to mention that he does not seem even slightly enthusiastic about them.

too much cash for printed circuit boards imo
These are very well built printed circuit boards not like the thin junk a lot of amps at lower price points have.
